A growing number of Americans is thinking about turning expat, according to a survey by America Wave and Zogby International.
The share of Americans planning to relocate increased to 2.5 percent from 0.8 percent in 2009. If this number describes the entire population, that means around 6 million Americans are planning on leaving the country.
America Wave's Bob Adams (a Business Insider contributor) found that single people, political conservatives and men were more likely to be in this group.

It is definitely entrepreneurial people, affluent people who want to escape the taxes on worldwide income, and those who don’t like what is happening here. If I start another biz, it willbe offshore.
BS. Just where the heck would they move?
Thankin’ ‘bout it, had an offer to teach English in China, where, the man said, there is no welfare for the lazy bums!
Where is Galt’s Gulch these days anyway?
Same here and I am a signature away from dual citizenship that could be very lucrative in 25 years.
No F'n way. I am a proud citizen of the United States of America.
I visited Veracruz long ago, but recently read an article that Veracruz the city and Veracruz the state have been almost irretrievably lost to gangs and corruption.
Some here seem to have interpreted Galts Gulch to mean the Peoples Republic of China.
Ayn Rand did not mean that.
Of that, I am absolutely certain.
I left the USA many years ago and moved to California. Next I’ll be in Mexico without having to leave CA.
I meet with a group of expats in Brisbane every so often and we chat about life and how to live in a great society here in Oz. The killer is learning the lingo. It’s easy once you get the hang of what they’re talking about, right mate? The whole thing here is just tickety-boo. And Bob’s yer uncle.
After trips to Panama, Vietnam, Costa Rica and Spain we have decided to join compatriots who are populating Idaho and South Dakota in order to establish patriotic American strongholds here at home.
No worse than rural Canada, where I lived long before satellite TV and the internet, PLUS I had to know some French.
The country with the most expat Americans is Canada. Roughly a million. Now some would say the cultural shift is minor so Canada might be considered cheating in terms of moving away from the USA but there is where you find the most Americans abroad.
Spot on.

It is rough but I our place is outside that zone. We are keeping an eye on the situation and are sure the government is planing on moving in. The Mexican prez is PO’d and it looks like he wants to use VZ to make an example.
I’d move to Banff in a heartbeat if I could, Alberta is the “Texas” of Canada, people there are much more conservative than in Toronto.
if you find it, please pass along the coords
with entitlements (ie: buying votes with taxpayer money) at 60% of federal spending... I’m working 30% of my time to support the parasites
the same parasites that vilify me or anyone like me.
it’s like the Jews in 1930s Germany paying taxes to build the death camps. it makes no sense
Yep. I’ve seen at least as many Stetsons in Calgary as Dallas.
I’m considering moving to Canada or Switzerland if
Obamacare isn’t repealed by Jan 2014.
Eff ‘em. If they choose to run when their country needs them most, I say good riddance, and never call yourself my countryman again.
