Romney, Santorum camps at odds over delegate math (Mitt's Voodoo Math)
CNN ^ | March 7, 2012

Posted on 03/07/2012 11:48:35 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

In a memo to reporters, Romney Political Director Rich Beeson laid out his camp's view that neither Santorum nor any of the other candidates in the race has any chance of securing enough delegates to secure the Republican nomination......

"Super Tuesday dramatically reduced the likelihood that any of Governor Romney's opponents can obtain the Republican nomination," Beeson wrote. "As Governor Romney's opponents attempt to ignore the basic principles of math, the only person's odds of winning they are increasing are President Obama's."

Beeson cited Romney's current lead in delegates and a tough upcoming primary and caucus calendar as examples of the tough road ahead for Romney's rivals. CNN currently estimates Romney to have won 404 delegates, well ahead of Santorum at 165, Newt Gingrich with 106 and Ron Paul with 66. A candidate needs 1,144 delegates to seal up the GOP nomination.

"Neither opponent succeeded in closing his delegate deficit, and the calendar ahead offers them dwindling opportunities to close the gap," Beeson wrote. "Looking at the weeks ahead, the remaining 34 contests have turned into a steep uphill climb for Governor Romney's opponents."

But, speaking to CNN, Santorum campaign adviser John Brabender brushed off the Romney campaign's analysis as "voodoo math," saying the figures were meant to dissuade voters from casting ballots for rival candidates.

"What he is saying he wants to do is disenfranchise Republican primary voters," Brabender said, pointing out that many of the delegates currently awarded to Romney in estimates were non-binding.

"What Romney is trying to do is call the game before it's even halftime because he has a lead," Brabender said.

He asserted conservatives shouldn't let a "moderate" dictate the winner of the Republican primary.

FL is my state and trust me half of those delegates should have gone to Newt but Romney is stealing all of them and the establishment is breaking their own rules.

Excellent, Jeff.

Bottom line is that Newt should step down now. There are influential people talking with him now but so far, he won’t budge,,saying he will get out if he loses Mississippi and Alabama. But this is faulty reasoning as a split vote in those states won’t help Santorum, who needs to win them.

Newt can be either a spoiler or a kingmaker.
There’s a place for him in the administration..Press secretary to an ambassadorship are two suggestions.

I think he's make a great National Security Advisor, or even SecDef. He is extremely knowledgable on Security and Defense issues.

Anyhow, that is the type of thing they must do and then they must both come out announcing it and then working for it together so they combine the groups as completely as possible.

Saw Rove on Fox this morning. He was talking about Florida as "winner take all," which is of course contrary to Republican Party rules. Is it true as long as "we" keep getting away with it?

We need to get on Fox' case for holding that Romney's total is a matter of undisputed fact.

There is an excellent article in the WSJ today by Daniel Henninger. Henninger gets it, he likes Santorum.

Santorum and Freedom

What Mr. Santorum has discovered in this campaign is that for a large number of voters, a connection has surfaced between Barack Obama's economic policies and the issue of personal freedom. The potency of the latter is what's new, and a vulnerability for this( Obama's) presidency.

I’m just astounded as to why they are NOT doing this. I know the Santo people are trying.

This effort to stop Romney must be done.

How are you feeling, Jeff?
I was one of your “angels” and still am.

Thanks, Mary. God bless you and yours for your faith and prayers on our behalf.

I try and lkeep up on my condition on my:

Chordoma Cancer Journal on my Site
http://www.jeffhead.com/chordoma.htm

Basically, I have leveled off on my recovery and rehab now. I am physically about as good as I can be with a couple of pounds of titanium supporting what is left of my lower back and pelvic area after they cut all of that bone cancer out.

I am walking without a cane, though I am not super steady on my feet and just have to be careful.

I have life-long disabilities with bladder and bowel management due to nerve damage associated with getting the bone cancer out which also took out numerous nerve roots...but they taught me well and I am getting along fine with my diet and regiment in that area.

And, so far, no new cancer! Hard to believe it has been two years since the surgeries starting in April. We go back to MD Anderson in Hoston in September for our next big check up.

The Lord’s hand has been in it. He has blessed Gail and I richly, and through our travail, and faith, and our witness, blessed many others either suffering similarly, having loved ones or friends who are, are who wonder about what they would do in their future should they be so diagnosed.

I am grateful He has allowed me to linger here on earth to ne with, provide for, and influence my family and kids and grandkids, to witness His name and that of His Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ, and to continue to try and influence and help our nation whenever and wherever I can for the good.

Thanks for asking.

I assure you that the liberal elites in the Republicrat party will steal this for Mitt Rockefeller. They doing this with “Winner Take ALL “ primaries which disenfranchise 70% of the good faith voters in state primaries and should be banned in every state. Why should a candidate not receive the percentage of total delagates that he got to the percentage of republican voters????HuMMMMMMMMM?

Saul Anuzis is our former GOP chair in Michigan and Mitt supporter. He’s also pushing the national popular vote. His vote to screw Santorum also proves why the national popular vote is a bad idea.

Thanks for the link to the numbers. I keep looking for accurate numbers, and wish they would include delegate numbers that are bound to the particular candidate and those who are not and therefor up for grabs.

For those who may have missed the Presidential Candidate Forum this evening, here is the link.
