Trayvon Martin, my son, and the Black Male Code
Google News A/P ^ | 3/24/12 | JESSE WASHINGTON

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — I thought my son would be much older before I had to tell him about the Black Male Code. He's only 12, still sleeping with stuffed animals, still afraid of the dark. But after the Trayvon Martin tragedy, I needed to explain to my child that soon people might be afraid of him.

We were in the car on the way to school when a story about Martin came on the radio. "The guy who killed him should get arrested. The dead guy was unarmed!" my son said after hearing that neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman had claimed self-defense in the shooting in Sanford, Fla.

We listened to the rest of the story, describing how Zimmerman had spotted Martin, who was 17, walking home from the store on a rainy night, the hood of his sweatshirt pulled over his head. When it was over, I turned off the radio and told my son about the rules he needs to follow to avoid becoming another Trayvon Martin — a black male who Zimmerman assumed was "suspicious" and "up to no good."

As I explained it, the Code goes like this:

You’re throwing a whole lot of drama in this. I never said all the things you are typing.

You have taken many liberties in determing what happened that night.

I merely suggest that Trayvon could have called 911. If he had, I am fairly certain he would still be alive.

But if being right or whatever is worth being dead, so be it. I don’t agree.

I am curious, Ecliptic: How do you know he had a gun in his hand when he got out of the car? Is there an eyewitness report of that, did you get that from reading another Freeper’s post, or did you deduce that is what must have happened?

That's if you believe Zimmerman was telling the truth to the cops

Or the witness, who says the same thing.

Plus, Tray-Vahn's father says the voice crying for help on the 911 call was not his son's.

You've lost, you just haven't figured it out yet.

"... (note that all the pictures of Martin are from years back, he is actually much larger and more mature than they are showing)..."

So where can I see a current picture of this Martin character?? I must have read over a dozen threads, and have never seen a current pic. All I've seen are the older pics. How are YOU guys seeing one??? Could someone finally post one? Thanks.

So far, none of the MSM has asked how many kids now have no biological father since Travon died

Zimmerman left the truck in order to maintain visual contact with Martin who was running. The transcript of the call to police proves that. Your last sentence `Don`t think this is what happened` is indicative of the problem with this entire conversation. You are speculating as to what happened. All we have to go on are Zimmerman`s statement, eyewitness accounts, police reports and the transcripts of a phone call to police none of which support your speculation.

Black men and other people being harassed by police or neighbors or school bullies all over the country should start getting out their videocams to put cops, security guards and wannabe neighborhood gestapo in their place.

If someone is harassing you in a neighborhood or public street and they continuely siccing the cops on you, even though you committed no crime, you can file harassment complaint against them and threaten to file a lawsuit against the community who put the nut in charge. Just the threat of lawsuit can be very effective.

Videotaping is the best modern day weaponry because video is the best proof.

That would’ve gotten Zimmerman running scared that he might lose his phony cop fantasy job that he was obsessed with. Find something better to do, like spend time with his wife/kids or get a job instead of circling the neighborhood 1000 times a day and harassing people over trivial things.

If they try to claim that you are the bad guy, it will be all on tape and they won’t have a leg to stand on.

People are video taping the cops to keep them in check. They are getting pissed and furious and telling people to “stop recording”. They try to confiscate the video evidence.

Zimmerman abused his power, harassed and intimidated residents of Twin Lakes community

At an emergency homeowner’s association meeting on March 1, “one man was escorted out because he openly expressed his frustration because he had previously contacted the Sanford Police Department about Zimmerman approaching him and even coming to his home.” “It was also made known that there had been several complaints about George Zimmerman and his tactics” in his neighborhood watch captain role.

Local blog LezGetReal says that anonymous neighbors also complained of Zimmerman bringing his gun to Neighborhood Watch meetings and calling the rest of the members “drunks, trouble-makers and lunatics”.

An unnamed member of the homeowner’s association says they never heard any complaints about Zimmerman. (worried about a big lawsuit so covering their butt LOL )

“Why the crude language sport”

Because I can. And I ain’t your “sport”

Also cause when someone spreads false informantion as gospel, as many so called freepers have been doing then I’ve decided if I see it I’m gonna call them on it.

So, how about telling us all your source since you seem to know all about what happened?

We’re waiting.....

After Trayvon Martin was killed, Al Dotson Jr., a lawyer in Miami and chairman of the 100 Black Men of America organization, told his 14-year-old son that he should always be aware of his surroundings, and of the fact that people might view him differently “because he’s blessed to be an African-American.”

The mission of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. is to improve the quality of life within our communities and enhance educational and economic opportunities for all African Americans.

Insn’t that racist! No whites need apply...

I THOUGHT we were suppose to be judged by our character instead of our skin color. I get so confused by all the “rules” that we are suppose to follow. Maybe if the people making the “rules” followed them FIRST we would be much better of. They aren’t exactly leading by example.

Thanks melancholy - it’s an eye opener:

An August report by the Justice Department showed that in 2005, blacks represented 13% of the U.S. population but accounted for nearly half of its murder victims. Most of the black murder victims — 93% —were killed by other black people.

Then you were in an exceedingly rare agency that encourages citizens to make stops on people walking down the sidewalks. Most agencies never encourage people to conduct field stops against potentially armed suspicious persons,,, never. The liability is catastrophic,,, and the potential for untrained people to grossly violate civil rights,,,and then claim they were doing what the dept said is Freakin enormous.
I know a lot of backwards places do some backyard things. But if a cop stops me,, I must cooperate, provide ID, etc.
If a citizen patrol stops me,, I can laugh, flip the finger, and walk away. If they try to detain me, I can defend myself.
Bad precedent to engage in police activity where the target can tell you to go F yourself,,, and you must slink away.

He was clearly disregarding instructions not to keep following.

in his lack of skill and training,, decided the guy was armed

someone he clearly thought might be armed decided in desperation, to go for it

Why post lies and made up stories?

What a law enforcement agency recommends and what the law states are not the same thing. I have taken into custody many suspects who were arrested by vigilant citizens.

As far as I can tell, that didn't happen in this case either. Do you have ANY backup for your contention that he conducted a "field stop" or is this 100% pure speculation on your part?
