~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~
~ Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 ~
On Sunday, December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By planning his attack on a Sunday, the Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo, hoped to catch the entire fleet in port. As luck would have it, the Aircraft Carriers and one of the Battleships were not in port. (The USS Enterprise was returning from Wake Island, where it had just delivered some aircraft. The USS Lexington was ferrying aircraft to Midway, and the USS Saratoga and USS Colorado were undergoing repairs in the United States.) In spite of the latest intelligence reports about the missing aircraft carriers (his most important targets), Admiral Nagumo decided to continue the attack with his force of six carriers and 423 aircraft. At a range of 230 miles north of Oahu, he launched the first wave of a two-wave attack. Beginning at 0600 hours his first wave consisted of 183 fighters and torpedo bombers which struck at the fleet in Pearl Harbor and the airfields in Hickam, Kaneohe and Ewa. The second strike, launched at 0715 hours, consisted of 167 aircraft, which again struck at the same targets. At 0753 hours the first wave consisting of 40 Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" torpedo bombers, 51 Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bombers, 50 high altitude bombers and 43 Zeros struck airfields and Pearl Harbor. Within the next hour, the second wave arrived and continued the attack. Information from here...LOTS of pictures

It was 23 at the airport too, but that area is always colder than downtown.

Good morning Condor51
First - BIG THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
Second, I don't see how anyone could go through something like that and not have "issues."
Third, way the 'average Japanese soldier' fought. They made the Waffen SS look like choir boys with their brutality.
one never hears about that stuff. The USofA was lambasted as the cruel, evil being for dropping the bomb. Pretty? NO. But when one is fighting true evil, it is never a pretty thing.
Finally, MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR

Good morning, dear ((HUGS))
Cold in Texas? What the hey? LOL
It’s rainy here - again. But I don’t mind - better than snow.
Unfortunately, that cold weather is headed our way.

It's going OK. My brother and his wife and daughter are here from Texas this morning. They're visiting today and tomorrow and then they go back on Friday.
It's freezing cold this morning. I just hit the frozen water in the swimming pool to get Bo and Jenny (Brother's dog) some water.

Morning Beachie!!
I agree with you regarding Pearl Harbor; the men who died that day were 18, 19, 20 year olds, cut down in the prime of their lives, what a shame, what a tragedy. My dad and countless other young American men enlisted soon thereafter, it was a time of incredible patriotism, HEY, don't mess with the U.S.!
Now there's just a handful of survivors, God Bless them!
You might get some snow, huh? We have been in a freezing fog condition the last week and it's getting old.
Well, well, enjoy your Christmas party and have a supercillious day!

I would love to hear others on where they were and what the overall happenings were throughout their day and weeks following as the News Pearl had been attacked became known...even if they were just kids then.I agree. To get a piece of history from the mouth of some one who was there, so to speak.

((LOL))No, what happened was the swimming pool water was frozen and the dogs were thirsty.
So, what I did was I hit the iced up swimming pool water with my shoe and broke the ice.
We got down to around 20 last night so I had to do something for the dogs. After doing this, the dogs got some water that they were able to drink.

Yes, it is nippy here today. I had to cover plants last night when I got home.
I am starting to pack up my personal stuff at work. Some things are going in the trash.

He passed away a few years ago, but I was fortunate enough to have recorded an interview I made with him when he stayed with my grandparents while attending the Super Sixth's last reunion. Good morning, Stonewall. Thanks for sharing that.
