Declaration of Independence Was 'Illegal,' Grounds for Treason, British Lawyers Say
Published October 20, 2011 | FoxNews.com

The Declaration of Independence was “illegal” and “treasonable,” according to a team of British lawyers, the BBC reports.

The assertion was made at a debate in Philadelphia between British and American lawyers over the legitimacy of the United States of America.

At the debate, pitting British barristers against American attorneys, lawyers for the former colonial power argued that America’s Declaration of Independence in 1776 “was not only illegal, but actually treasonable,” according to the BBC.

The lawyers representing the British team decided that the Americans had no legal grounds for secession. "[President Abraham] Lincoln made the case against secession and he was right."

Well we double dog dare you to come back, chase the president out of Washington and burn the White House again.

You, apparently, haven't been keeping up on the whole 'occupy' mess. (Kidding, of course.)

The civil war ended any facade of the US Constitution having any real power to limit the “Federal” government.

You may be right, but I think that the progressives who came 30 to 50 years later who actively worked to pass ALL of the amendments in the 1910's did more to end the facade than the Union winning the Civil War.

Canada has high taxes.

And exports it's cold weather. Our 'friends' to the north can be blamed for many things.

Yes, it was. And if you read it, it clearly recognizes that fact, as well as the dangers that posed. But the signers all agreed that whatever the cost, freedom from British tyranny was worth it.

And it was.

Under British law in 1776, yes it was illegal. That why a war was fought to break away from the mother country and institute our own laws and Constitution, including a Bill of Rights.

Why do you think Benjamin Franklin said “We must all hang together, or most assuredly we shall hang separately”?

That quote was the first thing that came to mind . . . actually second, right after "no s___."

Nope. They should read John Locke. It isn’t illegal at all. It is simply following the natural law of government- which is that a government that is not doing its job, will be replaced. Simply following the laws of nature, and nature’s God.....those laws are greater than those of the monarch and an unrepresentative parliament.

and the suffix ‘-ize’ will be replaced by the suffix ‘-ise.’Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels

Actually, old bean, "-ize" is correct, "-ise" is French.

That cold weather is welcome in Texas. Just for fun, go to any medical center near the Canadian border. Count the Canadian license plates. Paying out of pocket for medical care is illegal in Canada. Both the Doctor and Patient face prosecution.

Under British law in 1776, yes it was illegal.

Under German law in the 1930s, seizing the property of Jews, placing them in camps and slaughtering them was legal. That's the funny thing about laws. Just because something is illegal, it isn't necessarily wrong. Just because something is legal, it isn't necessarily right.

We need to force Canada to adopt numerous parts of the US Constitution, as amended, and then move there.

The Declaration of Independence was “illegal” and “treasonable,” according to a team of British lawyers,

Yes? This is suppose to be news? The founding fathers not only knew this but admitted it quite clearly. However, they won the war and the crown had to accept it. That is what happens when you win. Might makes right.

If the British want to talk about illegal and treasonable we can talk about the little dust up in 1485 and what followed.

You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with vinegar.

Darlin' we invented them. So we get to name them. Deal with it.

12. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is not played outside of America

Japan, Cuba, Canada and the Dominican Republic are astonished to learn that they are America. Especially Japan. Talk about not being aware of the world outside your boaders...
