In Harvard essay, young Michelle Obama argued for race-based faculty hiring

During her third and final year at Harvard Law School, first lady Michelle Obama — then named Michelle Robinson — penned an article for the newsletter of Harvard’s Black Law Students Association (BLSA), arguing that Harvard and its students were perpetuating “racist and sexist stereotypes” by not intentionally hiring minority and female law professors on the basis of their sex or skin color.

The 1988 essay, titled “Minority and Women Law Professors: A Comparison of Teaching Styles,” ran in a special edition of the BLSA Memo. The future first lady justified her demands for more black and female law school faculty by attacking the “traditional model,” in which law students were educated through the Socratic method.

She also opposed the traditional meritocratic hiring principle, where professors with better legal pedigrees were more often hired, arguing that it limited the success of women and blacks.

Much of Black America embraces so-called liberation theology - the notion that America is a nation defined by the struggle between blacks and whites, commonly framed in Marxist paradigms. In their worldview, it is impossible for blacks to be racist, as illustrated by the following quote from James H. Cone:

"It is important to make a further distinction here among black hatred, black racism, and Black Power. Black hatred is the black man's strong aversion to white society. No black man living in white America can escape it...But the charge of black racism cannot be reconciled with the facts. While it is true that blacks do hate whites, black hatred is not racism. Racism, according to Webster, is 'the assumption that psychocultural traits and capacities are determined by biological race and that races differ decisively from one another, which is usually coupled with a belief in the inherent superiority of a particular race and its rights to dominance over others.' Where are the examples among blacks in which they sought to assert their right to dominance over others because of a belief in black superiority?...Black Power is an affirmation of the humanity of blacks in spite of white racism. It says that only blacks really know the extent of white oppression, and thus only blacks are prepared to risk all to be free." [Black Theology and Black Power, p. 14-16]

An excellent example of how Harvard’s standards have dropped. Used to be quite a good school.

Probably still is in science...but beyond that, we’re talking Yugo quality.

And this surprises us.... why???

> She also opposed the traditional meritocratic hiring principle, where professors with better legal pedigrees were more often hired, arguing that it limited the success of women and blacks.

She, and others like her, don't see the inherent racism and sexism of their position. They have their position upside-down.

She knows that she, personally, cannot compete based on ability, and so she assumes that other women and blacks are in the same position. Funny, people like Phyllis Schlafly, Margaret Thatcher, Thomas Sowell and so on didn’t need preferences to outdo just about everyone else ... but Michelle’s (accurate) feelings of inferiority are more important than the facts.

“Much of Black America embraces so-called liberation theology - “

I propose this so-called liberation theology has nothing whatsoever to do with ‘liberation’. It is at best an ideology; it is definitely NOT theology!

I had to look it up ...

The Socratic method (also known as method of elenchus, elenctic method, Socratic irony, or Socratic debate), named after the classical Greek philosopher Socrates, is a form of inquiry and debate between individuals with opposing viewpoints based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to illuminate ideas.

It is a dialectical method, often involving an oppositional discussion in which the defense of one point of view is pitted against the defense of another; one participant may lead another to contradict himself in some way, thus strengthening the inquirer's own point.

The Socratic method is a negative method of hypothesis elimination, in that better hypotheses are found by steadily identifying and eliminating those that lead to contradictions. The Socratic method searches for general, commonly held truths that shape opinion, and scrutinizes them to determine their consistency with other beliefs. The basic form is a series of questions formulated as tests of logic and fact intended to help a person or group discover their beliefs about some topic, exploring the definitions or logoi (singular logos), seeking to characterize the general characteristics shared by various particular instances. The extent to which this method is employed to bring out definitions implicit in the interlocutors' beliefs, or to help them further their understanding, is called the method of maieutics. Aristotle attributed to Socrates the discovery of the method of definition and induction, which he regarded as the essence of the scientific method.

just askin' (for the FR lawyers out there)..Isn't there a std. law book (&/ series of book volumes)
called, Black's Law; nothing racist about it or IS IT a separate law publication supported by
Harvard University for this (IMHO) racist educational organization? ...
"equal rights for me; not for thee" is their stated mindset.

Yes we can attribute it to Marx and Cone. But to sum it up, they don’t believe in working for and earning something. They think that everyone has equal intelligence and equal drive so everyone should get the same grades in school, everyone should get the same pay (except the elites who run things).
Btw Marx never worked a day in his life, Engels who was born into money helped support Marx.

Considering what comes out of Harvard these days, Michelle had a legitimate point. Why should quality be the standard? If Harvard still had quality, it wasn’t showing up in the elites getting churned out.

There’s a Black’s Law Dictionary — great publication, but as far as I know, it’s only published in a single volume. It’s not a treatise or series.

As with all race card playing, substitute another race and there would be riots: "first lady Laura Bush - then named Laura Lane Welch - penned an article for the newsletter of Southern Methodist University's White Library Students Association (WLSA), arguing that SMU and its sutdents were perpetuating "racist and sexit stereotype" by not intentionally hiring minority and female library professors on the basis of their sex or skin color."

Well, Mrs. Robinson why don’t you answer this. What happens when you hire a black and they can’t cut the mustard. Do you just keep the inferior worker on the job to have goodie feelings about hiring an OF COLOR PERSON or do man up and tell them the real truth so maybe they will improve in the future. I know what you and jessie would do. And it’s one of the main problems why these people don’t improve.
