"...It probably irks Mitt to have to discuss his faith in this way, but the Mormon debate could be of net benefit to his campaign.
...True, there is a small but significant minority who say they would never vote for a Mormon. According to Gallup, its around 22 percent of the population. But opposition to Mormonism doesnt come from conservative Evangelicals or Catholics. On the contrary, Gallups polls show that its a liberal thing. Only 7 percent of Baptists and Catholics wouldnt vote for a Mormon, compared with 32 percent of gays and 49 percent of atheists. Amusingly, the figure is also much, much higher among Mormons, at 22 percent. Thats right, 22 percent of Mormons would never vote for a Mormon. Perhaps they know something we dont."

Aside from lawyers, the worst business dealings I’ve had were with Mormons.
Of course democrats will try to use religion or any other issue to discredit the eventual republican candidate. Are you suggesting that makes it okay for republicans to use religion as lever against each other? Should the conduct of democrats set the lowest acceptable level of conduct?
Because Romney is a flip-flopper and has other issues does that make it acceptable to use religion to sway the opinion of others?
I am not a Romney booster but I do not like the idea of using religion to discredit a candidate or alienate voters just because one is dissatisfied with his or her previous performance or expressed positions.
Trying to scare voters away because of any candidates religion is a cheap shot.
That’s interesting. The worst business dealings I’ve ever had were w/ “devout” Christians. Sad but true.
The more forcefully someone proclaims their faith to me, the more careful I am about watching my wallet.
It there were fair in their business dealings, they wouldn’t have to say anything.
Yes, that's why they want Romney to run. Nobody (here) is voting for Obama.
The Dems & MSM are counting upon the GOP Rinos to put Romney thru the primaries.
If they are successful, blame it on them. (I didn't Rhino Romney in place & did what I could to halt such a political suicide)
In the Fray [slightly adapted lyrics]
How To Save A (GOP) Life
Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As the party goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all campaign night
Had I known how to save a GOP life
Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is ROMNEY wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God, he hears you
And pray to God, he hears you
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all campaign night
Had I known how to save a GOP life
As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
The GOP will do one of two things
They'll admit to everything
Or say the GOP's just not the same
And you begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all campaign night
Had I known how to save a GOP life
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all campaign night
Had I known how to save a GOP life
How to save a GOP life
How to save a GOP life
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all campaign night
Had I known how to save a GOP life
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all campaign night
Had I known how to save a GOP life
How to save a GOP life
How to save a GOP life
“Trying to scare voters away because of any candidates religion is a cheap shot.”
The Church of Satan will find that position comforting as they seek office...
not to mention the Scientologists.
BTTT
(A little late to rumble about that, wouldn't you say?)
I mean, here both Utah & Nevada Mormon voters voted 94% against the non-Mormon candidate in '08 POTUS election...per solid exit poll data.
Even the Feb 08 Salt Lake Trib (I bold faced to ensure you see it) noted: Exit poll data from Tuesday's primary elections showed Utah Republican voters cared more about presidential candidates' PERSONAL QUALITIES than their positions on issues, THE OPPOSITE of the national trend in Super Tuesday voting.[Source: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1967007/posts]
Ah. "Personal qualities." (Mormon talk for "he's a fellow Mormon!") Where were you to harangue Mormon voters in '08?
Of course democrats will try to use religion or any other issue to discredit the eventual republican candidate. Are you suggesting that makes it okay for republicans to use religion as lever against each other? Should the conduct of democrats set the lowest acceptable level of conduct? Because Romney is a flip-flopper and has other issues does that make it acceptable to use religion to sway the opinion of others?
You make it sound, IM, like religion isn't already used by voters as a gauge. Well, it is:
A Freeper posted a Rasmussen poll less than about 3.5 years ago (late 2006) [see Election 2008: 43% Would Never Vote for Mormon Candidate (Rasmussen Poll) ].
According to that excerpt: The Rasmussen Reports survey found that 35% say that a candidate's faith and religious beliefs are very important in their voting decision. Another 27% say faith and religious beliefs are somewhat important. Ninety-two percent (92%) of Evangelical Christian voters consider a candidate's faith and beliefs important. On the partisan front, 78% of Republicans say that a candidate's faith is an important consideration, a view shared by 55% of Democrats. However, there is also a significant divide on this topic within the Democratic Party. Among minority Democrats, 71% consider faith and religious beliefs an important consideration for voting. Just 44% of white Democrats agree.
So
what % of the following groups found that a candidates faith and religious beliefs are an important consideration for voting?
(1) Americans: 62%
(2) Evangelical Christians: 92%
(3) Republicans: 78%
(4) Democrats: 55% [still a majority]
Are you denigrating those who oppose Mormonism, including those who oppose it because it's always on the attack vs. Christians?
(Oh & let me guess: You are denigrating because based upon religious principle you are "against" denigrating others religiously)
(You be sure to go to bat for future Muslim candidates using this same rhetoric...if you have any ounce of consistency within you, that is...Oh, and show us all those '08 posts where you decried the MSM and the right focusing on the religion of Obama & Jeremiah Wright)
Mormons are perpetrators an victims of affinity fraud at a higher rate than most groups. Aside from lawyers, the worst business dealings Ive had were with Mormons.
The headlines bear out SeaHawkfans -- vs. Confab's -- anedotalism:
Affinity fraud occurs across the board.
In recent years, it's been heavily concentrated, religious-wise, in a sect that is only 1.7% of the population: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormons.
If you only have time to click on one article link below...read this one: JOHN L. SMITH: Thieves in the temple: How 'affinity fraud' hurts LDS church members
Be sure to read the comments of FBI special agent Cameron Saxey (who is Lds)...the article mentions how the Utah jurisdictional Securities Fraud Task Force was working on 100+ cases...meaning that $1.4 billion total doesn't tell it all!
BTW...I went to absolutely no major effort or had to do any "days of pouring over" the internet to strain these to the surface. Just about all of them were delivered right into my e-mail lap...meaning I wonder what more I'd find if I really dug deeper!

Then your thinker is misaligned.
Well first pray hard that he's not....I don't have much faith in this election working out for the conservatives no matter who gets it. The corruption in Washington is so thick and the tenticles entrenched so deeply..and growing like a vine throughout the entire political system that it's not hard to see things may not be turned around anytime soon...even with a win for the Rebublicans.
However we do vote and I will not lay down that privledge because I do not like our choices. But I cannot see myself voting for Romney.....
I held my nose for McCain....I'd be throwing up voting for Romney!..and worse somehow trying to justify to myself that voting for a media/democratic fed Rhino carrying the same agenda as Obama is now, is somehow justifiable?? Do I want my signiture on that?
I don't think so....at least with Obama we know what we are fighting...he's made that clear. With Romney we'll never know which way he'll move. High risk voting as I see it.
I am moving with the possibility of a write-in candidate....unless Newt moves up there higher.
Logic ain't yer strong suit; is it!
Hmm...don't we Christians take our cultural cue from a certain "Lord" named Jesus Christ? Who are we to follow when it comes to setting cultural priorities? Jesus and the apostle Paul? or Confab and Sea Parrot?
Here's Jesus:
"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him." (Luke 12:4-5)
So does Jesus say, "fear the bombers?" (No)
Instead, does He say to exercise fear of the One who has authority to cast somebody into hell? (Yes)
So, indeed, our "fear" is on behalf of those who are placing their eternal spiritual lives at risk.
(Besides. Some of us can multi-task re: opposition)
Step away from the word processor and no one will get hurt...
