Santorum rips Romney over Romneycare
Something that has been lacking for the most part in past debates is exposing Romneys continued support for RomneyCare. And Santorum does that quite well here as he casts Romney as untrustworthy. He also goes after Newts past position on Health Care, but the RomneyCare portion was most effective in my opinion.
can you point to where Gingrich told Santorum to leave the race?.. if you can’t then everyone has lost faith in you telling the truth
I write about Santorum’s SOPA position, vote against right to work, and his massive earmarks, and it is ME that needs to “ do some research”?
Yeah. Sure. I’ll get right on that... /s
First you need to answer the question I asked you:
“OK, now its YOUR TURN. Care to tell me why Newt endorsed Dede Scozzavave?”
I guess I’ll have to do your research for you, because you only look for half-truths to help your cause (whatever your cause is).
First of all, ear marks are constitutional; Secondly, like all people, including Newt, Santorum is not perfect, but take a look at this:
SANTORUM
He was a lead Senate author and floor manager of the 1996 welfare reform act, ..
from http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/282738/why-not-santorum-quin-hillyer?page=0
While in the House, he played a key role in uncovering the House bank scandal. In the Senate, he crusaded for a balanced budget amendment..
has proposed five trillion dolars in spending cuts over five years, a balanced budget in five years, Santorum said over the phone before going on to point to his emphasis on entitlement reform, rebuking those who have questioned his fiscal conservatism.
I dont care about Newt, really. I dont see a difference in how a Newt, Santorum, or Romney Administration will govern. I think they all have the big government itch, just in different areas of the body.
My comment was more on Santorum complaining that Newt and Mitt like the government paying for healthcare, when he himself supported that. It just doesnt seem like a smart thing to bring up.
I’m sorry you missed the point here but Newt Gingrich wasn’t the person up there last night posturing he was the only Conservative left on the stage.. that would be Santorum.. and since there are already numerous posts up to 2 pages long of Santorum’s records of him leaving his Conservative credentials at the door that makes him a hypocrite ...ie the stone tosser who lives in a glass house
there was only one man on that stage last night who actually led a successful national Conservative crusade in this country and it wasn’t Spectorum or Romney.. those two aren’t even in the same universe
btw if you want to equate Dee Dee Scozz with a sitting US Senator endorsing Arlen Specter then you do have some issues with reality.. with lot’s of political and personal help from Rick Santorum his pro abortionist daddy Arlen Specter was elected and ended up leaving the Republican party to became Obama’s favorite senator for the passage of the worst piece of legislation in our lifetime... Obamacare
hardly the only steady Conservative on that stage last night like he described himself.. oh and the part where he said vote for me I have a history of winning?.. I couldn’t hold the laughter in anymore.. maybe he forgot as an incumbent Senator he lost reelection by 18 points to a moron in part because he stabbed the Conservatives in his own state in the back and they didn’t forget it
I could support either one, honestly. Perhaps, however, it would serve the nation if they joined causes. I prefer Newt/Rick but whatever it takes.
First of all, ear marks are constitutional;
I'm capable of doing my own research, thank you.
My research tells me that a lot of things are "constitutional". but I will not support a candidate who engages in them, and then claims to be a conservative.
According to the SCOTUS, abortion is "constitutional". Nice.
While Medicare D is bad, helping seniors is nothing compared to Romneycare, or Obamacare, or any govt. mandate to force us to buy health insurance.
Santorum WON 4 races out of 5. Reagan won in a landslide after losing.
People accuse Santorum of being GOP establishment, but his reasons were to control the courts.
It was Gingrich, who I also like, who was GOP establishment, UNLESS you can show me Newt’s logic which you cannot.
I did show you Rick Santorum’s reason in my previous post, and here’s a bit more on it from a CONSERVATIVE source:
“Specter won with 53% of the votes over his opponent with 42%. Toomey and Santorum are staunch Catholic Christians, vigorously pro-life and the Commonwealth would be well served by having both in the Senate. Unfortunately, the politics at the time of the 2004 were precarious enough that a Toomey campaign against Hoeffel would not be as certain as a Specter vs. Hoeffel match, or so Rick Santorum and others believed.”
excerpt http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/abbott/061018
Some don’t realize how important controlling the Judicial Committe is. When Dems control it, they don’t allow good conservatives to even make it to the floor for an up or down vote, especially if they are minority conservatives, like Estrada.
RICK SANTORUM UNDERSTANDS THIS. RICK SANTORUM IS A WISE MAN.
“I could support either one, honestly.”
I could, as well, but after doing tons of research, I feel that Rick Santorum has better instincts, is more conservative, and as Mark Levin said, Santorum has terrific character and integrity.
Levin said he would vote for Santorum, if he could, but he also likes Newt, and so do I.
Earmarks are in the original Constitution, unlike abortion.
Speaking of which:
SANTORUM
“On abortion, he is one of many senators who vote pro-life. The difference is that he is personally responsible for making sure a lot of these votes occur in the first place: He was an architect of the effort to ban partial-birth abortion, a strategy that energized the pro-life movement and allowed it to go on the political offensive.”

As long as we beat romney, and I can see the shocked look on his face as he announces withdrawal, I'll be happy to see either Newt or Rick win it - lol!
I’m sorry to hear that. If Newt is the nominee he will personally fire up the democrat machine, just by mention of his name. Santorum will not have this same effect, but can beat Obama both electorally and intellectually. There are so many reasons not to vote for Newt, but people will not force themselves to look at this with an open mind.
Santorum is right about SOPA. Go back and read the transcript. He explained the right to work, and he has explained ear marks. Amazing that people “forgive” Newt for his many varied crazy things, but “Death to Santorum!” Really????
In South Carolina, there is a choice between a clearly moral man -Santorum- and a man who has consistently behaved immorally -Newt- until recently, coincidentally when he also wanted to run for the Presidency.
I wonder what Solomon would say about this choice facing conservatives? After all, don’t we pride ourselves on having more wisdom than our liberal opponents?
Also amusing to me was the recent Sun Tzu interest at FR. What would Sun Tzu do in this situation? It is a sure bet Newt would not be his choice.
I keep thinking of last Sunday when Sen. Lindsey Graham seemed so sure that Romney would win SC, and Graham said, it could be the first time any candidate won the first three races in the primaries.
Then come to find out, Rick Santorum actually won in Iowa, and Newt wins SC, so his buddy Romney only won one race. To say Sen. Graham spoke too soon is an UNDERSTATEMENT! ROFL!!!!
THIS RACE IS WIDE OPEN!
Mark Levin said that Rick Santorum was one of the most conservative senators in the past 50 years, and very principled.
But yet when Santorum makes a mistake, some people can never forgive, but another politician can make an equally bad mistake, but it just goes over their heads.
And even when Santorum doesn’t do anything wrong, if he is accused of getting something wrong, SOME people have this knee-jerk reaction, and don’t even care about Santorum’s side of the story.
Go figure.
Hey, Sun. I just finished posting to another FReeper who jumped me because I dared to thank a South Carolina voter for choosing Rick Santorum. I love your tag line. Prayer is really needed. But, after reading some of the hateful attacks spewing from the Newt supporters to anyone who dares say they prefer Santorum because he lives what he says, I am beginning to think there actually is not hope for America.
Honor and Integrity used to be the hallmarks of this country. The Newt supporters are convincing themselves that because *in this moment* Newt is behaving with honor and integrity, that he will always behave that way, even though his past, including his recent past, says otherwise.
I don’t dislike Newt. I dislike all the things he’s done in the past. I don’t trust him.
I am not a Romney supporter, and will not vote for him, no matter what, but, Newt was wrong on Bain and Perry went down, because he jumped in on it with both feet. Santorum, again, showed wisdom and hung back and assessed. As a result, he survived to play another day.
Newt is a “smooth operator”, a strategist, and he is intelligent. People in battle with him, underestimate him. I don’t. But that is not what I want to represent me and my family. I want honor and integrity with a firm reliance on Divine Providence. That is why I am voting for Santorum.
Don’t give up, just keep presenting the truth, as you do. Even if you don’t convince the poster you are debatting with, you might convince someone else. Not everyone has a closed mind.
I think Newt would be a good president, but Rick Santorum would be a GREAT president.
It was good to see the libs’ attack on Newt backfire, but I have a huge worry. When Herman Cain was first accused WITHOUT EVIDENCE, he raised a ton of money, so those accusations backfired at his accusers AT THE TIME. Then they had more women come out of the woodwork, and it got so bad that Cain had to pull out, as he couldn’t even get his message out.
Besides what Newt has actually done, and he says he is sorry for those deeds, they could also have fake women come out and say things about him, and it could also drive him out of the race.
IF that were to happen, and Santorum dropped out, we’d be stuck with Romney.
I don’t understand why anyone thinks Santorum should drop out anyway. EACH of the three front runners won a race!
True. And I saw in another thread of electoral tallies, Santorum is in double digits with Romney and Newt. So, it is still anyone’s game.
Florida is going to be ugly. Newt will have everything but the kitchen sink thrown at him! I dread it really. It’s all so icky. Oh well.
Thanks for the encouraging words! :-) You hang in there, too!
Thanks, and let’s keep praying!
Today (Sunday, ET) is the 39th sad Roe v. Wade anniversary, so I will pray even more than I already do, for the protection of the unborn.
