NEW YORK, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The rise of New Gingrich has turned the Republican presidential race into a two-man affair, but a third of GOP voters say they're still undecided, a poll finds.
A Harris poll released Friday indicated with Republicans Sarah Palin, Michele Bachman, Rick Perry and Herman Cain effectively out of the presidential running, the primary has turned into a contest between former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Gingrich.
The survey indicates if it stayed a two-man race, 40 percent of Republicans would vote for Gingrich and 30 percent for Romney, with 30 percent undecided.
With the Iowa caucus looming large, Gingrich may be nosing ahead in the primary race, but Romney would make it a closer race against President Obama, the poll indicates.
If the presidential election were held today, 43 percent of Americans would vote for President Obama and 40 percent said they would vote for Mitt Romney, with 17 percent unsure.
In that same match-up 45 percent of Americans would vote for President Obama over 38 percent for Newt Gingrich with the same 17 percent unsure, the poll indicated.

GO NEWT!
Romney sux.
GO GINGRICH!
NO GOP-Establishment, Corrupt Beltway Punditry Pick, slimebag Romney!
I think ole willard cant shake the used car salesman label.I cant believe Haley of South Carolina came out in support of willy. That sux.
The poll numbers, at this point in time, are meaningless.
Newt Gingrich would, as the Republican nominee, beat Obama like a dead horse.
All we need is for the damed Republican establishment to get out of the way.
We need Ohio to swing our way in the general. Newt seems to offer an edge here.
I don’t care what the polls or the GOP elites say, Romney can not win a general election against the Marxist. Newt will have some tough sledding, but he’s been there. And there is no other alternative at this point.
“GO GINGRICH!”
“NO GOP-Establishment, Corrupt Beltway Punditry Pick, slimebag Romney!”
I wish you’d tell me how you really feel. You’re so on the fence.
Connect the dots for the Pew [Research] Center and decide for yourself if their polls are likely to be biased:
The Pew Research Center is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation which operates under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. It was established in 2004 as an independently operated subsidiary of The Pew Charitable Trusts, its primary funder.
Let's look at the Pew Charitable Trusts:
The Pew Charitable Trusts (seven individual trusts in all) were endowed with various inheritances of the four children of Joseph N. Pew, who founded the Sun Oil Company.
The trust had over $7.6 billion dollars in funds in 2002 and has distributed funds to over 60 environmental, wildlife and "social justice" groups the past 20 years including $140 million to the Tides Foundation, $12 million to the NRDC, $22 million to Earth Justice, $4.3 million to the Sierra Club, etc., etc., etc. The list (at the link) of organizations promoting government regulations to control every aspect of our lives is mind boggling. So do you think there is NOT bias in any "research and polling" the Pew organization does??
Jim or anyone else, do you believe Rudy, Sarah, Mark Levin, Cain and Rush will eventually endorse Newt?
For several years, I've urged the Republican presidential candidate to make an issue of the media. Clearly, they can be used to the Republican's advantage.
Nowadays, the press has lower approval ratings than lawyers. Their credibility is in shreds -- most people don't believe a word they write/say.
And even the left recognizes their partisan bias.
A Republican candidate can take effective advantage of this situation by making the press itself an issue -- if they have the wits to do it.
Romney can't. Newt will.
Yes, LOL. I am on the fence. I am convinced he has to be Commander-in-Chief, particularly after the last two debates. His rivals speak off the cuff, without much knowledge and certainly without the forethought that Gingrich has given to difficult problems in the Middle East.
All of the above, eventually!
Sarah said she won’t endorse anyone until after Iowa.
Rudy will endorse Newt very soon to spite Romney.
Cain will likely endorse Newt before Georgia.
Rush and Levin don’t do endorsements, but are beginning to circle the wagons for Newt because of what the Establishment is doing.
Good! A wonderful way to end the night!!
Ping!
All righty then.
We’re down to suck me and suck this.
Anyone tried the punch?
