Lew: Obama's latest stance on birth-control mandate final, puts issue to rest
By Mike Lillis - 02/12/12 10:38 AM ET

President Obama's new birth-control stance should put to rest the controversy over employer-sponsored contraception coverage, a top administration official said Sunday.

White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew said Obama's new plan, unveiled Friday, effectively addresses "the core issue" of simultaneously ensuring religious freedom and women's access to healthcare.

"It does not force an institution that has religious principle to offer or pay for benefits that they find objectionable, but it guarantees a women's right to access. We think that's the right solution," Lew said on Fox News Sunday.

"Hopefully now this will set the issue to rest."

Asked if the policy is final, Lew was terse.

"Our policy is clear," he said. "We have set out our policy."

Obama stirred a hornet's nest this month when he announced new rules requiring all insurance plans – even those offered by Catholic hospitals, universities and charities – to cover birth control regardless of their religious convictions.

Faced with an outcry from the Catholic Church, Republicans and even some Democrats, Obama on Friday tweaked the plan so that female employees retain free access to contraceptives, but the cost is covered by insurance companies rather than faith-based employers who object.

Lew said the change makes sense economically as well, because insurers will pay less for contraception than they would for a pregnancy.

"It actually does not cost the insurance company money to do it," Lew said.

The remarks will likely do little to appease Republicans, who are eying legislation to repeal Obama's birth-control mandate.

We all owe the Kenyan usurper a debt of gratitude for removing his mask BEFORE the election.

That's the part I can't figure. My best guess is that he couldn't bear the thought of being contradicted by a bunch of superstitious, almost-dead white men. So he dug in.

We are not alone in that fight. We have tremendous power on our side. Will it take time? Yes. Will it be easy? NO. Will we win? YES!

Are you aware of this:

“In response to the infringement of religious liberty by the Obama administration, The Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia, who founded and run Aquinas College in Nashville, have called for nine days of prayer and fasting to ask Our Lady to intercede for this country on behalf of religious liberty.”

We will also request the intercession of the Communion of Saints!

;-))))))))))))

Oh, I'm sure they're hoping it gets dropped, but I don't think that's gonna happen. Frankly, I'm hoping it's the straw that broke the camel's back, as they say, and causes the Catholics who voted for him last time around to think twice, and maybe three times, before they make THAT mistake again!

Why the hell isn’t anybody in congress standing up and screaming from the tops of their lungs, “What the MF are you doing Mr President, you can’t just make a proclamation one day and say its the law, then the next day say, ‘never mind, THIS is the new law’” If someone doesn’t stand up publicly and vociferously, to condemn this and threaten impeachment, then the whole of congress is implicated in trashing the constitution... Just GD, I freaking mad...

I just got home from a healing service at our Catholic church. Chalk one more priest up on the anti-Obama chart. A retired priest in our diocese was at the dinner fillowing the prayer service and a discussion came up with one of our parishioners who is a staunch Catholic and GOPer. The priest was in full agreement about how bad the situation is currently and he seemed certain that the church will stand firm. He really does not like Obama.

I loved when the little weasel was on FNS this morning bragging about how a total medical insurance package, on the whole, is less expensive with contraceptives coverage than without. When Chris tried to get him to explain it, he just repeated himself. What he wasn't saying is that it's more expensive if you catch the 'disease' of pregnancy. Well, duh! If your health care has to cover prenatal care, a birth, and pediatric care, then you have to carry your 'products of conception' on your policy until he or she is 26 (by mandate of Obamacare!!!), then hell yes, the contraceptives are cheaper!

I just wonder what coercion there will be in the future for couples who actually want kids. How will they be pressured out of having families for the good of our society, or the planet, or some other such nonsense? We have to get rid of this administration, or America is over.
