We have Saturday and Sunday worship services...our family usually goes on Saturday night because we like to sleep in on Sunday mornings. :) Our pastor last night spoke about America and how it has lost its moorings and is becoming rapidly anti-Christian like Europe.
He even had a missionary who ministers in Europe speak about how irreligious that continent has become, how roughly 80 to 90% of the people in his part of Europe don't worship AT ALL.
My pastor's sermon and the sad results of the recents SCOTUS decision weighed on my heart, and I have decided to try, until the election, to *fast* one meal a week (for me Wednesday breakfast will work out best, probably) to pray for this country. So I fell asleep Saturday night with these thoughts on my heart.
Roughly 37 minutes ago, as I write this, I awoke. Not unusual for me, as at my age I have to wake up once or twice in the night (ha ha)...but this time was different. The urge to pray for America (thanks no doubt to the sermon and my own yearnings for our nation to repent) is on my heart. So I did.
I stayed in bed, but put my heart and mind into action. First I prayed for this nation...for roughly 15 minutes I acknowledged to God my country's wandering away from His principles. I asked him to move the people of this nation back to Him...acknowledging our sinfulness.
I told him that I knew the two men right now who are most likely to be President next were men who did not know Him, yet one of them was at LEAST in the same moral sphere with God's people.
Even though Mr. Romney is not in a theological square with orthodox Christianity, he generally seems to reflect more family values and freedom-based living than does his opponent. God uses imperfect men and women (I need only look in the mirror) to accomplish His purposes on earth.
So I prayed for about 15 minutes for the Lord to turn this nation away from its current leadership and to the men and women who more closely reflect our heritage and His desires.
For the *next* 15 minutes, I prayed that God begin a revival WITH ME. How did I pray? I asked God that He help ME to see how I can share His Love and His Word with someone--someone who cannot or may not expect it. Now I don't mean a political persuasion per se...I mean the Love of Christ in a meaningful way.
Great Awakenings aren't political movements, but radical changes of peoples' HEARTS and SOULS toward the God of Heaven. They happen when Christ's followers embrace their mission of being lights to the world to make disciples of all men and "shine" before them. So for half the prayer I asked God to BEGIN with me.
I believe perhaps this is a call to other believers out there, so I am posting this very personal experience...not to "build myself" up, but to share what just happened this past hour as a possible call to any other Christ-followers out there who may want to join me in such a prayer activity.
Remember it doesn't begin and end with prayer--we pray and then work and share. Pray for the nation and our example, work for Christian values and the conservative cause in the political arena, and share the love of Christ with others so they can see we are different from the world.
I still will try to fast on Wednesday mornings--our country is in deep moral, spiritual and political decline and truly if any time is needed for revival in all three arenas that time is NOW.
November is coming soon: election day is 18 weeks from Tuesday. Can anyone, WILL anyone join me in prayer for this nation and our own witness?
Actually, we are speaking the same truth. When Terri died, it was a catalyst of us turning our back on God.

Agree! Terri was deprived of nourshment and starved to death by the State. That my FRiend is torture. Anything further would probably get me banned or suspended.
I pray for our country daily but am not the least bit optimistic about its effectiveness. I don’t see how it can be turned around. We have over a hundred million malleable morons on the teat and they can’t be weaned. But they can and will vote. Let’s face it, Romney doesn’t have a chance. Half the people have no stake in the game and there are about fifty million on food stamps. Let’s get real here. I’ll continue to pray but we’re clearly on the road to ruin and Obama and company will be smiling through it all. By the by, does anyone consider it ironic that Obama was saved by a man (Chief Justice Roberts) that neither he nor Biden had any confidence in whatsoever. They both voted against Roberts’s confirmation.
Nothing wrong with letting folks know you prayed and seeing if it will induce more prayer.
God hasn't turned His back on anyone - He is exercising His perfect love and Humility by allowing us to have it our way. When we pray, He will give one of three answers: Yes / No / If you insist...

And our deficient public school system left it at that.

Just Woke Up, Spent A Half Hour in Prayer For This Nation
With Obama as president, a half hour isn’t going to cut it.
One very effective way to do that is through ridicule and dismissiveness. Although we should heed your warnings as deadly serious it is counter productive to confront liberals as though we take them seriously in all situations. Treat them personally as nothing more than children and objects of derision. It's ego shattering. They may redouble their efforts and respond with great anger but they lose a lot of advantages in doing so. We are the majority and we are the ones who hold the originalist view of America after all.
Did you read the entirety of my post carefully? I urged people to pray AND act....you seem to think I meekly and merely called for a “religious” exercise. I did not.

Our pastor has been leading us in extra prayer at the end of every Mass for the preservation of liberty in this nation. Many are talking and acting in the pursuit of preserving our nation in a way that I’ve not seen before.
God bless the USA....and her citizens who roll up their sleeves and WORK to win this next election! And IF they are not praying and working hard in constructive ways to get out the vote...they should not open their mouths to criticize the results.

Who will fight against Obama’s totalitarian liberal fascism here? We should be in the streets by now, but we meekly are not.We should be demonstrating by the thousands against the lies foisted on the public by the MSM.Yet we are not.
I just do not understand why people do not perceive the threat we are under as a civilized people. This is exactly the way that fascists came to power in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s.No one did ANYTHING to stop it from within the native culture.
