Raucous GOP caucus in Missouri is shut down
St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | March 18, 2012

Because St. Louis County’s caucuses were divided into 28 township meetings, St. Charles County was slated to assign more delegates than any other single location on Saturday. Jackson County, which includes Kansas City, has more delegates, but, like St. Louis city, asked to hold its caucuses on March 24, so as to avoid a conflict with St. Patrick’s Day.

The caucus in St. Charles County, which was held at Francis Howell North High in St. Peters, was adjourned after police said they were going to “shut us down,” according to Matt Ehlen, the Republican activist who was named chairman of the meeting. Police said 2,500 people showed up, although organizers put the number at less than 1,000.

“For the safety and well being of the attendants at the caucus, we had to adjourn the meeting,” Ehlen said.

However, several individuals at the caucus said much of the consternation revolved around Ehlen himself. Ehlen became chairman after a voice vote, but the head of the county GOP organization failed to recognize any other candidate.

“All of sudden he’s the chairman and the place goes nuts,” said Tim Finch, a Paul supporter from Dardenne Prairie. “This is not how it’s supposed to work.”

Buddy Hardin, a Romney leader and longtime behind-the-scenes force in GOP politics in St. Charles County, alleged that Santorum supporters and caucus organizers sought to close the meeting after they realized that Paul and Romney backers had formed an alliance to share the county’s delegates.

Haven't heard a word of this on news tonight.

Why don’t they just have a damn primary? What’s the point of a caucus?

Agreed, these caucuses are a mess. Go with primaries. (And as a Michigan resident I say no changes to the rules after the vote)

They already had a primary. Santorum won by a large margin. Romney and Paul are teaming up again to hijack the process and rig the meeting.

So much for honoring the will of the people...

With all the shenanigans by the Romney, Paul, and establishment critters, this primary stinks a lot like the Hillary-Obama primary. Makes me wonder if some of the same tactics to get Obama as the dem nominee are being used to get Romney as the rep nominee - and by the same people, since Soros has said that Romney would be the same as Obama. The R establishment seems to think Obama’s election is a given, so why would they care so wildly to have the candidate who gets defeated by Obama be Romney?

Yep, exactly what happened. Should anyone be surprised at the treachery of Mitt Romney? Disgusting Dem tactics.

Caucus is much cheaper than a primary for a state. My current state of residence, Washington, canceled the primary and held only the caucus to save money. This state is broke! Surprise surprise it is run by democrats!!

So some ‘wise’ guys/gals in the GOP decided they could control who gets elected like Obama did in 2008 and the confusion is spread.

They wanted to have a primary, but Governor Nixon(Dem) vetoed the bill that would have scheduled the primary date late enough to avoid losing 1/2 the delegates per National party rules.

So the GOP decided to hold caucus instead. Also couldn’t get a bill passed to cancel the early primary. Millions wasted for a popularity contest.

They had a primary. It was about a month ago. Santorum won it hands down (55% to Romney's 25% and Paul's 12%).

But it was "non-binding". Now, the Romneys and the Pauls want to thwart the will of the voters.

Unfortunately, I live in Mo... this state is so screwed up; a screwed up voting system (I'll just wait till the General before getting involved); we have Clair McCaskil, a Dem Gov, and the venerable "they spit on me... the Tea Party spit on me"The Rev Cleaver; a KC school district that is so f----- up the state is about to take it over (talk about from bad to worse)... the MO GOP is imbecilic to say the least.
