Democrats Move to Include Gay Marriage in Party Platform
New York Times ^ | 7/30/12 | Jeremy W. Peters and Michael D. Shear

Democrats moved to make same-sex marriage a part of their party platform, placing language that would declare a right for gay men and lesbians to marry on track for approval by the party’s leadership.

Party officials met over the weekend in Minneapolis and approved the first step in the platform-amending process. In two weeks, the entire platform committee will vote on the matter at a meeting scheduled in Detroit. Then, if approved as expected, it would move on to convention delegates in Charlotte, N.C., for final approval in September.

According to Democrats who were briefed on the vote in Minneapolis, there was no objection when the issue came up. Though the language that was voted on still could be revised, party officials do not anticipate any major obstacles going forward.

The platform language approved over the weekend also included a condemnation of the Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits the federal government from recognizing legal same-sex marriages.

The democrats have been using the murder of alive unborn children as an empowerment scheme for decades now. Why not add sexual degeneracy to their planks? Yeah, the party of murder and sexual degeneracy! And look how many of our fellow Americans vote for this sickness! What’s the black pregnancy abortion rate/murder rate now?

Well, I always knew the 'Rat party was sick and getting sicker, and this is is merely the latest indication of it.

Hard to believe that not one person in that assembly that drew up the suggestions for the platform raised any objection. You would think someone among these politicos might have taken notice of the fact that gay marriage propositions have failed in every state they've been put up to a vote. So it can't be very popular with the general electorate.

Yes, there's a sense of Schadenfreude here that the 'Rats will be inflicting unnecessary wounds on themselves come November.

Good analysis. That’s exactly what will happen, and the Dems wouldn’t have done this without a lot of analysis of possible outcomes.

This secures the support of Hollywood and the chattering classes, who bring the dems their big bucks. The rest of Obama’s fans may vote against the actual issue if they can, but it’s not going to affect their support for Obama or any Dem candidate.

Don’t listen to the “pragmatists,” Dems. Stick to your principles, remain upright. The American people will accept it once it’s been put to them and they realize how much they like it. All it will take is a little lubrication and a bit of pushing.

Once they get into the rhythm of it, the Democratic Leadership can then reach around to help the American people enjoy the experience with gentle stroking;-)

I don’t think you’re wrong. They are timidly in support of him. You’ll still see them poke him often, but if he wins they’re not in that bad of shape. This is Romney after all.

I think they see the handwriting on the wall concerning Obama, and see Romney as someone they can deal with.

As some of us were saying earlier this year, the Democrats couldn’t lose with Romney vs Obama.

Romney will be better situated to get some things they want through. He won’t betray us every time, but he will sell us out plenty enough, and the Democrats know it.

When the Democrats hold power, they pass what they want. When the Republicans hold power, they pass more of it.

We’re getting tag teamed, and until folks wake up, it will continue.

Hope all is going good for you. Nice to see your post.

Of course they are. Gays are 1 % of the population or less but they make it seem more.

A gay marriage plank? why not a plank that supports NAMBLA, too?

I’m surprised the Dems support private sodomy. I thought the government hated competition.
