Three top pack in GOP race (Position Poll / Cain 24.4%, Romney 19.5%, Gingrich 19.0%)

In the remarkable race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, it now appears to be a three-way contest among embattled frontrunner Herman Cain, one-time favorite Mitt Romney, and the surging Newt Gingrich.

Poll Position’s national scientific survey of Americans saying they plan to vote in the 2012 Republican primary or caucus was conducted Tuesday night as Cain found himself embroiled in a growing controversy over sexual allegations made against him by four women – allegations Cain emphatically denies as baseless.

The poll found
  24% backing Cain, (actually 24.4%)
  20% Romney,       (actually 19.5%)
  19% Gingrich,     (actually 19.0%)
  7% Rick Perry,
  6% Ron Paul,
  4% Michelle Bachmann,
  2% Jon Huntsman,
  3% someone else, and
  15% with no opinion.

...
These poll results reflect the views of 604 likely Republican primary voters with a margin of error of +/- 4%. The poll’s full crosstabs are below.

They Effed up trying to chuck shit at Cain. Now he has name recognition not only as the man with a excellent record, but the man who they tried to lynch in public.

All three would kick the hell out of Obama. But of the three, Cain is the most trustworthy.

Lets see the proof you bimbos! Lets see it! You aint got it, and you hired a media whore to get out front. Remember the Kalifornia election? This media slut was right there out in front of the cameras with that one.

No it aint, and Ronald Reagan won back then.

Reagan was the only president in history who divorced.

just last week i thought perry was in the top 3 and gingrich had no chance

however now it is glaringly apparent that perry has no chance and it is Gingrich, Cain and Romney.

the problem is that I see Gingrich and Cain splitting the conservative vote while Romney will hold steady with his liberal conservative share.

The question now is who gets that final 5-10% that were still supporting La Raza Rick before his EPIC FAIL last night.

Seriously though - Perry, Bachman, Paul, Huntsman all need to fold the tents and let the final 3 duke it out.

I hate to say it, but you’re going to see the lesser candidates like Bachmann, Huntsman and Santorum all dropping out and throwing their support behind Romney. Perry could also do the same if he drops out, depending how bought and paif for he is.

Biblical principal: “Yet the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will be stronger and stronger” (Job 17:9).

Cain will get stronger and stronger. God keeps His promises.

in the case of Newt the thing is that we all agree on his political/governmental actions and his public conservative creds —> he’s not going to support gay marriage, abortion for everyone, socialism etc.

While everyone here is getting all giddy and emotional again over another “feel good” candidate, the base is in danger of becoming severely split like it was in 2008.

After the lesser candidates drop out, much of that support will likely go to Romney or Gingrich, because Cain does not have any shred of experience. Gingrich reminds me of McCain in that he is severely underfunded and cannot organize his primary schedule adequately. Which leaves the door wide open for Romney.

Knowing how American politics generally plays out, this is looking more like another disaster with every passing day. I would hope not, but reality is what it is.

I would have thought that Paul would be polling stronger than that graph portrays.

I’ve said this about the “melting pot” concept:

Think of the “melting pot” more like a pot of soup. You can add a lot of things to soup that makes it better, chicken, carrots, celery, noodles, etc.

However, there are certain foods you just can’t add to soup, or it’ll just taste like crap.

I agree...we could have learned a lot more from the front runners if time had not been sucked up with the ones that do not have a chance. I did notice the panel asked Romney more questions than anyone ...get the drift the dems want him to be our candidate.
Newt appears to annoy the media the most..he hits hard. LOL when Maria asked each candidate to respond in 30 secs or less..what they would do after they repealed Obamacare..Newt said, “that is the most absurd question to expect an answer in 30 secs” too complex..well, he made her look like a fool

And now they’re attaching the adjective “embattled” to Herman Cain’s name. I also notice that Romney’s numbers are going down and it seems those numbers are going to Newt.
But I’m a Cain supporter through and through.

Maybe Tokyo Rove wishes someone would claim sexual harrassment against him. It might improve his image.

Good chart!

Perry, Paul, and the also-rans are all history (sorry, Bachmann supporters, maybe in 2016?). It’s down to Cain, Romney, and Newt. While I find Newt revolting, he’s a whole lot better than Romney. The question is whether Cain can survive the media’s dirty tricks. If he can, he’ll be the best choice we have, and the strongest candidate. If not, then Newt could ooze into the nomination as the anti-Romney.
