He’s stealing a page out of Obama’s playbook.

What is it with Texans (heck I am from Texas and even I don’t get it)

Instead of admitting when they are wrong, they just double down. I guess in a weird sort of way it’s admirable to stand up for your beliefs even when you are under attack, but it’s also just plain stupid when you are trying to get elected and the issue you are being stubborn on it at odds with the vast majority of the people you want to vote for you.

Paul and Perry both are sinking their campaigns because of their stubborn refusal to admit they are wrong, and instead attack those who’s votes they seek.

I must tell you, I’m actually rather glad that we are pulling out ALL forces from Iraq. I fear for our troops there. THey can always re deploy quickly if they need to. We don’t need boots on the ground...

These people have finally had a taste of freedom. Let IRAN come in and take it away from them and see what happens.

Maybe we should rethink Afghanistan also....

Being energy independent would solve a lot of things.

Concur. This just goes to show how a person can be very smart and shrewd in some areas, but totally out to lunch in others. IMHO, his fantasyland view of foreign policy makes him a poor choice for POTUS.

Isn’t he just like obama who tries to win them over by his kindness and humility. Look at what obama achives by his humility!

I would actually like to see him prove it.

We must keep in mind that Iran has a giant younger population that is not in support of their government.

Good one, even though it must be hard to parody an extreme nut-job like Ron Paul.

"Because some freepers are tired of spending tons and tons of money on the military."

Why is it the military the first thing mentioned by Ron Paul and his drones as what is needed to be cut?

The US Military budget is way to small in my opinion and should be jacked up 100%. What we need is a stronger military, not a weaker one? Defending this nation should be about the only function of our Government, and all other functions given to the states. Ron Paul and his drones don't stand WITH the constitution, they hide behind it.

Why is basic survival instincts absent so many people?

Now, if you want to stand with me on cutting wasteful defense spending, then I will stand with you.

"Or are you one of those truthers like Ron Paul?"

60% of Ron Paul drones are truthers. The other 40% won't admit it.

Ron Paul frequents the Alex Jones show. In case you don't know, Alex Jones is America's premier "911 inside job" evangelist.

"The funny thing is that there is a good case to be made for neo-isolationism, but Paul seems to be utterly incapable of making it."

Is there? How about you make the case then?

Is there something different about mankind today that makes us different from 2000 years ago?

It isn’t. There are whole agencies that Ron Paul wants to cut.

This thread is about foreign policy.

If this thread was about getting rid of the Department of Education, many, probably most, here would agree. We don’t argue here about areas of agreement. Too much Federal Regulation, overall, cuts are needed. We all pretty much agree here, no controversy, no arguing.

http://www.wnyc.org/articles/its-free-country/2011/oct/18/ron-pauls-cuts/

That’s just a random link to Ron Paul’s massive cuts.

I personally would rather not be having a discussion about foreign policy. I’d rather have it be all about who is cutting domestic the most. But foreign policy is where the controversy is.

"I personally would rather not be having a discussion about foreign policy"

Isolationist foriegn policy will fundementally transform domestic policy, i.e., more tyranny, violence and misery.

Obama has been bombing more countries than anybody.

Obama has attacked more countries than Reagan.

Ron Paul is arguing with Obama.

Many Republicans are agreeing with Obama.

How does that work?

We aren’t talking about an “isolationist” foreign policy, just one where we aren’t “foolish in the use of our strength” - Robert Taft.

You do know that the Democrats, traditionally, are the ones who have gotten us into the wars, and the Republicans are the ones who have gotten us out of them.

See: Dole, 1976 “Democrat Wars”

I’m using “Middle East” in a broad, all encompassing sense of the word.

Isolationism shrinks your economy and standard of living and spirals a nation into decline and misery. In our case, it would create a vacuum for Russia and China to fill, i.e., enslave the American people economically to these regimes. Iran, China/North Korea and Cuba/Venezuela would be regional powers.

Anarchy would rule

America will ALWAYS need a large and strong military. What I hear from Ron Paul and his drones is limp-wristed, purse-swinging, bed-wetting passivism (why can't we be friends) and isolationism (economically, let's be slaves and/or commit suicide). Read, nowhere do I mention that I desire to place American boots and blood in every corner of the world either.

That's how it works.
