I have watched Fox News since 1998 and have seen alot of ups and downs with Bill O'Reilly, but tonight's talking points memo of "The Factor" were so full of falsehoods and misconceptions that I need the banglist gang to write in to this pinhead.
O'Reilly's talking points was on the 2nd Amendment, Guns, and Murder. He generally made some good points on the purpose of the 2nd Amendment and the fact that gun control doesn't work. However he went WAY off the reservation and bought into the liberal journalist LIES of the misconceptions between legal, semi-automatic firearms, and their fully automatic, highly regulated (and even restricted) military counterparts.
Here are his quotes:
1) "Anyone who sells a heavy weapon or ammunition should be compelled to report the sale to the FBI".
This is completely false. First there is no such thing as a "heavy weapon" reporting criteria. Every Federal Firearm License (FFL) holder must conduct a FBI NICS check on all transactions of Title 1 firearms.
2) "Some gun dealers do background checks, but NOBODY reports the sale of heavy weapons like the AK-47, to the feds".
Another completely false statement. ALL gun dealers are required to do background checks via the FBI's NICS system. Only those with concealed firearms permits, or doing an NFA transfer don't get the call (because they have already been "checked out"). If the firearms is a Title 2 firearm under the National Firearms Act of 1934 (machinegun, suppressor (aka silencer), destructive device, short barrel shotgun, short barrel rifle, or Any Other Weapon (AOW)) then the purchaser has to pay a $5 or $200 transfer tax, submit complete, perfect ATF forms, fingerprints, pictures, and get their local law enforcement officer to sign off. After the administrative prerequisites are met, the ATF does a background check and will issue a tax stamp and list the legal registered user in their NFA database after about 6-8 months.
3) "Terrorists could move in here and buy bazookas and the FBI doesn't know about it"
My wife and I about fell out of our chair when he said this....yes, he said it! The statement is so ignorant and emotional that I am suprised that it made it past his staff, whom is usually good at research.
As you can see, Bill is bluring the line between true military assault rifles, and their civilian, semi-automatic clones...a very clever and effective, yet dishonest tactic perpetrated by anti-gun forces. I am starting to think that the liberals may not ban semi-autos with another "Assault Weapon Ban 2", but something more sinister such as re-defining firearms into the NFA and reclassifying all firearms as "destructive devices" and subject to all the NFA red tape.
There is precident for this: Streetsweeper and USAS-16 shotguns were reclassified in the past and they are now contraband unless you went through the Form 4 process and transfer taxes paid to ATF.
Anyways....I'm trying to formulate a pithy response without losing my temper, tact, or candor.
I’d rather watch obama lie to me than than blowhard. I haven’t watched him since 2002. Wish to hell he would go off the air.
I don’t watch Billoviator O’Reilly anymore.
Bill O’Reilly wouldn’t know a “heavy weapon” if one jumped up and bit him on the ass.
Watching the freak, my wife went from drop jaw disbelief, to near screaming at the TV. She is normally level headed and cool, (much more so than I) but when he was on his stupid rant, have seldom seen her become so agitated.
I began to despise “Shep” and Fox News during their Columbine coverage. FOX is pro Brotherhood now, and definitely not conservative. 2nd Ammendment? What’s that???

#1 is Ted Baxter sharing his wise solution, how it ought to be. Registration for “heavy weapons”(whatever that is), a federal list.
#2 is Baxter saying (incorrectly) that even though some dealers do background checks, no one puts the “heavy stuff” on his proposed federal registration list.
#3 is Baxter explaining why his proposed solution is such a great idea.
See? Got a problem and can't figure out how to solve it? Just ask Ted Baxter! He can come up with right off the top of his head! Because he is just looking out for the (dumbass) folks!
Still, there is so much wrong with all that, where to begun?
Bill “Ted Baxter” O’Reilly strikes again!
I listened to O’Reilly once, maybe 10 years ago, and thought he was a bit of a putz.
While we all tend to bring up self defense when discussing the 2nd Amendment, it is really for our defense against an oppressive government, and that requires firepower, the very firearms the fruitcakes want to take away from us.
I was stunned at the magnitude and number of things he said that were flat out false. I think the SOB was drunk or on drugs to tell you the truth. He did not look or act at all like he usually does during talking points.
You’ve covered most of the falsehoods, but the thing that jumped out at me was the statement that automatic weapons sales are not reported to the Feds. In point of fact, all legal automatic weapons transfers involve a very lengthy Federal transfer process involving fingerprints and FBI background checks. I should know. I legally own 3 fully automatic firearms.
Also, I think it truly bizarre to single out AK-47s as being “heavy” weapons. In point of fact, there are a hell of a lot of other rifles out there that shoot much higher powered cartridges. Hell, an AK is barely legal to hunt with its round is so low-powered.
Also, the bazooka remark was insane. There’s no way to buy bazookas in this country legally or even illegally for that matter.
I’m starting to wonder if his masters MADE him read this garbage and that’s why he was drunk or drugged, namely because he knew he was reading a pack of lies.
I DVR "Red Eye" every night, and then watch it as I get ready for work in the mornings. If there's time left, I'll watch commercials, interrupted by a few short segments of "Fox & Friends," in particular at 7:00am CT on Thursdays, to catch Michelle Malkin. And I'll watch the show afterwards for a few minutes, to catch Stuart Varney.
If not for Bob Beckel, I'd DVR "The Five" and watch it, but not with that a$$-hat.
But that's really about it for FNC any more. I've replaced BoR with Neil Cavuto on Fox Business @ 7:00pm.

I'd LOVE a "heavy weapon," but I don't think my Kia could tow a Howitzer.

“I have always felt that OReilly was a closet liberal and I totally believe he voted for Obama.”
I always thought he was openly liberal, simply trying to mask it as libertarianism.
Dittos!
Please.....this is misleading to the nth degree. First, watching or not watching a show has ZILCH effect on national or area ratings if you are not a pre-selected household chosen by a ratings company who provides you with an electronic box or a "diary" form to record your viewing habits for a prescribed period of time.
Second, studies show that written letters and faxes right to the offices garner MORE attention from the addressees than emails and phone calls.
So, drop a line to O'Reilly, keep it brief, polite and to the point. I like to tinge mine to him with a little acerbic but veiled sarcasm...I always prefer the stiletto to the sledgehammer. He's such a FUN target!
Nobody writes letters any more....so you know YOURS will be opened and read!
