Also at Maxwell is the Air Force's Aerospace Basic Course for all newly commissioned Second Lieutenants. On the other side of Montgomery, Alabama is Gunter Annex where the Senior Noncommissoned Officer Academy is located. A number of years ago it was decided in the Air Education and Training Command that on one side of the city you had newly minted butter bars, and on the other side of the city you had the crusty Senior NCO’s. Why not put them together for a week? It actually turned out quite well. We Senior NCO’s were able to let the Lieutenants know that we will help them in their careers as long as they let us help them. Loads of educational opportunities. (And we didn't laugh too hard at them)

Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

Just This Once

June 5, 2012

As a boy, I used to ride a go-cart that was steered with a rope. On one occasion, as I propelled my way down the driveway, my parents’ warning came to mind: “Always look up and down the street for cars.” But I rationalized: It’s okay not to do that just this once. Then I heard the sound of screeching tires as a car came to an abrupt stop to avoid hitting me. Thinking I could break my parents’ rule nearly cost me my life.

The Bible has many examples of those who knew better but who chose to break God’s rules. From boyhood, David had meditated on the law of God while he tended his sheep. He knew that the seventh commandment condemned adultery, yet when he saw a beautiful woman bathing he used his royal power to take the wife of Uriah for his own. This sin resulted in terrible consequences (2 Sam. 11–12).

The psalmist wrote: “Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins” (Ps. 19:13). Have you felt tempted to do something “just this once” even though you knew it was wrong? Glancing at Internet pornography, “borrowing” money from an account at work, or stretching the truth may each seem like an isolated activity but can lead to terrible consequences. With God’s help, turn from sin and find His way of escape (1 Cor. 10:13).

Prone to wander—Lord, I feel it;
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above. —Robinson
Temptations will knock at your door; don’t ask them to stay for dinner!

Read: Psalm 19:7-14

Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins. —Psalm 19:13

Hi, Ma!

Spent about a week at Gunter a few years back. Gunter is a next to nothing base without flight line, dedicated aircraft, ramp or runways. That’s devoted entirely to education. Whose Rear Gate can be seen when entering the Main Gate.

Maxwell, which is about a 20 minute drive from Gunter is HUGE! With a decent Commissary, Clothing Sales, excellent dining facilities and several Academies (Senior NCO, Staff, Command, etc). A couple of different squadrons of fixed and fling wing aircraft. Plus a few top grade golf courses.

Under Air University are three principal schools that provide various levels of Joint Professional Military Education (JPME). The first is Squadron Officer School (SOS), a nearly 2 month program oriented towards First Lieutenants and Captains in the Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard.

Longest 7 weeks of my life. I never drank as much as I did then.

It is always interesting to see who comes through Maxwell attending Air University. Hang around Montgomery long enough and you will see people in flight suits from countries that you didn’t know had Air Forces.

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our

military, our allies, and their families

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.

DC Metroland Weather

~ Today...Mostly cloudy with isolated showers in the morning...
Then partly sunny in the afternoon.
Highs in the lower 70s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
Chance of rain 20 percent.

~ Tonight...Mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 50s.
Southeast winds around 5 mph...
Becoming southwest after midnight.

Okay, still work piled up to my ears
so it'll be another post and run day for me.
From the looks of things
it'll be next week before I'll have
time to hang around the Canteen in the mornings.

However, I will be posting the thread on Thursday night
and hope to be here to greet everyone on Friday morn. Until then...
Please stay.
