ATHENS, Texas, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- A crowd of more than 5,000 people gathered in Athens, Texas, in support of a nativity scene on display at the Henderson County Courthouse.

"We are seeing unfold before our very eyes, the beginning of persecution of Christianity in our nation," First Baptist Church Malakoff Pastor Nathan Lorick said at the rally Saturday. "It seems it is no longer acceptable to express and exhibit the doctrines of our faith in the nation that was founded upon those same doctrines. That is why thousands are here today."

The rally came after Freedom From Religion Foundation in Madison, Wis., sent a letter to county officials Dec. 1 that was written on behalf of a citizen who objected to the display on the grounds that it violates a U.S. Supreme Court decision, The Athens Review reported.

Unless those thousands are prepared to physically defend the nativity scene, then being there will be useless.

thanks for posting this.

WE may not poop as a protest but we will VOTE

I just drove from DC back to Texas. 0dumbo has zero idea of what real people out here if flyover country think of him.

He will still get most of the black vote but even that won’t be as high a % as he got when he scammed all the obamite voters in 08

Frankly, I'm not convinced it can stop there. I think it may call for those thousands to march to the oppressor's house and beat the snot out of him/her. Then proceed to the offices of the ACLU or FFRF or whatever group is fronting this nonsense and trash the place. Send the message that we will not be parties to our own demise.

Of course, that would be breaking the law and we can't do that ...

In the end, the atheists and other anti-Christian groups are merely manufacturing a massive Christian resurgence.

Every attempt to destroy Christianity from the Romans on, has failed. New attempts will meet the same fate.

You ever notice how the Atheist that the suit is allegedly
filed on “behalf of” is never named in these things.

True bravery and a definite courage of their convictions.. LOL...

Unfortunately Christianity was nearly eradicated in northern Africa, Egypt, the Middle East and Turkey. It can happen. Persecution regenerates Christianity most places, but under Islam, how do you resurge?

Well, it’s at least a start. But I agree I’d prefer to see 5000 protesters with loaded rifles in their hands... and ready to use them.

Christianity was nearly eradicated

Key word there...nearly.

Don't underestimate the power of God combined with the American spirit. We won't go down without a fight.

In fact,we won't go down...period.

True it might be against the law (just like the American revolution was against the law) but Violence, intimidation, and mayhem works wonders. It wouldn't take much to make the FFR crowd, and the ACLU see the light. The idea of a group of angry, violent soccer thugs storming the ACLU headquarters makes me feel all warm and fuzzy... But it won't happen, because like you pointed out, it would be in breach of the law.

Perhaps it’s time for Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus and Three Wise Men to Occupy the Henderson County Courthouse. A Manger instead of a tent; Ass and Ox; Some Shepherds; and Multitude of the Heavenly Host to sing.

In this particular case the Texas AG has promised to defend the town if the atheist group files a lawsuit.
Frankly I hope they do. It will waste their money. I’d love to see it go all the way to the Supreme court.
There is no such thing as freedom from religion without denying the right of free expression to every other American.
What will these people demand next? Freedom from religion would mean churches must remove steeples and crosses, arched windows and signs. Taken to extreme it would mean no Christmas lights or trees, anywhere.
Freedom from religion would mean I cannot wear a cross, or read a Bible in public.

The right to freedom from religion does not exist.

Well it doesn’t publicly. In the regions you address, there may be more Christian influence than we know. I’m not trying to make the case that it is significant by any means.

My initial comments were directed at the United States, and the blatant attempt to silence it here.

I think the atheists are pushing so hard, there is going to be a big rebound at some point in the not too distant future.
