James Madison: The subversion of the very foundations of limited government in America
TomHoefling.com ^ | 1792 | James Madison

Posted on 07/06/2012 4:08:32 PM PDT by EternalVigilance

"If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare, and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare, they may take the care of religion into their own hands; they may appoint teachers in every State, county and parish and pay them out of their public treasury; they may take into their own hands the education of children, establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision of the poor; they may undertake the regulation of all roads other than post-roads; in short, every thing, from the highest object of state legislation down to the most minute object of police, would be thrown under the power of Congress. Were the power of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for, it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature of the limited Government established by the people of America."

-- James Madison, Letter to Edmund Pendleton, 1792

I’m just quoting from an interesting article! I really don’t know if the law could be re-challenged on another reason.

It is a shame as we watch what they obtained for us to be SQUANDERED as you say. I want to cry for the America that was.

The America that those men fought for and penned with their brilliance to keep up from ALL HARM. Yet, here we are, does anyone recognize anything those men wrote down anymore?

They gave their LIVES and literally their FORTUNES for this cause, for us, my family was there. The America I see today is not worthy of what they did, so sad.

I say keep these Historical documents coming DAILY to FR, there are so many who have not learned these things in school (by design), we who love history never tire of it. Eventually they might ignite the spark and give us the clue on how to take back the America these men began.

They gave their LIVES and literally their FORTUNES for this cause, for us, my family was there. The America I see today is not worthy of what they did, so sad.

Have the republicans lost their minds? didn’t they get the message during the 2010 elections?

Yes, and no.

It has been no secret that the Republican Party has always had room on the bus for Conservatives--right next to the drive shaft.

Hey Annie, you forgot to erase the last paragraph after you copied and pasted to above. Heck, our founders didn’t even have copy and paste and they made perfect documents. Get a clue girl. lol

As far as SCOTUS is concerned, it would be like asking for a do-over after you've lost the championship game.

Since Roberts rewrote the law making it into a tax, it would seem like it could be argued that it should have originated in the House... but alas, I’m not a lawyer. Maybe the author, Tad MacKie knows more about this than I do.

Thank you.

I guess that's the reason I wasn't able to find it.

Upon careful consideration, I have decided that the author is right.

We must get this to Judge Roberts, immediately! When he sees it, he's going to slap his forehead and say, 'Of course!! How did we all overlook this? Let's try 'er again!'

The tax origination issue is discussed in the link that follows. That avenue appears closed. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2903350/replies?c=17

Mea culpa. I should have ran it down before grabbing it and running with it. I was pretty busy yesterday, but that’s really no excuse. It’s so easy these days to check things out. Just drop a piece of the text into books.google.com and presto.

“have the Republicans lost their minds? Didn’t they get the message during the 2010 election?”

Yes they did get the message and they didn’t like it. Since then they’ve done everything possible to snuff out the tea party and have marginalized conservatives with great success. They are confident when presented with a choice between pure Marxism and big government socialism, the conservative base will choose the lesser of two evils.

Look at the behavior of Boehner since the 2010 election. Conservatives demanding change made his speakership possible, yet he refuses to use the institutional powers of the House to exert any control over the budget, repeal Obamacare, or limit the deficit. McConnell will do the same if he becomes Senate Majority Leader. Just like Hastert and Frist the last time Republicans controlled both Houses.

The Republican Party today is the crony capitalism socialist party. The Democrats are redistributionist communists. Conservatives believing in small government, property rights, and individual freedom have no party.

We have reached the point where the system is so corrupt it cannot reform itself. The elites who control both parties live lives of luxury insulated from the masses paying tribute. They are like the feudal lords living in the castle surrounded by a moat. They do not care about the lives of the serfs outside as long as the tribute keeps flowing. If the flow of coin is interrupted they will send the knights out to punish the serfs and extract even more.

Look at history. Once the elites are corrupted and isolated from the masses, conditions for the masses eventually reach the point of anarchy, revolution, and/or invasion from the outside.

We see the signs of anarchy around us in the inner cities and in rural areas. The serfs are arming themselves because the corrupt justice system will no longer keep the wolves at bay. The invasion from third world illegal immigrants has been going on for decades and is contributing to the breakdown of our culture. The already oppressive tax burden is high and will become unbearable next year with taxmageddon. Add to that the declining number of serfs actually working to support the overlords and we must be nearing a tipping point.

Will we transition to a heavy handed dictatorship for a few decades or fall drectly into a period of anarchy and violence? I don’t see a revolution by conservatives to reestablish the republic because their numbers are too small, they are not organized for concerted action, their leadership is fragmented, and they tend to be middle aged and older. Historically revolutionaries are young men with good leadership and a passion for the cause strong enough to make them willing to die for it.

Today I see stronger and more committed leadership on the left than the right. I haven’t seen one conservative leader emerge I believe is willing to commit her/his life to it. The cocktail parties in New York, Washington, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco are too nice for one to truly sacrifice all for the cause. If you don’t believe it ask Newt.

As long as our conservative leaders are in the comfort zone behind the wall of the castle, don’t expect them to pay more than lip service to the messages from the outside. Remember the blood is being shed everday by serfs under assault from the criminals and illegal immigrants running free outside the castle. The party is still going on inside.

You are right. Newt knows it and so does Gov. Walker of Wisconsin. Isn't it exhausting to fight not only the democrats but the republicans too?
Repeating myself but no more Snowes, Romneys, McCains; we need more Newts and Walkers if we want to reverse the damage being done to our country. It won't happen in my lifetime and maybe never.
As for Boehner..compare what Newt would do as speaker of the house against a liberal president and there in lies the answer.

This time around, a whole different story. Of lot of youth struggling to fine work and pay off the student loans. Lost confidence in Obama.

A second American revolution is coming. I did get the chance to see the American revolution special on the History Channel on July 4th and not all the revolutionaries were as you say “young”.

Caution? The danger is already here, at best this puts into context of where we are, and what we must somehow do.
