Paul says friendship best way to deal with Iran AP News Sunday, November 06, 2011

GOP presidential hopeful Ron Paul says "offering friendship" to Iran, not sanctions, would be a more fruitful to achieving peace with Tehran.

The Texas congressman says fears about Iran's nuclear program have been "blown out of proportion." He says tough penalties are a mistake because, as he says was the case in Iraq, they only hurt the local

truthfreedom,

We must balance the budget and cut spending, but America must NEVER cut military spending. Our enemies are now living within our borders. There is a real a present danger threatening our sovereignty.

We were able to defeat the USSR because of our military might. Dismantling our NASA program, closing our military bases, and downsizing our forces is weakening our ability to protect and defend.

“Right-wing” is a liberal term. I never recognize it as a legitimate description.

RINO is a democrat in republican clothing. Nothing “right-wing” about it.

This sort of comment is why Ron Paul will never get serious consideration for the presidential nomination, despite his many good ideas.

Let me make this clear to you.

We have a Leftist government run by Leftists on both sides of the political aisle. Start with a center Leftist agenda and then break them up into two parties Dem and Pubbie to determine if they are more to the Left of what constitutes the political center of Leftism and then those to the Right.

Neither Leftist party wants the Conservatives to win and will work together to prevent that.

Let us be a bit clearer on the subject and set aside the false distinctions. The Left is the Left. There are no true Left/Right of center differences. The ultimate goals is to implement a Socialist/Communist form of government.

“Right-wing” was inappropriately used in this context. Furthermore, the term is a propaganda catch-phrase, if you will, by the Left.

Naturally, the Left’s commitment to defeating all Conservative opposition is understandable.

Let us offer the olive branch of peace. Grant it, they may chop off our hand, but it’s the thought that counts.

I donno, I think hand chopping is only for thieves. Infidels get heads chopped off, or just a stoning if they're in a particularly good mood...

Nuke em from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.
After we irradiate them, bulldoze the entire country into a parking lot.

I have never been a staunch advocate of the notoriously infamous “Kumbaya” approach to Middle East policy. If only Dr. Paul would use common sense involving these issues.

I don't understand what gives Ron Paul confidence to think "friendship" with Iran is going to improve things.

Iran is going to get the bomb despite diplomatic protestations and laughable sanctions. At best we delay the inevitable while are afraid to support a revolt.

I hope behind closed doors we are not kidding ourselves.

They wish to draw votes away from Conservative candidates.

There're no such candidates. If you think otherwise you've been hoodwinked and snookered.

"when someone is telling me over and over that they want to kill me, my involvement seems prudent and necessary."

And quite practical.

We’re talking about comparatives, yes. I qualified my statement by specifying the “Troll” moniker.

Cain, compared to Gingrich, is Conservative. Cain’s platform can’t be described as Centrist or Progressive.

Not every threat is the USSR or Nazi Germany. But a The Iranian regime has made it clear that they wish to destroy the Great Satan (US) and Little Satan (Israel). "Death to America" is a standard chant at government events there. And these are the moderate Iranian Islamists. The Twelver Shia extremists believe that the Mahdi (Muslim Messiah) will only come when the Muslim world is cleansed by fire. THEY WANT TO BE NUKED. There is no deterring that faction. Do you think they are building rocket sites in Venezuala for kicks?

And an Iranian bomb would prompt a Saudi, Egyptian, and Turkish nuclear bomb program. At that point there is no plausible deterrence as proving which country gave a weapon to which terrorist group quickly becomes impossible. An American city being nuked is not as bad as a full strike between the US and USSR would have been, but it would be rather costly to us. A few days of air strikes on Iran's nuclear program, terror infrastructure, Revolutionary guards, and navy would be a pittance.

When asked on "Fox News Sunday" what he would do to deter Iran's alleged nuclear ambitions, Paul said "maybe offering friendship to them."

Yeah, that'll work. Trying to make friends with a hostile, Islamic government is like inviting a rattlesnake into your sleeping bag. You should have enough damn sense to know that you're going to get bit.

And I suspect that Congressman Paul's idea of "offering friendship to them" (appeasement) means sending them aid in the form of U.S. dollars, which they would no doubt use to further their "nuclear ambitions". And who do you think a nuclear capable Iran's first target would be...

The Iranians are persians, turks and kurds, not Arabs. Indeed, Arabs dislike Iranians and Iranians dislike Arabs. Remember, this is the middle east we are talking about. ;)

Or to paraphrase the Saudi King: You (the US) must cut the head off the snake (Iran)...

I´d put it down to a weak field. Plus, Perry is perfect on paper. I doubt anyone takes Paul really seriously.

The funny thing is that there is a good case to be made for neo-isolationism, but Paul seems to be utterly incapable of making it.
