“Smallpox has been completely eradicated in the natural world. Why would we need a smallpox drug?”

We don’t.

It is payola… almost half a billion dollars of my money and yours.

Just as crooked is the crooked House of Rip-offs who can say, “No money” but won’t. They are afraid of being blackmailed for their own crooked deals such as insider trading and much, much more.

No bid contracts happen frequently, the issue here is why is a vaccine being developed for a disease that has been removed from the natural world.

Because it has probably been weaponized by terrorist regimes such as North Korean Iran etc. That virus is alive and well in someones weapons lab.

Note: This is not a defense of Obama's crony capitalism with his donors. He is still a corrupt man and always will be.

It bears repeating:

This Obama administration is the most corrupt administration in our nation's history.

The article says we already have tons of vaccine in storage to give to all the US and half the world and it works great if given close in time to the exposure. This new boondoggle is an untested anti-viral that could be given to those exposed and not given vaccine #1 within the time period #1 works for. It’s a maybe drug for a threat so remote it is hard to believe would ever be used or even work. But, Obama’s pal gets almost a half billion of our tax bucks to sell it to our government.

I just had a thought:

I would agree with this only if the cheeky Kenyan bastard is offered up as the guinea pig. Shoot him up full smallpox germs, wait for a month or two or much longer, and see if the vaccine works.

Hey, it works for me. It would be worth yours and my ½ billion dollars.

My understanding is that there are two samples left, one in the US and one in USSR.
Everyone over the age of about 40 would have been vaccinated.
My youngest was born in 1981 and the docs had just stopped vaccinating people routinely for small pox.
I do not trust BHO and this contract makes me nervous.
You maybe correct, it could be a sample of things to come.

Good find! I was just reading a little about this from another site, which I cannot remember right now. They were talking about Lurie, and how she should be the go-to person on the Ebola response, but she had been tied up in this scandal, and Chimerix was the small company that lost to a big Dem donor company. It went on to explain that Chimerix was working on an anti-viral compound against infectious diseases, including hemorrhagic fevers, such as Lassa, Marburg, and Ebola at the time. Think of how far they may have been, and how much of the drug they could have processed with a big ole government contract.

Corruption in this admin— they eat, sleep, and breathe it.

Did You Know We Already Had an Ebola Czar?

...There is a woman, her name is Dr. Nicole Lurie.  There is an office at Health and Human Services that was set up ten years ago, George W. Bush Regime, created and paid for a brand new office at Health and Human Services specifically to coordinate preparation for and response to things like Ebola.

...this department funded another project in a company with huge ties to a Democrat donor, Ron Perelman, and took money away from a company that was developing a treatment now being used on Ebola patients.

So another department set up for crony corporatism, ostensibly a division of HHS to deal with outbreaks of killer diseases, and the budget for that department was used to pad a Democrat donor and his company, and the money that was given to the Democrat donor came from grants supposedly to go to a company working on an actual cure for Ebola or a serious treatment.

FDA OKs 1st drug to treat smallpox, in case of terror attack
Associated Press ^ | Jul. 13, 2018 7:08 PM EDT | Linda A. Johnson

U.S. regulators Friday approved the first treatment for smallpox — a deadly disease that was wiped out four decades ago — in case the virus is used in a terror attack. Smallpox, which is highly contagious, was eradicated worldwide by 1980 after a huge vaccination campaign. But people born since then haven’t been vaccinated, and small samples of the smallpox virus were saved for research purposes, leaving the possibility it could be used as a biological weapon. Maker SIGA Technologies of New York has already delivered 2 million treatments that will be stockpiled by the government, which partially paid for...
