Rash of Arson Fires Continues, Spreads across Wider Area
LA Times ^ | 12/1/12 | Andrew Blankstein, David Zahniser and Joe Mozingo

A rash of arson fires in the dark of night set Los Angeles on edge over New Year's Eve, and authorities deployed hundreds of extra firefighters, patrol cars, undercover officers and helicopters to stop the attacks.

On Saturday night, firefighters rushed to multiple fires, quickly extinguishing a vehicle fire in a Hollywood carport and responding to another in the massive parking structure at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue.

Extra firefighters were reporting to stations across Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Burbank and Glendale, while investigators set up a telephone hotline, interviewed witnesses and ran down tips.

Officials announced at least $35,000 in rewards for information leading to a conviction in the case.

Those blazes followed at least 38 other suspicious fires between Thursday night and Saturday morning, making it the worst wave of arson since the 1992 riots.

"Whoever is doing this is really messing with people's lives," said Los Angeles Fire Capt. Jamie Moore.

Most of the blazes were started on automobiles, but some spread to homes and apartments. The attacks ranged from the Westside to Hollywood and from the San Fernando Valley south to Lennox.

By Saturday night, the Los Angeles police and fire departments were leading a multi-agency campaign across the county.

ACORN's list of things to gain experience with --

1) Flash mobs to rob stores in broad daylight -- CHECK!
2) "Leaderless" urban occupation movements in multiple cities -- CHECK!
3) Widespread disruptive arson attacks over a broad area -- CHECK!

4) Random killings of people in a designated area over a period of weeks -- IN PROGRESS

The last is pure speculation on my part, but the Left has got property theft, social disruption, and property damage down pat by now. The only thing I'm not seeing is "random" loss of life. I think we'll see that in 2012.

Would be racist to put out a profile of the arsonist.

I don’t have TV - what is the level of media coverage of the LA car arson situation, which has been going on for two or three days, now...

Compare and contrast with the hand-wringing coverage of recent car arson outbreaks in Paris and London??

Are we being lied to by omission???

In the 10 years we’ve been armed in Michigan, the Detroit fire sprees have become mostly a thing of the past.

“Would be racist to put out a profile of the arsonist.”

If you were to look at a colorful map, you would see the involved ares are predominately brown and white. Jumped from almost exclusively Latino city of Lennox OVER Rosa Parks and MLK Blvd, involved mixed but heavily Jewish Fairfax area and over to mixed but very Jewish and other white westside and San Fernando valley areas. I’m pretty sure of the geography, although haven’t really looked at demographic charts...maybe it’s changed recently, but I dunno...

It seemed a bit quieter last night compared with Friday night in terms of helicopters overhead. I’m right in Hollyweird.

(Only 25 people asked SC agency for free rides to get photo ID)

On the other hand, SEIU & ACORN are extremely well organized for the re-election of Obama and will do what ever it takes to upset the voting process if it helps them....arson maybe one of their................

a few years ago there were cars set on fire at auto dealerships in Southern California. It turned out that the culprits were environmentalist global warmer types.

It;s early in the investigation, but...

Nobody seems to be pointing at E.L.F. (earth liberation front). They were always big on burning cars in California a few years ago.

"The only thing I'm not seeing is "random" loss of life. I think we'll see that in 2012."

Has already happened. Remember the "Beltway Snipers" in the Washington D.C. area?
You're correct.
I think we'll see this sort business again in the future.
