A U.S. Army officer from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state has been charged with threatening to have his estranged wife and his superior officer killed.
Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said Lt. Col. Robert E. Underwood pleaded not guilty Tuesday to three counts of felony harassment at his Superior Court arraignment in Tacoma. He is being held in the Pierce County Jail.
A Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesman said that Underwood had also made threats to blow up the state Capitol in nearby Olympia.
Serena Kiptoo, identified in court documents as Underwood's girlfriend, told police that Underwood had said he had paid a hit man $150,000 to kill his wife and his boss, Lt. Col. Shawn Reed.

What the heck is going on in that base?
This is Obama’s Army.
Fort Lewis is in the news, yet again.
Seems to be something culturally wrong there. We have a high ranking officer pulling this crap, a Sgt killing 16 in Afghanistan, a murder/suicide at the PX in 2009, and the “Thrill Killings” we had not too long ago. Something is deeply wrong there.
“Something is deeply wrong there.”
I would submit that something is deeply wrong with the leadership, or lack thereof, and it can be traced all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
I was wondering if the alleged leadership in DC might have something in mind where making our military look bad would be politically desirable. I don't think that even Obama would create a story like this out of nothing, but, as we've seen with birth control, the media will blow anything he wants out of proportion.
This will be interesting. It appears the principle charges are from a girlfriend and a wife who has been trying to divorce him for 2 years.
And it appears, he reacted unfavorably when his boss submitted him to involuntary evaluation, presumably psychiatric evaluation. Wonder what sort of reaction they expected from one they believed warranted such evaluation?
The daughter photos could be troubling. Might not they have been in an email he received from his about-to-be-ex, or anyone else for that matter?
The military is also at fault. Too many officers and enlisted look upon the military as a jobs program, many are afraid to do what's right lest they don't get that promotion.
The whole system is rotten from the core on out.
You gotta remember, those bases are right in the middle of enemy territory. Tacoma, Seattle, and the homo region. Tacoma is the Meth capital of the WORLD!!! Rolling labs by the hundreds. Liberals every two steps. Homos every half step. Commies, socialists, the entire enemy gang. We are SSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad to be out of that place!!!
And I agree. When I retired in 1992, I could see this crap becoming more and more in the army. Everyone did everything possible to “get their ticket punched.” Don’t rock the boat, do what you are told, shut your mouth, offer no suggestions, your suggestions / and or opinions are not wanted or needed, keep them to yourself, don’t ask any questions, just do what you are told, gotta kiss butt to make sure that next evaluation report is max so you stay on line for the next promotion. The longer I went in the Army the more and more I saw this crap and got sick of it. When I hit 20, I was done. I was tired of it. I got tired of playing a game. And that is what it was, a game. I could have went on, but I was not going to serve under Carter again (Klinton that is). I loved President Reagan. Bush I was kind of okay. But, I had suffered under Carter and was not going through that crap again. I loved the people, and would give my life for them, but I hated the system, the Army cut throat tactics. Sour grapes, no. I just got tired of the game. That is truly what it became. Do this, do that, no matter what just to make sure you did not screw up that next promotion. You always had to worry about that. One screw up, one bad efficiency report and BOOM, your career is over. They would boot your butt out. I am so glad I retired. I love my county, I love soldiers, Marines, sailors, airmen, but I hate the government and Pentagon. They lied, screwed us in the ground, used us up and spit us out and did not keep the promises made for the future. We loose more and more of them every day and Obama adds more and more costs to us and cuts more every week.
The uniformed leadership (at least in the Service I retired from) now treats it like an “enterprise”. It’s only a job now, and a home for unwed mothers (and single fathers). I could NEVER in good conscience recommend the military as a career to a friend’s kid.
Kiptoo, did the man have a amish girlfriend.
Our admirals and generals ought to be court martialed. Too many deployments will kill a marriage and a family. That’s why this 11 year war is awful. Go in big and win and come home. Every admiral and general from the past 15 years should have their retirement pay eliminated.
His girlfriend turned him after finding out she was on the list, too.
Along with blowing up the state capitol building.
There was also the drug overdose death of an underage young girl, a townee, who was smuggled into the barracks.
