Howdy, Taz! (((hugs)))

Hope you are having nice weather this weekend. Ours is lovely...at least today. Tomorrow, it will be nearly 90
degrees...a little warm for this time of year, but not awful. :)

That is indeed correct! On the Department of Defense photo pages, the pictures of the Constitution formerly bore a legend such as "The U.S. Navy’s sailing ship USS Constitution, the world’s oldest commissioned warship, . . . " The HMS Victory is, I believe, still afloat, but I do not know if it is actively commissioned, or whether it is only a museum. I also don't know whether it is capable of sailing at this juncture. Constitution ventures out at lest once a year.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Gustave Mahler was fascinated by a collection of German folk poetry known as “The Young Boy’s Magic Horn”. He set many of these poems to music, and one was featured at the beginning of this thread, “Primal Light”, which he used in his Second Symphony.

He also used another poem, “Bimm Bamm”, which attempts to recreate the sound of church bells. This was inserted into his Third Symphony as the fifth movement. The chorus is supposed to be angels singing in heaven.

Even when Mahler is working with beauty and innocence, he can’t help letting his sardonic side come out, and at 2:30 he lets it loose. But he resolves it beautifully with the soprano voices holding the last note.
