Over the last year, the Obama administration has aggressively pushed a $433-million plan to buy an experimental smallpox drug, despite uncertainty over whether it is needed or will work. Senior officials have taken unusual steps to secure the contract for New York-based Siga Technologies Inc., whose controlling shareholder is billionaire Ronald O. Perelman, one of the world's richest men and a longtime Democratic Party donor.

Smallpox has been completely eradicated in the natural world. Why would we need a smallpox drug?
Crony capitalism rocks when you’re one of the cronies.
No question of that. He has created his legacy. And, it’s unlikely to ever be topped.
No question about it this is straight up corruption. The fact that bo chides “fat cats” is just so hypocritical.
No bid contracts happen frequently, the issue here is why is a vaccine being developed for a disease that has been removed from the natural world. .
I’d like to agree, and I believe this is a fine example of crony capitalism, but I have to wonder if the Soviets had Smallpox weaponized or pre-weaponized, and Lord knows where it is now. Pakistan? China? Cuba?
But he's "creating" jobs. Kinda like the alternative fuels B.S., to get rid of global warming.
Democrats - Thieves, Thugs, Thralls and Thickheads. I’m sure the old media will really cover this story.
Quick! Get this to the Occupy Wall Street idiots.
Need to read the whole article. An untested(untestable) drug for a remote/non-existant threat costing WAY more than even gov’t beaurocrats find acceptable - made by a company controlled by a superdonor which was too big to even qualify for grants but yet got the no-bid contract. And the poor gov’t bureaucrat that counseled against this deal was replaced by a toady more to the company’s liking.
This is just criminal.
It’s as close a direct payoff to a campaign contributor as you can get. The whole program will be scraped and another half a Billion will have been redistributed to Obumo’s buddies aka Solyndrafacation.
When do the supeonas start? Who’s going to jump on this?
I’m beginning to think that the top 1% are all demorats. Let’s tax the crap out of the top 1%.
“Part” of the Chicago Way...
>>The whole program will be scraped and another half a Billion will have been redistributed to Obumos buddies aka Solyndrafacation.<<
Maybe, but in this case it’s more likely that most of the profits will go to the donor. Granted, the vaccine is probably bogus and will likely never be used, even if it’s needed eventually.
However, you can bet that if you could tag each dollar, you would find that tens of millions of them make their way back into Democrat campaigns across the country. We, the taxpayers, are funding future Democrat campaigns. The solution is to cut off the funding at the source, in Congress. (Note tagline)
Just disgusting. Why is no one in the dock?
>>This Obama administration is the most corrupt administration in our nation’s history.<<
I don’t know if it’s the most corrupt ever, but this particular case, given the facts (no-bid contract, terrible recommendations from government employees originally involved, change in administrators to get someone who’d go along, the idiocy of the product itself, the involvement of the donor, etc.) if the Republicans in Congress can’t use this one to shine a bright light on the way the Democrats have been operating, then they’re either incompetent or in on the dealing themselves.
The bare facts, properly investigated, should make the corruption case so obvious that even the MSM might feel obliged to cover the matter.
I often wonder if it has been eradicated. I did read something a while back about them holding some samples at biotech facilities.
But the fact that they abandoned wide-scale universal immunization what, back in the early 70’s, and we DON’T see cases is a good argument that it’s gone.
Unless, of course, he "foresees" a massive outbreak across the nation - caused by a "terrorist" ( maybe just before the elections, creating a "national emergency" big enough to suspend the elections ?)
