Unless those thousands are prepared to physically defend the nativity scene Frankly, I'm not convinced it can stop there. I think it may call for those thousands to march to the oppressor's house and beat the snot out of him/her. Then proceed to the offices of the ACLU or FFRF or whatever group is fronting this nonsense and trash the place. Send the message that we will not be parties to our own demise.
Of course, that would be breaking the law and we can't do that ...

True it might be against the law (just like the American revolution was against the law) but Violence, intimidation, and mayhem works wonders. It wouldn't take much to make the FFR crowd, and the ACLU see the light. The idea of a group of angry, violent soccer thugs storming the ACLU headquarters makes me feel all warm and fuzzy... But it won't happen, because like you pointed out, it would be in breach of the law.
