Justice Sonia Sotomayor's Shocking Ignorance
American Thinker ^ | March 31, 2012 | Jason Lee, M.D.

The liberal Supreme Court justices have demonstrated profound and shocking ignorance of the American health care system. Here's one of the most jarring examples:

"What percentage of the American people who took their son or daughter to an emergency room and that child was turned away because the parent didn't have insurance," asked Sotomayor, "... do you think there's a large percentage of the American population that would stand for the death of that child -- (who) had an allergic reaction and a simple shot would have saved the child?"

I have a precise answer for Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

The percentage of American people who took their son or daughter to an emergency room and were turned away because the parent didn't have insurance is exactly zero.

No person, whether American or not, is ever turned away from an emergency room for lack of health insurance. Ever.

This simply does not happen.

Here's why:

1. It's illegal.

~snip~

It's disheartening to note that Justice Sonia Sotomayor, as profoundly ignorant as she is, will be making a monumental decision about a 2,700 page health care law. Justice Sotomayor needs to have a talk with her brother.

This kind of story is really shocking.

This Supreme Court justice does not even know that emergency rooms must treat all who come in, regardless of insurance or ability to pay? Yet she is ruling on a far reaching healthcare law.

There should be some minimal knowledge of the subject at hand for judges to rule on a case. I don’t expect that judges will know all the ins and outs of healthcare, but to come from a false premise as she does, that people are turned away from the emergency room, and that is one reason we need Obamacare, is a case of shocking ignorance on her part.

Interestingly enough, señora Sotomayor is an unfortunate indicator of the difference between an ordinary intelligence, garden-variety latina, and a wise latina.

Apparently, your base-level latina is too stupid to walk and breathe at the same time. This is made clear by the fact that a "wise latina" doesn't have the brains God gave a gerbil. How a mejor burracha tonto is allowed to sit on the highest Bench in the land is appalling. Affirmative Action at its absolute worst and most destructive. The unintended consequence of giving un-earned handouts to the smelly people.

The best we can hope for is an aneurysm erputing in that vapid rental space between her ears. What a completely agenda-driven, brain-dead imbecile.

La Raza seems to come from the shallow end of the gene pool. Heaven help us.

No doubt.

My thought when I read this article. I was looking for the place to give you a “thumbs up” and remembered I was on FR.

Sotomayor and Kagen need to go before SCOTUS loses any credibility that it has left. It was a dumb idea to replace justices with a couple of commie lib activists with “compelling life stories”.

When the nation becomes aware that Obama was not a natural born citizen, those two can be removed because their appointer was not eligible to make the appointment. The only way that cat is let fully out of the bag is if the GOP elite are forced into a scenario where they can not win the election without fracturing the democrat vote. The democrats are already very weak in the next election, so the GOP elite have not had to pull that trigger. But ... if we continue to weaken Romney, their chosen candidate, to the point they recognize that he will (and I believe he will) lose an election to Obama just like McCain did, they will let that cat fully out of the bag to save him. That's my bet. They've invested too much money in that loser to just start over. They'd rather break the other side. And that is the only plan the GOP elite has that interests me one bit.

LOL...I’ve been in that exact situation. My father had lost his job and I had an anaphylactic reaction to a nut back when I was 14. The ER knew exactly what was going on when I got there, and they didn’t even have us fill out paperwork, they just wheeled me straight to the nearest fully-equipped room.

No doctor or nurse cares about insurance in those situations. All they see is someone who is going to die if they do not do something right away. Insurance and bills come in later.

When the libs are putting judges on the bench it’s for a vote and has nothing to do with can they do the job. Sad isn’t it? We need to lose these people.

And that principal, that we all are responsible for everyone's healthcare, has led to the situation we are in now. I'm not arguing against it, but I wish someone could figure out how to avoid the ultimate consequence which we are all too close to arriving at, i.e.: if the "government" is responsible for us then it has the right to tell us how to live our lives down to the finest details.

Her ignorance is a feature to the left.

Since there is a perfect vacuum between her ears, the left can rely on her taking direct marching orders from their top intelligentsia/masterminds. Besides, she can funnel innermost SCOTUS secrets back to the left, as they unfold so that they need not wait for example, till the end of June. When your basic premise is to destroy the constitution and declaration and founding principles of the republic, it furthers your goals by having dolts in positions of power.

What I find is breathtaking ignorance is how the people of the left keep invoking “the welfare of the children”, but have no problem supporting the termination of the lives of children in the abortuaries in poor neighborhoods all over the country.

The left has a hard time convincing people that they really care when they do not care about the right to life.

If life is not valued from conception, don’t make an attempt to convince me you really care about people who happened to escape the death culture of the left.

The people on the left merely use people and situations to achieve their goals of tyranny.

No hospital can turn down a patient in dire need of care.

Exactly. And that is why a lot of hospitals, especially in the southwest, have shut down. They may have to treat people but good luck collecting the money (treatment isn't free just because it's required by law).

but I wish someone could figure out how to avoid the ultimate consequence[s]...

For the question at hand at least, I'd like to see more than just forcing hospital ERs to hold and deal with holding the bag. They could be and should be empowered as auto loan companies are to go after ER abusers finances, paychecks, garnishing abilities, "repo" men/woman, access to estates, etc....

I'm clearly not saying ERs should turn people away, but there must be recourse to them to get some remunerations for their services beyond just sticking it to everybody EXCEPT the abuser.

Yes it's shocking to realize how uninformed this unqualified Supreme Court Justice is - but hardly unexpected. Sotomayor is on the Court as a political marker for the left and nothing more. She'll rule the mandate 'constitutional' even if James Madison were to come back from the grave to tell her it isn't. Judgement has nothing to do with it. Political ideology is everything to the leftists among us.

What I find scary is that this clueless woman and eight other people in black robes looking solemn and important for the cameras will, with this ruling, help determine the future for America regarding citizens relationship with their government. In reality, just one will, Justice Kennedy, which is even worse. Of course, they may find the law unconstitutional, but we cannot count on that. This is the consequence of electing a left-wing, America-hating radical extremist that was never really examined by the media and was basically handed the presidency by his ostensible 'opponent' (John McCain) and the RNC. Now, the whirlwind.

America is going the way of Europe and by the time people finally wake up, it'll be far too late. This case will propel the decline of American freedom and the prosperity that freedom has wrought. Sadder still, its taken less than a century to accomplish this.

It is definitely sad. The federal bench is rife with lib appointed judges and more sad is they’ll always be there.

Stephen Reinhardt is probably the most liberal judge in the 9th Circus (most overturned by SCOTUS) and that’s saying something, he was appointed by Jimmah Carter in 1980.

Excuse me but-I’m an American of hispanic ancestry (wouldn’t a “Latina” be a Roman woman?) who thinks Sotomayor is a total dumbass. And no one in my family or of my acquaintance is “too stupid to walk”, whether male or female. We are all a good deal smarter than a gerbil-that is a liberal fallacy, as is the idea that we all like affirmative action-my college education was obtained quite nicely without any such thing. Please do not generalize people by ethnic groups-there is enough stupidity in all of them to go around...

Interesting theory. Too bad it utterly depends on a fact not in evidence, that the republicans want to win the election.
