AN 84-YEAR-OLD ex-university official savagely attacked by four young punks during a walk in Wissahickon Valley Park earlier this week theorizes that the beating he endured was a cruel game of "get the old geezer."
Jim Shea, a former vice president of university relations for Temple, from 1968 to 1983, walks up to five miles on Forbidden Drive, in Fairmount Park, three times a week, but that type of stamina wasn't enough to stave off the lowlifes who not only beat him bloody, but dealt a blow to one of the things he holds most dear - his pride.
Shea was near the Valley Green Inn, on Forbidden Drive, in the Wissahickon Valley Park, about 1:15 p.m. Monday when he was hit from behind.
"I felt a real something to the head, a real blow to the head from behind," he said. "It knocked me to the ground; that was the biggie."
Shea said the four assailants continued to beat him for minutes while he was on the ground. He said they were black, appeared to be between 16 and 20, and three of them were wearing La Salle sweatshirts.
Police and Shea said that at least one of the attackers used a rock to hit him, causing deep cuts above his eyes. They all kicked and punched him while he was on the ground, conscious the entire time.
"There was only one I really saw well because he came back to kick me," Shea said. "The others spent a great deal of the time laughing."

The modern version of a Race Riot
To recipients of government funding, people on Social Security are competitors for government funds. Weak and easily killed competitors.
Beat up whitey, but only at a rate of occurrence that won’t cause whitey to fight back.
If you have 80 ear old vision, you need a lazer.I am glad your vision is good but call me when you are an octogenarian.
Would they run? Not if he shot all three of them. That takes about 2 seconds.
PA has concealed carry, but I wonder how hard it is to get a license in Philly. Not totally sure about this, but aren't the licenses handled by local law enforcement? The administration of Philly is extremely anti-gun.
Public canings and a month in the pillory would be in order. So would prison time for assault
The action on the Ruger might be a little tough for an 84 year old especially if he has any arthritus in his hands. The Bersa 380 for about the same price is a tad larger so your hand fits around it a little more securely and it has a safety and a decocker. Actions fairly smooth also. Does not have a laser though one can be added.
Nice!I love small caliber pistols,,,I shoot them at steel silouettes at 100 yards, lot of fun.
Bang,,,,,,,,1,,2,........Patink! If you can aim well at that distance, its no problem at 5 to 20 feet when you are down on the pavement.
Too bad the victim was not armed! The day is coming when every city will be like Dodge. We are not too far off in some places today.
Great tagline - lol!

I think you mean black culture. I live in an overwhelmingly white area and nothing like this ever happens. It's low crime and filled with decent hard working Americans.
This is a black phenomenon.

PA law doesn’t allow local pre-emption of state gun rights. Philly tried to make their own rules a short time ago, but all that was cleaned up.
PA has state-wide shall issue.
When can we start playing a nationwide game of “Shoot The Thugs”?
Being alert is for sure at least half of the battle. And the best battles are the ones not fought, because of measures taken—beginning with a 360* mindset. Even on long walks, stop and look around frequently. Loop back, change sides of streets, turn around frequently, and see trouble while it’s still at a manageable distance.
And if they still come on to attack, at least you may be ready with your trusty revolver or pistol. But it all starts with honing situational awareness and scanning 360* frequently.
Yes. I wish people would drop the silly 'Amish' comments, too. Thankfully I haven't seen it on this thread so far.
This is a problem caused by blacks. That b-l-a-c-k-s. It's not that hard to spell
This kind of attack shows how far some cultures have devolved.
I had an armalaser installed on a Kel-Tec .380, but it would NOT hold a zero. The mounting system was just too “flexible” for lack of a better word. I took it off.
US=SA post apartheid. Google ‘Cania, SA’ a SA town that has maintained total separation from the ANC. Maybe the only way to avoid these black on white crimes in the near future.
Geez, I know that area well and I’m a Temple grad. I probably worked with this man when I was a student. I was on a committee to come up with suggestions to attract more Black students and get them into grad school.
I even introduced the park at Wissahickon to many of my out of my fellow students from out of state. It was an easy drive from the Temple campus, if you knew the roads.
