If elected in November, Love would be the first black Republican woman in Congress and Utah's first black representative. She said she would join the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C., should she win.
"Yes, yes. I would join the Congressional Black Caucus and try to take that thing apart from the inside out," she said.

I doubt that will happen quickly, given the entrenched support for this sacred cow, and West certainly won't be able to yield much influence single-handedly. I think that's why it's so important to support this lady, and others like her. As their ranks grow, they might be able to reconfigure its form, and refocus its vision.
Frankly, I don't think ethnic or racial caucuses should exist in today's world, but it's not realistic to expect their disappearance anytime soon.

SunkenCiv, is that the Mia Love ping list?
If so, please add me! Count me as a Love supporter!

Here is the 64 dollar question. If Democrat Matheson has to run in this new 4th district, is this district populated with more conservatives than his old 2nd district, where he has been re-elected several times? Does anyone know?

Hate created the Congressional Black Caucus, so it is only fitting that love will tear it apart.

I hope she succeeds. If she wins, she has a great future.
As for the Congressional Black Caucus, I remember one saying its name should be changed to the Congressional Red Caucus, but that was before Red meant conservative Republican. Ugh!

I haven’t seen demographic info for the new UT CDs, but Impy found the presidential voting stats, which he posted here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-gop/2816441/posts?page=18#18
The UT-04 gave McCain 56% in 2008 and gave President Bush 66% in 2004. The presidential vote results are almost identical to those of Matheson’s current CD (57% for McCain, 66% for Bush). And I believe that most of the voters are new to Matheson.
Matheson’s CD was one of 16 to give President Bush 60%+ in 2004 yet elect a Democrat to the House in 2008 (AL-02, AL-05, GA-03, ID-01, IN-08, MD-01, MS-01, MS-04, MO-04, ND-AL, PA-10, SD-AL, TN-06, TX-17 and VA-09), but the only one not to elect a Republican in 2010. I hope that we can finish the job in 2012.

It has already happened.
I don’t remember his name. but a white Democrat representing a majority black district in the south tried to join the CBC.
He was turned down.
If I can find the details, I will follow up.

They might not let her join. Racist pigs like Jim Clyburn have standards y'know.
To: KC_Lion; Allon
AFAIK, there's no Mia Love ping list.
Up there is a ping to an entirely wild, heavily over-pinged, general-purpose list, no focus at all, and you could join it, but you'd probably regret the level of activity you've entered. :')

Steve Cohen of Tennessee.
And the CBC didn’t just say no to him, Clyburn basically humiliated him for even asking. I actually felt sorry for the bastard.

FIrst off, shes a Mormon, shes black and shes female, and shes a staunch conservative. I think the state will vote for her to make a statement against certain perceptions out there. There are bigger national implications than just a House seat in Utah.IOW, the "bottom line" reason Mormons do things today is simple PR.
(Wow...what a way to operate collective life)
I think of Weird Al's parody, "It's all about the Pentium." For Mormons these days, it's all about us and our image.
