Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the countrys border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...
Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops with real guns and real bullets on the border to stop illegal immigration.
The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..
It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.
Its going to be 20 feet high. Its going to have barbed wire on the top. Its going to be electrified. And theres going to be a sign on the other side saying, It will kill you Warning. At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written in English and in Spanish.
This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors, Mr. Cain said at the second rally. We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And were going to shut off the back door so you dont have to sneak into America.

“Does Cain have a clue what this border looks like and WHY you cannot build a freaking fence on most of the border? Heck, the border patrol cannot even get to a large part of the AZ border and in Texas, who is going to tell the cows of ranchers who have ranches on the border that oh, BTW you cant get a drink of water out of the river now because the president has created an electric fence that will electrocute you...... sheesh!”
We put that argument to bed hundreds of posts ago.
Well I know this for sure, Perry wont hang a 9% National sales tax on us and tell us its sugar.
I’ve asked you before about tetanus shots, and you didn’t answer. Are you against all mandated vaccines for children and do you really believe that vaccines increase risky behaviour?
My property has a fence to keep my dogs in my yard. Trust me if a coyote is in the neighborhood the fence will not keep it out and anyone who has a small dog and a fence and thinks the fence is going to keep their dog safe is deluded.... same goes for a border fence... it will keep TX ranchers cattle from water, it will not keep people who want to come here from coming over the fence or under the fence... what keeps people in prisons is not the fences, it is the guards guarding the fences, what keeps people out of the WH grounds is not the fence, people go over the fence all the time, the guards grab them and arrest them when they do...... that said, you clearly have never seen the American/Mexican border... 90% of that border is clearly not fenceable, mostly because of the terrain and the fact most of the land is privately owned..... or have conservatives gone so crazy they now think it is okay to take thousand of acres of land away from their owners, much of the land has been in families for several hundred years... Perry actually is correct, drones is the answer for the 90% that is unfenceable... the rest he does want to fence....... funny how everyone ignores that!
“I’ll live in the northeast or California.”
Give me a ping..I’ll help you pack. :)
“At least I know that a vote for Perry is a vote for Perry.
Everyone else in the race seems to be jonesin for Romney.”
Well, let’s see. Cain and Romney are at 30%. Therefore any CONSERVATIVE voting for Perry is taking away a vote that Cain needs. Perry is already finished...as can be seen be the higher and higher levels of desperation here, and the lack of the REAL Perry supporters even showing up on this thread (i.e., the ones that post article after article about him). We’re mostly left with the second-stringers now.
Sure get tired of fixing that ...wouldn't think I'd have to keep doing that here at FR...sigh...
Rick Perry has NEVER endorsed La Raza.
He Spoke at one event that they invited him to and he spoke frankly.
The invasion of illegals from whatever border are NOT all Mexicans. Problem is we have NO CLUE who crosses our borders.
You should ask about his rabies shots.
“In fact..this whole moats, alligators, bombs, electrify them thread makes me sad..so I must refrain from any further response..”
I haven’t gone beyond Cain’s plans (that’s plenty) and I agree that moats, alligators, and bombs are silly. I even admonished one person on this thread who talked to me about land mines. But it does show the level of frustration with our border control efforts, and convinces me that A LOT of people outside our forum will appreciate Cain proposing some solid tough-love steps to deal with it.
Thought at first that would be a great idea, but what happens when the wind stops or the stupid things are broken?
Speaking at= acknowledging= endorsing...to me anyway...and at the border summit he said the Rio Grande joins two people...he's not fooling me...and neither are people like you...
“The ignorance displayed on this thread tonite would keep me awake if I thought about it.
Its discouraging to see so many foolish, clueless people and so many mean, hateful posts.”
Man, those are words of the left...in case you didn’t know. Sorry if border defense is a messy subject, but people here want it DEALT WITH, and yes, they do go a bit overboard at times.
Amen to that...;o)
Cain said: “Its insensitive for them to be killing our citizens, killing our border agents, he said. Thats whats insensitive. And that mess has to stop.”
You then said: “The guy is getting to be a loose cannon. I got those quotes from the original NYT blog. I await Mr Cains Clarification on the matter. I saw the video and heard the audio where he talked about it. This chuckle head thinks he is above reprisal. “
Jeeze, that isn’t even one tenth of what Reagan was saying about the Soviets in 1980. If you’re hurt by it, you’re simply hanging out with the wrong political party.
Everyone speaks to LaRaza, that is just a fact... but by all means flush the Hispanic vote down the tubes with all the hate speech and see what kind of country we have in another four years of Obama, because the sad fact everyone ignores is we need them to vote GOP and the other fact everyone ignores they are a natural conservative constituency... Perry has to deal with a state with a HUGE Hispanic population; he also gets their votes, without their votes TX could well swing back to what it used to be — a Democratic State — it has not always been a Republican state... people are hanging Perry by his own petard because he has deftly dealt with the issues a Governor of a state with 42% of the population that is Hispanic faces... but them most Freepers would have him line all Mexicans up and execute them — which is basically what Cain IS advocating... which is not surprising because the Black and Hispanic communities do not co-exist all that well... but then Cain also hates Muslims....... so I wonder, who does he like — other than Romney.. who he supported in 2008 and said he could support in 2012...
Have YOU ever gotten off your sorry bottom to actually patrol the border? Have you actually dealt with the legal issues involved?
Please. IF all a prison needed was ‘guards’ then why waste the dollars putting up a fence. I am NOT interested in one more so called ‘compassionate’ president playing ‘god’ ignoring national security. NOBODY knows who slips into this nation and Mexico sure does control their borders. Why are we willing to be their dumping grounds. A flipping ‘drone’ is NOT going to stop anyone from coming into this nation. Northern border or southern border.
Texas has a big water problem right now and it has NOTHING to do with fences. Maybe somebody is trying to get their attention????
per my #490 and Bob’s suggestion that the family get a lawyer.
People and cities have tried and lost.
http://www.samuellogan.com/articles/texans-fence-with-federal-authorities.html
The Patriot Act and the empowerment of the Department of Homeland Security to build the fence where they want were reinforced by the Secure Fence Act in 2006, and the DHS, Chertoff, and now Napolitano weren’t and aren’t looking for any local input or compromise.
The Feds admit that the fence only slows down crossers. That article above says,
“””Border Patrol has admitted this border fence will only slow down the illegal entry by about three to four minutes, and at a cost of US$49 billion, we just don’t think that’s good enough.”””
So, this family lost access to 15 acres of prime riverfront hay pasture without compensation and without a noticeable effect on the illegals crossing their land.
We’re talking about hundreds of miles of similar stories.
If you want to read a slightly left-leaning review of the state’s border efforts over the last 10 years, here’s one from a year ago. The author ignores the several times that gunshots have crossed the Rio in El Paso and tries to condemn Texas for catching illegal aliens at all, but the then-historical parts make us look good.
