Same-Sex Couple Invites Chick-fil-A CEO To Dinner
ABC News ^ | August 2, 2012 | Amy Bingham

After hundreds of thousands of people ate dinner at his restaurants on Wednesday for Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, one Georgia family, a same-sex couple and their two daughters, has invited Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy to have dinner at their house.

But the dinner invitation from Marci Alt and wife Marlysa, who live near Chick-fil-A’s Atlanta headquarters, is no paltry piece of paper, it is backed by an online petition sponsored by Change.org, an online organizing platforms for activists, and GLAAD, a gay rights advocacy group.

“I hope Mr. Cathy will join my family for dinner, where we can share a respectful dialogue about our faith, work and families here in Georgia,” Alt said in a statement. “It’s important that Mr. Cathy meet the people his company is donating millions to stand against.”

“I’ll even make chicken,” Alt added.

That being said, I agree with your assessment, Mr. Cathy should very politely decline.

I agree.I'd send a letter saying "on the advice of my physician,I'm at increased risk of infection due to ongoing chemotherapy and, therefore should not risk contracting any of the exotic infections to which I might be exposed in your home".

If the cook of this “household” is a gourmet chef like Bill Ayers, I’d RUN as far as possible from this invite.

Politely decline and send them some coupons for half off a meal at one of his places. Also send some of those toys that they give the kids to the kids.

Some Canaanites invite God’s people to sup with them and share food sacrificed to their idols.

Sorry but no, don’t think so.

Next thing you know, he’ll be asked to dine with tax collectors.

He should go and show his graciousness

Decline politely, as it’s pointless. Nothing will change a Christian’s position on believing homosexuality is wrong. We don’t have that option. It’s not a matter of persuading Mr. Cathy to change HIS mind, they would have to change GOD’S mind.

Interesting...what about changing the couple's mind about what Christians really believe? Sadly, in this case it is obviously a political ambush, but as a Christian with an apologist bent, I would love to visit a same sex couple who thought of as Christians as being hateful and intolerant. If they were sincere in wanting to reach out and teach me, I think a little patience and tact might open them up to a teachable moment.

I’d send a form letter response. Let them know they aren’t that important. For real fun, send them coupons good for Dad on Father’s Day.

"Maybe then they’ll see that someone can disagree with them and not be filled with hate."

Well - that is a misconception waiting to be proven patently false (90 - 99% chance). I'm QUITE sure the gay couple do not plan to have a two sided discussion about gay marriage, nor are they likely to be open minded about others who might disagree with them on moral principal.

This is a prime example of a Liberal Mentality masquerading as open debate when it has no possibility of changing anyone's mind of the subject and the only principal is to look righteous and superior by being "SMUG" and nothing more.

St Paul addressed that point...think he said not to eat the food sacrificed to idols if the hosts makes a big deal of it or if it bothers your conscious. But not to worry about it if the host does not make a big deal about it and you are secure in your knowledge that idols are nothing.

But in this case its an ambush. If he dare go he should be both as shrewd as a wolf yet innocent as a dove. He need not eat any food sacrificed to idols there in any case.

Unfortunately, I don't see any good coming of such a meeting. How can one adequately prepare for the spin-machine that could, and likely would, be set free following such a meeting. Call a beer-summit, have the press lumped together a respectable 100 yards or so from the table, talk only into your hand or with your back to the camera, no microphones, contractual stifling, etc, etc, etc? ... Too much effort for too little gain. A polite decline would be my recommendation.

Gee, I wish ABC News would arrange for national attention and exposure for my dinner invitations, including a news story.

They're just SO helpful.

THe UPSIDE to all of this type of activity is that it is giving CHICK-FIL-A hundreds of millions of dollars in free advertising... and GREATLY EXPANDING its already huge customer base.

It is true. "The Lord works in mysterious ways"

Hate to be so nitpicky, but... I hope the author is mistaken about the “two daughters.” The child holding the bottle is most certainly dressed as a boy would be dressed.

I worked in interior design and catering in Atlanta in the 80’s and 90’s. The homosexuals I knew, and I knew many, were anything but gay. Their relationships were plagued with infidelity, drug and alcohol abuse, and domestic abuse. I would call them Sad not Gay.
Oh and I met Mr Truett Cathy, we did some design work for him. He is a lovely kind Christian gentleman.
