Turnout for the GOP Primary in Puerto Rico higher than expected. It helps that the local parties are having their own primaries, and you just walk from the local to the GOP primary next door.
As they didn't have many election officials (only one at my voting station), people were voting openly right there at or near the registration desk. I saw a lot of Santorums and Gingrichs, but not a one Romney - the heavily favored PR GOP establishment candidate.
Then others say Santorum won all of the delegates. The MO establishment though is for Romney, led by the talented Jim Talent.
Actually, Ron Paul is probably the biggest anti-Santorum person in the party. Who knows what resentments that man holds?
I would think Romney would get 80 percent or more in Puerto Rico, though it was Gingrich who urged statehood while he was Speaker. People in Puerto Rico vote in blocs.
Looking forward to the updates. Thanks!
We’ve got a bunch of friends from PR and the DR out here. We were chatting up how much we miss decent mofongo, pargo frito and other goodies. We had to make our own empanadas from scratch over the holidays to get decent ones. We’ll head back soon enough but I wish it was still just a 5 minute drive most days - lol!
Everyone, feel free to post your own updates if/as you get any. The Mrs. dragged me to go shopping so I won’t be posting much until late in the afternoon which is when results start coming in anyway.

Is it open or closed (can only registered Repubs vote)?
“All 52 delegates went to Rick Santorium.”
Not correct. Yesterday they only picked the county delegates who will later elect the state delegates that will go to the convention. The process is far from over.
Why?
Missouri was a mess..this is what happened where I live in Barry Co. They didnt go for the candidates but for the delegates. Mass confusion and I blame David Cole. He is state chair but lives in my county.
Confusion On Caucus Night
The first caucus was a messy process. More than 250 people showed up, most planning to vote directly for the candidates. But that was not to be.
David Cole, the chairman of the Missouri Republican Party, told caucusgoers that they would be voting on delegates to attend district and state conventions. Those meetings are weeks from now, where Missouris actual voting delegates will be decided. The delegates picked in this caucus wont be bound to any particular candidate, and they have to be elected in slates.
The county GOP happened to have a slate prepared, as did the Tea Party. But most folks were blindsided by the rules. Cole apologized to the angry crowd that they werent aware of the process.
The confusion is understandable. The rules for these caucuses are different from county to county. Here in Barry County, only party activists had seen them beforehand. Frank Hubert, a robust 80-year-old in a blue blazer and tie, was one of many to stand up and vent.
What we have had happen tonight is totally unacceptable, and it is a de facto railroad job, he said. Bizarre Process Sparks Frustration
As tempers flared, it was clear the room was sharply divided between Tea Party supporters and traditional Republicans. Some likened it the caucus to the US Congress. Ralph Kelley, a retired engineer, backing Newt Gingrich, stepped out for a smoke.
Thank you for updating me as I want to make sure FR is based on facts and yes I learned that...see post 17
“Born and raised here.”
So what’s your take on the statehood referendum that will happen later this year? I keep hearing that most people in PR are against it, but the reasons have never been made very clear.
Yes, that is a great idea. But, Dems will never go for it, since it could hamper their recount chances to steal elections!
Are you bragging or complaining?
You just voted for Mitt Romney so are you really that proud of yourself?
Closed.
What happened? You said a few days ago that Santorum had your vote? Did his comments on English sway you?
How goes the day?
Thank you.
Thanks for the update from sunny Puerto Rico and congratulations on your choice of candidate!
