Pelosi plans to reveal information about Gingrich 'when the time is right' By Alicia M. Cohn - 12/05/11 11:44 AM ET
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is holding back some information on Republican Newt Gingrich that could detract from his presidential campaign, according to a report published Monday.
One of these days well have a conversation about Newt Gingrich, Pelosi told Talking Points Memo. When the time is right. I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.
Gingrich, who served as Speaker of the House, worked with Pelosi in Congress from 1987 to 1999. Pelosi also served on the ethics committee that investigated Gingrich for tax cheating and campaign finance violations in the late 90s.
Gingrich filmed an ad with then-House Speaker Pelosi in 2008 to urge action on climate change, which haunted him early in his presidential bid this year. Gingrich called the ad probably the dumbest single thing Ive done in recent years last month.
Republicans in Congress have been slow to rally around Gingrichs rise to front-runner status in the polls, with former GOP colleague Sen. Tom Coburn (Okla.) stating publicly over the weekend he is not inclined to be a supporter of Gingrich due to that past experience.
But Democrats such as the soon-to-retire Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) have suggested Gingrich as the GOP nominee would benefit the Democratic Party.
"He would be the best thing to happen to Democrats since Barry Goldwater," Frank said last week. Goldwater is credited with reviving Republican conservatism in the 60s.
Pelosi told Talking Points Memo that Frank spoke for a lot of Democrats. I like Barney Franks quote the best, where he said I never thought Id live such a good life that I would see Newt Gingrich be the nominee of the Republican party, she said.
And Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), who also served in Congress with Gingrich and now holds a position of power as assistant minority leader in the House, charged Gingrich on Monday with lacking the temperament to be president.
He tends to fly off the handle. He will say almost anything in order to get a charge. Im sure that hes not serious when he says a lot of these things, Clyburn said on MSNBC.
Newt’s got plenty of ammo to go after Nancy with, Nancy may not want to get into a pissing contest with Newt, if she knows what’s good for her.
Another cunning stunt from Botox Girl
Some of us should be called pussy willows instead of Freepers.
“Help I’m scared of the democrats all our candidates are no good oh woe is me!”
Good God brace yourselves!
What he do Nasty Nancy? Hit on you?
I hope you are right but I thought when she decided not to run that there must be another skeleton or two yet confirmed. Todd's reaction to the cocaine story was to slam the nasty tactics but he did not say that they had never touched the stuff.
I would have supported Sarah in spite of past mind-altering experimentation and sexual adventures but something seemed to really spook her. I don't know what.
Let her say what she wants. Newt Gingrich was never found guilty of any ethics violations. Thats all that counts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Puh-leaze. Might as well say “Herman Cain was never found guilty of any sexual harrassment charges. Thats all that counts.”
Rubbish. At the very least, Gingrich will not be afraid to punch back and call Obama out. McCain was too much of a "gentleman" to point out Obama's flaws. Also, McCain had no ideas, except to get along with the Democrats.
There is NO comparison between Gingrich and McCain.
Newt -
You laid down with dogs, and you got fleas.
They ALL write books while the country goes to hell.
The Washington establishment considers Newt a pathetic joke. They forced him out of of the Speakership and ridiculed him constantly. Yet, Newt still cares more about the Washington insiders than he does the honest Americans who are struggling.
When you talk to political hacks or hags like Pelosi, they all think they know something, snicker, snicker, about the other party’s candidate.
Then when they tell you, it’s hard to stay awake.
Well, yeah. But here we are.
Newt. You've been a bad boy.
Mommy's going to have to teach you a lesson.
If so, and Nancy breaches such an agreement or otherwise violates a rule of the house concerning the conduct of members of the ethics committee, she could be subject to censure.
File a Freedom of Information suit and get those docs. Now.
They only just began on Palin. You don’t think they would waste it all on a Veep candidate or someone who isn’t running, do you?
Thy will dig up or make up every little thing they can on any of them.
Thing is, when are the media folks on our side going to quit being too scared to give Larry Sinclair attention?
Our media side doesn’t go after Obama full bore as they should.
“How stupid can Republican primary voters get?”
Bob Dole stupid? John McCain stupid? I guess we’re just succers for a pretty face?
I need to review the (IMHO) trumped up ethics and tax violation charges that were leveled against Newt in the late 90’s. I.am reasonably certain that the tax charges were dismissed.
If we have any real Newt History buffs here at FR a nice summary/reminder of the events that led to Newt’s “downfall” would be nice.
You are a mystery......but oh....so......right!
