FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Remember the Good Old Days? Sock Hops? Drive-in Movies? Buddy Holly? Or other things that made it Fabulous? You know, before cellphones? Come on in and share your memories. Or take a trip back in time.
Tonight well check out 1920. (fooled ya) It was a time of conservatism, it was a time of great social change. In music, the three sounds were jazz, jazz, and jazz. The Jazz Age came about with artist like Bessie Smith and Duke Ellington.
106,521,537 people in the United States 2,132,000 unemployed, Unemployment 5.2% Life expectancy: Male 53.6, Female 54.6 Average annual earnings $1236; Teacher's salary $970 Dow Jones High 100 Low 67 Illiteracy rate reached a new low of 6% of the population. Gangland crime included murder, swindles, racketeering It took 13 days to reach California from New York
Thanks to Henry Ford and mass production, one could buy a ford for $290. The Nineteenth Amendment had passed the previous year allowing women the right to vote in national elections.
Slang: Ab-so-lute-ly affirmative All Wet - describes an erroneous idea or individual, as in, "he's all wet." And How - I strongly agree! Applesauce- an expletive same as horsefeathers, As in "Ah applesauce!" Bee's Knees - An extraordinary person, thing, idea; the ultimate Bank's Closed - no kissing or making out - i.e. - "Sorry, Mac, the bank's closed." Cat's Meow - Something splendid or stylish; similar to bee's knees; The best or greatest, wonderful. Don't know from nothing - don't have any information Don't take any wooden nickels - Don't do anything stupid Flapper - A stylish, brash, hedonistic young woman with short skirts & shorter hair Fly boy - a glamorous term for an aviator Giggle Water - An intoxicating beverage; alcohol
Chicago was hot! Harlem was hot with Jazz and the so-called "devil's music'! (The Cotton Club was open to both whites and blacks and packed nightly.) The Silent Screen stars included the chic Rudolph Valentino, sexy Clara Bow. Rudy Vallee sang through his megaphone. The first talking picture, Don Juan, starring John Barrymore premiered on Broadway in 1926. This made movies big business.
Hope you enjoyed this trip back in time.
Remember, the Canteen is a family friendly place. We welcome the military, our allies, and their families. Continued prayers for the success and completion of your mission. Prayers for your safe return home.

Winter has been gone for quite a while. We have had a few days in the hi 70’s then back to normal of 40’s and 50’s. All in all a good winter and so far good spring. I only plowed 3 times.. : )

Howdy, Kathy! ((((hugs)))
Well, it’s still pretty dry and it is in the 80s now. We did
our weekly hand watering tonight. I sure wish it would rain
a lot so we could stop this.
I guess it’s time for the spring melt, huh. Hope you have a
nice spring and summer up there! :)

OH MY GOSH!
Got a new modem today cuz mine was 7 years old & those on my network were having troubles.
Well....then I couldn’t connect to the internet so Sonboy went & bought a new router as it was old as well (and messing with their gaming).
Did everything I know of & still couldn’t connect. Called the cable provider & appearantly they had to change me in their system. And why didn’t they tell me that when I bought the new modem??? Hummmmmmm????
Would have saved me & Sonboy a lot of frustration! Ha!
So...now it’s after 9’oclock, still in my work clothes & no dinner made.
Surely there’s an agency for compensation for this situation these days! ;-}

I’m not an idiot but sure felt like one tonight! LOL
Are you feeling better now?
To: Kathy in Alaska; AZamericonnie
Shoot, same thing happened to me when I last changed out my router and modem. I forgot the other end of the network - my ISP provider - had to be informed of the change in equipment and MAC addresses.
Glad you’re back online, Connie! You’d sure be missed here pretty quickly...
