A German pensioner who had kept a tub of lard in his cupboard for 64 years, took it to authorities who pronounced it very much fit for consumption -- if a little tasteless.
Retired chemist Hans Feldmeier, 87, told AFP he had received the pig fat as a student in 1948 near the northern city of Rostock as part of the post-war US aid programme.

Mine did too. Kept it in an old coffee can on the stove.

I travel to Mexico frequently and the food is SO good there. Part of the reason is they use old-fashioned lard (like our parents did).
The other reason Mexican food in Mexico is so good is that they don’t drown their food in salsa — that is distinctly NorteAmericano. They spice wisely and also use open flame wood cooking (also a no-no here).

On the rare occasions I go to town and (shudder) Walmart, I usually see several 64-ish tubs of lard waddling around....
Doubt if they’re edible, though.
