Rick Santorum has backtracked from his 2008 endorsement of Mitt Romney by saying he was for anyone put McCain. But in this 2008 interview with Laura Ingraham Santorum praised Romney at great length contradicting some of what he says today. In the interview, Santorum calls Romney a true conservative and says he is someone we can trust.

Newt is a visionary, and was my hero back when the we took back the house after 40 years.
But, I see him losing the female vote badly should he be our nominee. He is damaged goods, and IMO has almost no chance against Obama.
Rick has a chance, and is our best option.
Wow. The Newt supporters sure are terrified by Santorum since their dream candidate has lost every primary but SC.
BTW, Newt is not a Conservative, he just talks like one to get elected. And he still has more baggage than the cargo hold on the Costa Concordia.
Santorum didn’t say he was holding his nose and supporting Romney or that Romney was the lesser of the evils. He said that Romney was a “true conservative.”
Santorum was either duped or he lied. There are two types of people who were duped by Romney in ‘08. Those of us who are man enough to admit it, and Santorum, who isn’t.
So what? Santorum endorsed pro-abortion liberal Arlen Specter over conservative pro-life Pat Toomey in 2006. It wasnt the first time he endorsed Specter - Santorum also endorsed Arlen Specter early in his 1996 Presidential run.

In other words, you can’t defend your support of Santorum.
You see? I told you so..........you really can’t.
And your little, cheap shot, personal attack is quite humorous. Especially the part where you called me a “little boy”.
Mouthing childish threats from behind your keyboard is not what I would call “manly” mature behavior. Especially towards someone who risked his life in combat to give you the right to do so.
Come on, man!
How can you make a recommendation and say, "I'm holding my nose"?
Just not going to waste my time with mittbots.
In their mad scramble to pick the “perfect conservative”, Romney slips in through the back door like McCain did.
The MSM will disassemble Santorum like a dime store toy. And the Obama machine can't believe their stroke of luck, in this latest panic driven turn in the GOP primary.
I’ve never made any secret of my presidential preferences. I supported Sarah Palin for president from the time of the 2008 election until she announced that she wasn’t not going to run nearly 3 years later.
After her Oct. 5 announcement, I spent nearly two weeks researching and comparing the records of all the GOP candidates who were in the race at the time. My conclusion was that Newt, for all his negatives, was still the only Reagan conservative of the bunch, and I’ve been supporting him ever since.
I rejected Santorum on the basis of his love for earmarks and other unchecked federal spending, as well as his rejection of the principle of liberty guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
If you can’t defend your advocacy of Santorum, it doesn’t matter whether you have to defend it to a Mittwit, a Ronulan or a Newtonian. You can either defend it or you can’t. Saying you don’t want to is just a cop out.
President Bush personally asked Santorum to endorse Specter, in exchange for Specter promising to push through Roberts and Alito. How many Republicans asked Newt to endorse Scozzafava? And Pat Toomey was one of only 8 Republicans to vote to repeal DADT - joining Snowe and Collins. Some "conservative".
We now know that the author of this article, Andrew Kaczynski, is part of the Romney Slime machine. They will do anything to start a conservative buzz questioning anything about one of their opponents.
And so far conservatives have been blind enough to buy it. They thought it was the other 7 candidates attacking each other...but it turns out that much of it was either egged on by Romney or originated with him overtly or covertly.
Now we know how he operates.
Was it accidental that the ABC interview with a Gingrich ex-wife happened just before a primary in which Romney only true opponent was Gingrich? Was it coincidence that there was a connection between the Cain bimbo charges and Romney?
Was no McCain advocate either; but he did recognize the evil in Putin; whereas, GW either did not; or thought better to not speak of it publicly. Instead; President Bush saw 'kind eyes'? Or offered somesuch/similar; disconnection with reality when it came to what we know was and still is; 'evil walking'.
Exactly right. And if Santorum can change his mind and change his views from the past, Romney will use the same argument about himself. Santorum supported Specter who supported obamacare. At this point, Newt is probably our best shot unless someone else jumps in at a brokered convention.
She is a great woman in regards to her personal life, but just not a good political candidate in my opinion. But this is all history and no longer matters. This latest Lemming stampede to Santorum is what is most troubling. For those of us who do the research, and know the details, are left puzzled as to why these blind Santorum supporters are so easily swayed.
What would Putin do to a President Gingrich? Bada Bing
Let’s look past his rather lame remarks on the conversion by campaign fire of Mitt Romney...
to his comments on Huckabee.
Santorum says Huckabee is a great conservative but — but he’s weak on national defense. If he were running for governor of the US, Rick says, that’d be fine, but not president. Say what? Does this mean Rick’s comfortable with Huck’s domestic and social agenda?
I continue to have my doubts about Rick Santorum, but then, I do not agree with him that people grow up fast on the campaign trail.
