Two separate investigations are underway Monday after multiple submachine guns and pistols used for SWAT training by the LAPD were found missing.
KNX 1070′s Pete Demetriou reports the weapons were stolen from a building owned and used specifically for training by the LAPD.
The 21 MP-5 submachine guns and a dozen Colt 45 automatic pistols were taken from a locked container inside the Kennedy Building on San Pedro Street, police officials said.
The location which formerly housed clothing firms before it was donated to the LAPD several years ago is considered a secure site, Deputy Chief Michael Downing told the Associated Press.
While the weapons had been modified to fire training ammunition, the concern is that they could easily be converted back to fire live rounds.
These guns cant be used with regular ammunition unless theyre significantly modified back, said LAPD Commander Andy Smith.
With the proper fittings, the MP-5 can fire live ammo at 600 rounds minute potentially putting heavy firepower into criminal hands.
A second administrative investigation is also underway as to why the weapons were stored in a location with no alarms or security cameras.
We always do an internal investigation whenever anything like this occurs, and well have our investigators look at it from top to bottom, said Smith.
Did they call the cops?
Heck no. They called BATF and told them to give their frikkin’ guns back.
They are in Tijuana..............
Look in Holder’s pants.
it’s OK- they all had federally mandated trigger locks on them, I’m sure.
Inside job. Bet on it.
Yeah. Them blank-firing attachments (BFA) are real hard to remove...
The guns must be modified to fire sim-munitions, basically a paint round. Not sure what the mod is to the barrel, but I would imagine the recoil springs would be a lot lighter to allow the actions to function. Could be kind of funny with live rounds.
Why does any police force require 600 rpm weapons?
I dont remember if it was LA but I remember a major city police training facility that was away from any police station. The guns were stored at the training facility which was only manned when training was in progress.
I remember thinking how stupid that it was that they would not keep the weapons at a manned facility and transport them to the training grounds when needed.
If I where their insurer and that was the way did business I would not be their insurer long.
Boy this SURE is not Chief Parker’s or Chief Gate’s LAPD!
Oops! Think again, Chief!
“Found missing”? Please learn to write. That said, inside job...
Where was Eric Holder when it happened?
Ever since the little N.Hollywood bank robery and shoot out where the guy with full body armor who shot it out with a bunch of cops.
He had WAY better fire power and defensive stuff.
Well the LAPD went hog wild and decided NO one would out fire power them again and started passing out REAL BIG GUNS and stuff to make sure.
At the Tijuana border, white gloves on, nifty police-like hat, standing at the open gate waving the unmarked vans through to Mexico.
It must be those damn TEA Party people. /s
Maybe these weapons were set to fire 3 round bursts, but a full auto “spray and pray” seems rather irresponsible for a police force.
