Obama advisers fret over pipeline's political risks

WASHINGTON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Reeling from months of protests, President Barack Obama's advisers are worried that administration approval for a planned oil pipeline from Canada could cost him political support from Democrats in 2012.

Senior officials at the White House and Obama's Chicago campaign headquarters have fielded complaints from supporters who are unhappy about TransCanada Corp's plan to build a massive pipeline to transport crude from Alberta to Texas, sources familiar with the situation said.

The concerns could contribute to a delay in the approval process for the Keystone XL pipeline just as the 2012 presidential campaign heats up.

The State Department, which is overseeing the process, said this week a delay from its end-of-year target was possible.

Obama's re-election plans depend partially on his ability to energize his base of supporters, many of whom are disillusioned with his progress in fighting climate change and attaining other environmental goals.

Keystone is a big deal and very much needed. Leave it to the greenies and the big dud in chief to fret about it and decide that jobs and energy are trumped by pseudo-science and communism.

The OWS and other hippies are all up in arms about it. If I was Team Obama, I’d worry about my closet case, proto-Muslim, sissy Mary, weak tea, overspending candidate.

The Left is comprised of cults rigidly segregated. This issue will divide them, white rich weenie libs versus just about everybody else in the coalition of the stick up thugs.

Yes, and we have a Republican Senator and Governor opposed to this pipeline crossing the sandhills of Nebraska. Stupid is obviously an airborne virus.

No, hers is one the gas companies want to run from Alaska. With the glut of NG in the lower 48 the talk now is to run the pipeline to the coast and ship LNG to China.

disillusioned with his progress in fighting climate change and attaining other environmental goals.

He has sabotaged the economy and CO2 and other emissions are down. He has built thousands of green holes in the sky to shovel trillions of dollars into. The watermelons will always be unhappy, even after we become Cuba Norte.

I remember when the greenies tried to block the Trans Alaska pipeline back in the seventies. Can you imagine where we would be today without it?

It is a big deal here in Nebraska- turns out last summer a year ago per the news on ABC last night- this outfit was threatening land owners they sell or the company would take what they want by eminent domain- however, according to the news, in an illegal manner. The governor has called an emergency session of the state legislature, they convened this past Tuesday- to prevent this pipeline from going over the Ogalala aquifer.

I got flamed before here- being told this will provide jobs etc and to )(*^ with the danger of contaminating the underground water. Water is useless without jobs. My slant is water is more valuable than about any asset we have.

There is no valid reason that pipeline has to go over that acquifer- and there is no way any one will convince me there is any guarantee contamination or spills will never happen. Whether from accident or intent.

That acquifer goes clear down into Texas - it is not a small issue.
