As a guy who's been unemployed for a few months, I've made a habit of looking for silver linings in the darkness. Folks, there is some good news to this monstrosity: now Romney's path to the White House is pretty much assured.
Up until today, Obama had one issue that was haunting him: the economy. He could blame the GOP for not doing being "bipartisan"...a charge that has always made me nauseous. But as of today, Obama's got to defend a policy that the majority of American people don't like. And he can't blame the Republicans for this - they didn't vote for it.
Guess what? Obama just raised taxes on the middle class. How did that work out for George H. Bush? The Democrats, as we all know, are not the party of the middle class. The debt now exceeds the GDP. The higher it goes, the greater pressures there will be to raise taxes on the middle class.
Romney can point out that with another four years of Obama, more taxes will be coming. Does anyone doubt that this administration will raise taxes on energy through cap and trade? And given this man's fondness for issuing executive orders, why let a little bump in the road like Congress get in the way of what he wants?
Now, like many of you, Mitt Romney was not my first choice. I hated Romneycare. On the other hand, there is a difference between what a state can do, and what the federal government can do - it's clearly explained in the Constitution. And I do think Romney has been clear on this point: that the current FCA is an overreach of federal power. Romney has vowed to repeal this - and I think with a Senate majority, he can do so, just like the Democrats did when they forced this on the American people.
Acordint to Ira Stoll, you may be exactly right:
Though the decision will widely be portrayed as a victory for President Obama his signature legislative accomplishment was ratified as constitutional by a Supreme Court majority that included George W. Bush-appointed chief justice John Roberts it isnt necessarily clear that it will be a victory. By calling the mandate a tax, the court made an official ruling that President Obama had violated his 2008 campaign promise not to raise taxes on anyone earning less than $250,000 a year. And the ruling also keeps ObamaCare alive as a political issue. A ruling that struck down the law might have energized Obama supporters. This ruling may make the laws opponents even more determined to elect a Republican president and Congress so that they can repeal the law or, failing that, defund it.

Just wait until the OWS crowd turns 26 years and one day old. They will be the most heavily taxed class in America. I do keep my oldest son on my policy but I had prepared him for the healthcare to be struck down. Now we must prepare our children and ourselves for full- fledged communism. I guess our only comfort is, it is now considered a tax, completely.
I have no faith in our nation as a “Nation of Laws” today.
I find myself re-thinking how I pay taxes and what I share with the government. We are not enforcing laws, abiding by the constitution or anything.
I don't see how we pull out of this. Today may be the nail in the coffin that relegates the US into perpetual mediocrity, as Europe is today. Another great nation turns the corner and starts the long slow fall from capitalism and freedom as we vote ourselves into submission and tyranny.
I am sick that my kids may never know what a great country we once were.
If Obama gets re-elected, I do hope TX and OK will start discussions on sussecion. Let's pull the scab quickly.
(Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow)
I don't think so. Imagine this exchange at the first presidential debate:
Romney: Obamacare is the greatest tax increase in history.
Obama: Well George, I modeled my plan after your Massachusetts health care plan.
Romney: Well...yeah...
Obama’s pyrhic victory.
Romney is the next President of the United States as long as he insures that the voters understand fully the massive, economy crippling, tax increase that has been put in place already and is on their personal horizon if Obama is re-elected.
Don’t bet the farm on it. Oops, we all are, because the farm is gone if Obama gets re-elected.
I would not count on it....... We thought we would win with the SCOTUS, and they turned coat on us. Obama is speaking now as smug and swagger as any President on earth. He makes me sick!
Are you kidding?
Obama has the winds at his back now.
Even IF the RINO Romney wins the USSC precedent remains. When the democrats eventually take over again they have the RIGHT to force you to buy services ( and in the future, goods) under penalty of law !!!
Get it ?
The USA has been finally transformed completely ( Wickard v. Filburn was the BIG 1st step ) into a Statist, neo-marxist Socialist State.
How many pages is Obamacare?
You are wrong.
This hurts Obama and this helps Romney.
Amen.
Mitt Romney will now lose the election. Obama will spike this ball everywhere he goes and just like Ruth Buzzy Ginsburg wrote in her opinion. Romney is to thank for giving us the model of mandated insurance. Romney has no credibility at all. We tried to get that message out in the primaries when we had some conservative running but the establishment wanted to just cram another bush down our throat ( you know bush-— he appointed Roberts!!!)
This decision erases the aura of incompetence that hung over Obama. The people who react negatively were already going to vote for Romney.
I’m glad Romney has come out swinging on this. Now we have to get the information from conservatives who have actually READ the 2700 pages so that we can educate our fellow citizens. Armed with the truth of how Obamacare will affect them, and their families, we can convince them to join us in dumping the folks who voted for this monstrosity.
You are way too optimistic.
What about Hussein’s weasels — will Mitt fire the newly hired Secret Service agents?
It's likely that the topic will never be brought up during the presidential debates...It's a done deal...Let's move on...
