New Poll: Gingrich Attack Ads Against Romney Working in SC
National Review - The Corner ^ | 1-12-2012 | Maggie Gallagher

Posted on 01/12/2012 8:14:11 PM PST by TitansAFC

Instead of getting a bounce, Romney’s poll numbers are sinking in South Carolina. As I suggested, this ad attack is powerful. He’s followed it up by painting him as governing pro-abortion. Krauthammer is right — Romney’s got to show he can respond.

If these attacks work in a Republican primary, imagine how effective Obama will find them in November.

BTW, no signs yet that the negative ads are hurting Gingrich, either.

"This is why Team Romney and the GOP Establishment want Newt to shut up!"

Exactly. I'm still keeping an open mind (aka, unlike some of the posters here and elsewhere, I am not wedded or have an emotional bond to any candidate). But when I see Krauthammer, Rove, and Hume (who has unpleasantly surprised me of late) practically have orgasms with Mitt's results in New Hampshire, and talking down the other candidates, I am more apt to stick a proverbial hot poker in their smug faces.

You can take Krauthammer off that list.

He’s changed his tune.

A few friends in SC tell me they are seeing mostly Newt ads comparing him to Romney, focusing on abortion, guns, taxes

This is a sign. It means Newt is doing more than fine.

The Romney people were already downplaying SC today. I think they know they're toast. I'm just hoping it's extra crispy.

Gingrich has 11 days between the New Hampshire Primary and South Carolina Primary to hammer away at Romney. It will likely take Romney down in SC.

Why, because trying to find bipartisan solutions is tremendously unpopular with independent voters who hate the fact that Congress doesn’t work better together? It doesn’t seem that you understand who votes in a general election.

“The nominee will be Romney and Gingrich is giving the Dems their plan of attack.”

You are kidding aren't you? Teddy Kennedy used this same issue to beat Mittens years ago in the run for the Senate. Kennedy had really good short ads that were 100% better than this half hour weep fest.

This current video was made by a guy that helped Romney make ads in 2008. The super pac purchased it, and if they had not Huntsman was going to.

What you should be angry about is that the GOP E has been keeping this hidden from the primary voters hoping to sell them on mittens being the most electable. The Dems have been licking their chops waiting for the chance to slaughter Romney with this info.

I don't think Romney can possibly win against Obama, unless he can convincingly answer questions about his RECORD on JOB CREATION which HE put front and center of his campaign. You would think he would have been ready to respond immediately, since he's had years to prepare. I am also glad it came to light now while we still have a chance to get a different nominee.

"The nominee will be Romney and Gingrich is giving the Dems their plan of attack."

You may have forgotten that most of the GOP candidates in 08 gave the Dems the same game plan. Odd that Mitt hasn't developed an answer yet. Of course it's only been 4 years....

Don't forget the two-faced flip flopper angle. It's a matter of trust, or mistrust, which will I think be the perfect overall linking theme in an anti-Romney campaign. Anyway, just so everyone who thinks Romney is electable knows, I'll be sending any of my ideas to any future anti-Romney SuperPACs free of charge if he's the nominee. The public has a right to know all the facts on Mr. Electable. And the Republican party has a duty to not have its brand-name tainted on a national level by a heartless far-left liberal Wall Street crony capitalist if it wants to succeed at anything conservative in the long run.

Yeah, sure. Just ignore the man behind the curtain. I am the great and powerful Rom! Romney has a nice veneer - a mile wide and a quarter inch thick. He is vulnerable because he can’t consolidate the Republican base. All this complaining about Newt is the best thing that Romney could ever hope for. It is Romney’s problem that he is viewed as an ivory tower elitist who doesn’t relate to the wide majority of our base. It’s Romney’s problem that he had one unimpressive term as a moderate governor of a liberal state.

Let’s see if he can fight. We know Newt can fight. We have the results of his term as Speaker and the enormous economic expansion that occurred after he forced Clinton into Triangulation. If Romney can’t convince his own base, how do you expect his story to win in the general election?

No, that's already been planned by the Dems. See the post right above yours.

"I’m not really sure why Newt took this tack at this time. I think he could make more hay with the list I posted, especially in SC."

Now that is a very good point. Just guessing, SC is open primary and Newt's best shot?
