A young couple who'd recently moved from New Mexico and were attending the Aurora, Colo., midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" with their children said they had planned to sit in the front row by the exit in which a gunman entered and allegedly killed at least 12 people.
"Where the gunman came in, we were going to sit right there," Jamie Rohrs, 25, told ABC News today. "God was definitely with us and watching over us."
Rohrs said that before the movie started, he and his fiancee, Patricia Legarreta, also 25, opted for seats in the second-floor balcony. Rohrs held their 4-month-old son, Ethan, while Legarreta sat next to her 4-year-old daughter, Azeria, who was asleep with her head in her mother's lap.
Fifteen minutes into the movie, Legarreta said, someone walked into the theater from the exit and threw something. Police now allege that James Holmes, 24, burst into the movie house and started shooting patrons, killing at least 12 and injuring at least 50.

"I'm just disoriented after I put him down," Rohrs said. "I'm just waiting for me to hit the ground and fall down dead. You could see the gunfire."
He said he wondered where Ethan was but realized he could not go back to get him. Rohrs finally jumped over the balcony and ended up outside.
"My son's still in there," he told ABC News. "My girlfriend is still in there. I'm out here. Who leaves their child there?"
He said Legarreta called him from another phone and he drove back to the theater. They were eventually taken to the hospital and released.
In an interview with ABC News, Legaretta said she just ran as fast as she could with the baby and her daughter when the gunshots stopped.

Bring in a bad-ass Marine to smack him around and teach him how to be a real man.
Our society has gone to hell. The chickens have come home to roost. The social norms that liberals have been pushing on us for over half a century now are destroying the very fiber of our existence.
what a string of 'non-sequitors' ("it doesn't follow")
Who did he put down? How did he get out- when he "could not go back in to get him"? Did he just leave his child and run?
He jumped over the balcony AFTER he realized he couldn't go back in to get him? This author needs to go back to 'journalism' school.
Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Costanza runs over old ladies and children and heads for the exits. Then tells everyone he’s really a hero.
Perhaps he was racing home to see if the life insurance policy on his gf and kids was double indemnity for death by slaughter.
This one sentence makes it sound like he was worried the baby crying would attract the attention of the gunman, so he left the baby and ran away.
At least the story isn't about him suffocating the baby to keep it quiet so the gunman doesn't find him.

Exactly! What a coward.
She needs to seriously consider an upgrade. POS is much too kind, I know where he’s destined to spend eternity!
Panic can make people do some really stupid things. One has to practice over coming panic. One has to be able to recognize it and then over come it. Some people are better then others at fighting panic. This man obviously gave into his panic. Best thing to do when you feel panic coming on is to do nothing, try to have a plan in your head as to how to deal with a panic attack. These days I always check where the exits are and where the closest thing to a weapon is. lol.
“I know where hes destined to spend eternity!”
Let me guess...in a crowded theater watching Batman movies and ducking, dodging real bullets...a 24/7/365/forever experience...and with flames lapping at the walls of the theater and the stench of burning sulfur filling it...
“These days I always check where the exits are and where the closest thing to a weapon is.”
The closest thing to a weapon will be one on my person- and I always watch the exits myself. As far as giving in to panic, well, it helps to have a sense of duty as a man- you protect your women and children, feminist notions of equality be damned. My perception of this guy is that he has no such sense of duty.
Colorado resident liberals. If the kids don’t make it, it’s just another abortion.
True. There really are precious few positive role models for boys today at least as presented in popular culture. The big problem with the left is not that changes don't need to be made, but rather that they always go too far. In this case, instead of giving us positive roles models for both men and women, they want to play against the stereotypes of the past by predominantly portraying (straight) men as stupid, cowardly, or else evil, and women as smarter, braver, more kindhearted. But of course boys growing up aren't aware that much of what they're exposed to is the result of a backlash, they only see it as this is the way guys are and we just can't expect ourselves to be any different.
Scary, isn’t it?
Several years ago, when one of my sons was in a college course the students had to do one of those stupid “get-acquainted” exercises in a class. When my youngest son, 20 — and unmarried — at the time, introduced himself to his class partner, she was shocked to learn that he had no children somewhere.
