At the end of May, Gallup released a poll that found Mitt Romney leading President Barack Obama by 24 points, 58% to 34% among veterans, who make up 13% of the population. Romney, who did not serve in the military, was doing better among veterans against Obama than veteran John McCain did. McCain beat Obama by 10 points among veterans in 2008.
A week later, on June 5, the Associated Press conveniently and coincidentally published a story that hammered Romney -- and three generations of his family -- for not having served in the military while giving Obama a pass for not having served.
The AP noted that although Romney was an early supporter of the Vietnam War, he avoided military service at the height of the fighting by seeking and receiving four draft deferments, which included a a 31-month stretch as a minister of religion in France, a classification for Mormon missionaries that the church at the time feared was being overused.
The story also emphasized that neither Romneys father nor his sons have served in the military and referenced his fathers comments about having been brainwashed in Vietnam. Those comments essentially ended his fathers chances of becoming preside

So Wee Willie Mitty is a FOUR time draft dodger...
I can fully imagine Romney in uniform but for some reason I don’t see anything but Obama in uniform more like something that would be something perfect for the cover of “Mad” Magazine.
neither Romneys father nor his sons have served in the military

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Being afraid of being caught at their nasty tricks sure didnt seem to have himndered the Mormon company any...
They managed to find FOUR excuses for Wee Willie Mitty to dodge the draft...
I hope if Willard was to get to be POTUS and wants to bring back the draft he is told “Draft one of your own boys first”
or if he wants to get us into some conflict somewhere he is told “Send one of your own boys first”
There were thousands of people with power (financial or government power) who tried everything they could to keep their sons out of Vietnam. I doubt George Romney (as a state governor) was any different.
The only politicians who sent their sons off to war (like Gore and Kerry) did so for the express purpose of furthering their sons’ electability when they returned to the States. They all saw the JFK-PT109 model and decided to get them into the military yet somehow away from combat.
Exactly
I can fully imagine Romney in uniform

I cant...
Every time I see something about “military service being a requisite for being President”, I’m reminded that Adolf Hitler and Timothy McVeigh were War Heroes, while Abe Lincoln only served a few weeks as a militia captain in the Black Hawk War in 1832.
neither Romneys father nor his sons have served in the military....Nor his grandfather, great grandfather or great great grandfather...SIX generations...
As both a veteran of Gulf War 1 and Bosnia, the son of a WWII vet who endured Kamikaze attacks and a ship sinking and the father of a Marine currently on his second deployment to Afghanistan, I find those comments of yours insulting and demeaning. What ever attributes or lack of that Romney has, his military service is not part of the equation.
FWIW, I took two deferments in college. So, I guess that makes anyone who took a deferment a draft dodger too?
The point of this article is that Romney is taking heat for not serving his country all the while giving Obama a pass on his lack of service.
I guess I can see why Obama never served though...you have to have a valid birth certificate.
That the Leftist media has never even bothered to address the numerous actions by the President, wholly inconsistent with love--or even respect--for the American achievement; such as the 20 years of listening to Rev. Wright spew hatred; such as his youthful involvement with known Marxist revolutionaries; such as his idolization of a Kenyan Leftist father, he didn't actually even know, etc.; all of such, tells us how truly biased that media is.

Your statement just triggered a memory. In 1969 I burned both my draft notice as well as my draft card.
I’d just gotten home from a tour with 509th RR Gp, MACV and did it as a joke. For some reason the local draft board never got word I enlisted as was in Vietnam when they decided to draft me.
let’s talk about selective service forms
I’m sure Romney filled out his
0bama... well....
The Romneys came here in 1842 to serve Joseph Smith personally, they did not gravitate to Smith after coming here to be American, they immigrated to America solely to serve Mormonism, and Mitt's family has never done differently, even his own father was born in Mexico, where his family had moved to because of the families anti-Americanism.
No war, no peace time, no draft, no wave of patriotism, has ever snagged one from his line, Romney is the second of his line to run for Commander in Chief of American Armed Forces during wartime, in a row.
This family won't do military service, but they do crave the presidency.
Mitt Romney is an actual "chicken-hawk", he mocked and demonstrated against others hesitant to serve and then moved to France to avoid military service and to avoid the media as his father ran for the presidency as the anti-war, anti-military, republican.
It reminds me that George Washington and Ronald Reagan were ex-military.
“AP Hammers Romney for Lack Of Military Service”
You mean in comparison to Obama’s?

Are we sure? Maybe little Baraq was in some Islamo youth brigade back in Indonesia.
