The Obama administration will not implement a controversial piece of the healthcare reform law, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Friday.
Sebelius said the department will not continue trying to implement the CLASS program, which was intended to provide insurance for long-term care. Republicans charged that the programs financial structure was unsustainable, and Sebelius conceded as much Friday.
We have not identified a way to make CLASS work at this time, she wrote on the Huffington Post's website.
Sebelius said HHS will suspend implementation of the program.
The department recently reassigned the people it had placed in the CLASS office, following the release of emails showing that HHS officials had raised concerns about the programs viability even before it became law.
The Republicans should also shout from the rooftops that those in power are going to ignore the law of the land. They just decide what they will enforce and what they will not enforce. It is tantamount to telling Congress go to Hell, we decide what the law is.
And I want the whole damn thing committed to the trash heap. It needs to be repealed.
That’s it really, the congresscritters are hacking away at it, piece by piece until it has no more of it’s original agenda there to implement. As it is, abortion funding has just been picked away, not there is another program that is getting hacked off.
Conservatives foretold this quite some time ago.
Obamacare and the CLASS Act: Creating a Long-Term Care Entitlement Burden
The CLASS Act: Obamacares Other Public Option
The CLASS Act: Ted Kennedys Haunting Legacy in ObamaCare
Even HHS officials working under Sebilius were saying back in January 2010 that the numbers weren't adding up.
One of the biggest lies regarding health care, and specifically the cost, is that government intervention would somehow “fix” it. Health care starting going downhill about thirty five years ago, precisely the time frame when government insinuated itself into the private medical industry on a scale like never before. It’s 10% actually healing the patient and 90% administrative overhead.
Chill; the Republicans are actually being a lot smarter about this; they are taking it apart piece by piece over a period of time, so that way there is no major backlash agaisnt the Tea Party and conservatives. First funding for abortion under Obamacare has been abolished, now they are dismantling another facet of Obamacare. One bit at a time, in a while all of it will be ended and in time Obama will be thrown out. He has only a little more time left and then he will be gone. Right now the pubbies are doing what they are paid to do (at last) because they know that they will ahve to asnwer for their actions come election time. Better this way than an overt confrontation that will just create a media frenzy and then possible trouble from the lefties in the streets.
0bamacare may be unraveling in slow motion but I believe it will take several years before the offices and sub-offices and administrations and bureaus this thing set in place will be pulled up by the roots and scraped clean. I really do.
Throw me in the brier patch, Republicans. Sorry, oldsters. We took over everything and now you are on the streets, whitey.
We no longer have a constitutional republic. We have -- in effect -- mob rule, mediated by the mass media. The media appoints a figurehead "ruler," and when he/she proves a dud, they appoint another one.
When a bill is passed by the legislative branch,
I don’t understand what gives the executive branch the authority
to pick and choose which parts of it they want to implement.
While any part of Obama sinking is a good thing, there is a larger issue here. That issue is the selection of parts of this “law”, or any “law” for that matter, which they can presume to uphold or ignore. Like it or not, this law passed and should be “executed” by the administration. After all, that is the purpose of the Executive Branch.
The Constitution has been chipped at enough, and every time we allow it to continue, we subsequently weaken it. Force Congress to repeal the damn law, and hold those who refuse to accountable.
“Its a good thing we had to pass this to know what was in it!”
As I’ve said before, “Just like a stool sample.”
“Just a small piece of that monster.”
That’s right. NOT to get too excited until we know the whole thing is defeated.
” a real bad moment when these same folks run the health programs”!!!!!
Understatement of the year.
Great idea, have folks that don’t give a crap about you dealing with your health care any more than they do you getting your mail correctly.
Milwguy hit it ON THE HEAD
“Half of ObamaCare’s supposed deficit reduction comes from the Community Living Assistance Service and Supports (CLASS) Act, a long-term care benefit tacked onto the bill and scored as reducing the deficit by about $70 billion over the next decade. But that’s only because the law’s authors gamed the Congressional Budget Office’s scoring rules”
This was only put in to make the numbers look semi reasonable, under a trillion.
This Piece of crap by the POS 0dumbo is the biggest f’up EVER
MSM better cover this
notice it is a Friday afternoon dump
Not to worry - I've been reviewing the proposed regulations for Obamacare (in the Federal Register) and HHS is MORE than covering this ommission with the very board powers they are claiming in the name of "administrative simplicity". /sarc
Without Obamacare, just what has Obama “accomplished”?
(I know, I know, all those jobs saved and the economy brought back from the brink...)
Be better news if Care was removed from Obamacare’s Dying.
