FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Remember the Good Old Days? Sock Hops? Drive-in Movies? Buddy Holly? Or other things that made it Fabulous? You know, before cellphones? Come on in and share your memories. Or take a trip back in time.
Tonight well check out 1930. The 30's were a time when the depression caused by the wall street crash in late 1929 caused the world to undergo a fundamental change in lifestyles, and as part of the change some new radical politics became popular as seen in the rise of Fascism, Nazism, and Stalinism The 30's also provided a strange phenomenon never repeated where bank robbers and murderers were thought of as celebrities (a sort of modern Robin Hood) which in truthfulness they did not rob from the rich to give to the poor just to rob and murder any who got in their way.
In 1930 average new house cost $7,145.00 In 1930 a gallon of gas was 10 cents In 1930 the average cost of new car was $640.00 In 1930 the average income per year was $1,970.00 The wearing of Sunglasses became popular in the 30's Childrens thirties options included Mickey Mouse, more streamlined pedal cars, and a wide range of wind up cars, trucks and even a wind up Popeye. Action Comics continued to grow and Superman is seen in a comic for the first time
New Master Deluxe Chevrolet with improved master blue flame engine, pressure steam oiling, cable brakes and shock proof steering = $560
The Film Wizard of OZ Gone with the Wind
Some of the Most Well Known Movie Stars of the Thirties
Clark Gable couple of his films from the 30's Gone with the Wind and Mutiny on the Bounty Shirley Temple couple of her films from the 30's Stand Up and Cheer! and Bright Eyes
Baseball
National Baseball Hall of Fame starts with the first players to be chosen Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson and Babe Ruth Joe DiMaggio starts his career at the New York Yankees taking the crown over from Babe Ruth who retires. To help with falling attendance due to the depression, night games are started. Live Radio broadcasts of baseball games begin to encourage fans to help sell tickets

Thanks, AZ, for the “white” tribute for our troops.
Did you have an uneventful commute? Minimal obstacles?

A Call To Commitment
April 27, 2012
Many health and fitness centers expect a flood of people to join every January who will come only a few times. They dont mind if people pay the fee and never return. But fitness trainer Jesse Jones takes the opposite approach. If you sign up and dont show up, he will terminate your membership. Jones says, Save your money. Come see me in a few months when youre serious. My passion is not for another three-month payment . . . were making people accountable to reach their goals.
In Luke 9:57-62, we encounter three people who told Jesus they wanted to follow Him, and all received what seem to be harsh replies from the Lord: The Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head (v.58). Let the dead bury their own dead (v.60). No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God (v.62). For each person, Jesus stated the sacrifice and commitment required to become His disciple.
A man I admire as a dedicated and sensitive follower of Christ says that Christians need to be ready for radical commitment and change. The Lord calls us not only to leave the status quo, but also to take that calling seriously by following Him.
Lord, I want to be sold out for You. I want to
love You with my whole heart, soul, mind, and
strength. Give me the power to be who You want me
to be, and to walk in Your ways.
Following Jesus demands our all.

Good evening, Kathy!
*HUGS*
They haven't managed to load any work into the new system, so we've been doing make-work assignments for the last two days on the old system. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.
I was particularly sore today. Woke up several times in the night and could barely move. This morning when I got up I could barely walk
with the walker. Improved slowly during the day, but still painful to move around. The lower back is acting up the last couple days. Still, it's slowly improving overall.

Good evenin’ Kathy...((HUGS))...all is getting better. Still have some discomfort on my right side yet.
Nate is real good at the push ups ans scooting backwards but no actual crawling yet. He gets cereal twice daily and just loves pears.
Daughter is getting better each day.
I hope “Happy Days ahead???” continues and improves.

Thanks very much, Publius! "The Adventures of Robin Hood" is one of my all time faves. As it happens, we never had a color TV when I was growing up - I didn't realize until I was an adult that it was filmed in color. Same story with "The Wizard of Oz."

Now here's a sweet one. When George Gershwin was hired to write the music for "Shall We Dance", Pandro Berman, the producer, told Gershwin he didn't need to bother with the musical numbers that linked the scenes. They would be handed to a lesser composer.
"But I want to write those interludes myself," Gershwin said to Berman. "I don't wanr them handed to a lesser composer."
And so here is a classic Gershwin interlude titled "Walking the Dog" which he uses as a prelude to "Beginner's Luck".

That's precious, Publius - we'll never see anything like that again, sadly. Now it's all crudity and raunchiness. I'd rather watch an old movie any day.
