Researchers have just reported that among the list of bodily ills that fructose contributes to, it may also "make you dumb." Luckily, eating a diet rich in the healthy omega-3 fatty acids seems to counteract this phenomenon.
The rats also had important differences in how their bodies - and brains - were metabolizing sugar and functioning overall. The rats who had eaten diets without omega-3s had higher triglyceride levels as well as higher glucose and insulin levels. In fact the rats seemed to enter a state of insulin resistance (a precursor to diabetes), but this too was reversed by the addition of omega-3s.
And since our bodies are not very good producers of DHA and EPA, taking in the healthy fatty acids through diet or supplements may also be wise. The best sources of DHA/EPA are cold-water fish like tuna and salmon, and for the vegetarians out there, these forms may also be found in seaweed and algae (in small amounts), or in concentrated seaweed/algae supplements. Gomez recommends consuming about one gram of DHA every day.

Is HF corn syrup making us fat and dumb? Something is...
Yep....boy those trout and salmon are all MENSA members...
“Look Fred...there’s some corn floating in the water! I think I’ll have lunch! (bite) Owwwwwww!”
“Look Steve.....Bob just tried to eat some corn that was floating in the water and he went away. Must be my lucky day! (bite) Owwwww!”
Fish.....we eat them cause they’re stupid and tasty.
Be careful in consuming Omega-3 it can cause internal bleeding if one consumes too much. I have heard that one should keep consumption below 1500 units.
Last night Jay Leno said that's why those old guys who have the young chicks are called "Sugar Daddies".
“The best sources of DHA/EPA are cold-water fish like tuna and salmon,”
Provides the Minimum Daily Requirement of mercury, too.
The curious thing here...is that our American diet didn’t really involve that much sugar until you get to the 1920s, and by the 1960s...it literally explodes with sugar usage. And here in 2012....if you measured the amount of sugar you consume in an average month...it’s beyond comprehension.
Take an individual into a controlled environment and limit him over ten years to four-percent of what we normally consume in sugar today...and I think you’d find a very healthy individual. But I doubt if any of us are willing to give up donuts, Mountain Dew, sweet tea, or honey buns.
Pardon me but my peanut butter and jelly sandwich with banana and strawberry slices eagerly awaits me—or is it the other way around? Hey at least its healthier than the Elvis PB&J larded up fried version.
Concerning ‘Stuck on Stupid’... does one become ‘Stupid’ before voting ‘DemoRat’ or after? If whatsoever then pour on the sugar but hold on the democrat! May your calories be empty but not your head!
“But I doubt if any of us are willing to give up donuts, Mountain Dew, sweet tea, or honey buns.”
I gave it all up years ago. You need to include starchy foods and other foods that use corn syrup. Even then, bodies that have a strong resistance to insulin will still convert everything to fat storage. With bodies that use insulin properly, for energy production, sugar isn’t such a bad deal. It is low in calories and high in energy. A body that works properly will eventually get everything turned into sugar.
End of story.
The day a rat builds a practical electric vehicle is the day I’ll start believing this nonsense.
Yes indeed! Honey Buns would be really ANGRY if I gave her up.
Chocolate-covered salmon!!
Thanks Innovative.
what I think will be the final conclusion, if there is one, is that we Americans, anyway ,consume way too many calories, period..
..it doesn't matter if its red meat or potatoes or noodles..
..we eat far more than we need too....
look at the people in the 40's....skinny....
I remember being a pretty active child, but we were up at dawn and active outside most of the spring, summer and fall, and we'd sled ride at night in the winter....
we sat at the table and all of we kids would eat several ears of corn, lots of fresh beans, lots of everything....
we did not have potatoe chips or soda very much at all...nor did we have cookies much....we had apples...
cut the calories is the same old story....
