Rural kids, parents angry about Labor Dept. rule banning farm chores (nanny state cont'd)
The Daily Caller ^ | 4/25/12 | Patrick Richardson

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves.

The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.

Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.”

It's getting harder and harder to not accuse this administration of a concerted takeover plot.

Nothing like putting family farms out of business, by raising their costs beyond reason.

I’d say ignore it. Unless the government plans to spend billions of dollars placing a full time inspector on every family farm in America it’s unenforceable anyway.

Any truth to the rumor that this bill has been named, “Work For Wetbacks”?

...but if they would like to engage in premarital sex or have an abortion, the DNC will continue to do everything in its' power to protect their rights to rebel against their parents.

A full time inspector would mean more government jobs, more Obama support and they are paid for with your tax money. It seems likely to me.

I can remember when the local high school football teams tried to get hired for the potato harvest to get in shape. It made more sense than doing jumping jacks on a field.

I worked on a chicken farm, 85,000 chickens, you shoveled food in at one end of the barn and shoveled the poop out at the other.

It was a shovel ready job long before Obama came on the scene.

ignore the law........

ignore the lawyers. There is no way to enforce such an abomination and it should be declared OS (like BS only without proper credentials).

This means that any kid cannot serve themselves a breakfast containing cereal, milk and eggs (transporting) or offering it to other family members (marketing) or put the cereal box, milk or eggs away (storing).

Ignore it. If they come from the farmers, they'll find they knocked over the whole damn hornets nest.

Enough of this bulls*t.

This is just plain stoopid; not to mention a nightmare to enforce to begin with. Oh! Another beauraucracy created! Voila! It’s the Marxist way.

The new regulations, first proposed August 31 by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, would also revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course.

The cat's out of the bag...........by ending these programs fewer young people will go into agriculture thus forcing more family farms to be sold to the likes of Monsanto and ConAgra. It's plain and simple -- follow the money folks.

The number one target of the left and their ideological “father” (John 8:42-44) is the destruction of the family.

You see this in every policy coming out of the left.

This is purely the fault of congress.

They abdicate their responsibilities to the executive branch when they give it rule making authority through various laws. Then bitch when there’s overreach and abuse.

They need to step up, stop being lazy, earn their paychecks and be accountable by voting on these issues.
