According to the survey, which was released Monday, 28 percent of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say they support Perry as their party's presidential nominee, with Romney at 21 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at ten percent, with Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who's making his third bid for the White House, former Godfather's Pizza CEO and radio talk show host Herman Cain, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, all at seven percent. The poll indicates that Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota is at four percent, with former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania at three percent and former Utah Gov. and ambassador to China Jon Huntsman at one percent.

Article on CNN states plus/minus 3 percent, but the actuall poll I’m looking at states 4.5% for the GOP section.
Frankly, I find these numbers hard to believe. I need a GOP/Independent breakdown...I believe that is where the gist of these numbers are coming from....should be GOP only.

If Reagan were running today, you’d be attacking him in the same you’re going after Perry.
*****
Precisely. Most Freepers would be calling the great Ronald Reagan “President Ron-nesty”.
And then they’d go out and vote for Mondale, or sit at home and pout rather than vote, because “anything would be better than that tax-raising, illegal-loving, suck-up-to-the Democrats, Ronald Reagan. Time to send the GOP a message!”
Just like all those people who hate George W. Bush and see him as a complete piece of excrement because he spent too much money.
GWB DID in fact spend too much money. Yet that isn’t how the GWB presidency will be defined.
Post 9-11, the Bush presidency will rightly be defined, but anyone reasonable — which seems to exclude many Freepers — thusly: “How many terrorist attacks occurred on U.S. soil between Sept. 12, 2001 and Jan. 20th, 2009.”

Just perused the pdf file....registered voters with both GOP and Independents...not sure why they do this...these numbers are meaningless.
Also, no breakdown published of the Official Release...sorry CNN...gotta go with the Zogby Poll, Ill check their internals too since I’m bored.
My guess is that polls will be out soon that will confirm Cain has a lead nationally.
FYI..Zogby using only GOP and Likely Voters...much more accurate than CNNs Registered Voters of both GOP and Independents.
No way and I’ll tell you why. 1980 was my first election. Perry is NO Reagan. It has absolutely nothing to do with him once being a Dem. I was too and so was Reagan. However he’s got to answer for at least a couple of things. Every time I post these they’re completely ignored so either people don’t want to deal with them or they’re simply willing to accept whatever Perry says as okay. I’d like to know why I’m heartless for not sharing his stance on educating children of illegals who are not yet citizens but are “applying”. And I’d like to know why he broke his promise to the people of TX to NOT run should he be elected. I found a direct quote of his from a debate, he was asked several times in several ways and his answer was always emphatic. His last response was “No, no, no!” People may not think that Palin’s reason for leaving the governorship was good enough and that’s a decision people need to make for themselves. But at least we HAVE an explanation from her. Not so with Perry.

Yeah, and if Fred Thompson loses the 2008 primaries, the next President will be Hillary Clinton or Rudy Giuliani. ::yawn:: .... BillyBoy
No, the next President would have been either "RINO" John McCain or Marxist Barack Hussein Obama.
Fred Thompson, as a U.S. Senator from December, 1994 to January, 2003, and even 2 year Senator Obama had far more credibility with the average voter than a former pizza chain CEO who has NEVER won a single election in his entire life and who wants to INTRODUCE A FEDERAL SALES TAX for the first time in U.S. History.
Cain has skated under the radar so far but the long knives will now come out.
Once a NEW Federal tax is introduced, it NEVER goes away. A true conservative should realize that.
Republican President Cain wants a 9% National Sales Tax in 2013. What is to prevent Democrat President Jones and a Democrat Congress from hiking that National Sales Tax up to 19% in 2017?
Do you know what a 9% National Sales Tax will mean to retired seniors on fixed incomes that currently have too little income to pay ANY Income Tax?
A NINE PERCENT SPENDING POWER REDUCTION.
Will they vote for Cain? Hell, no.
Do you know what a 9% National Sales Tax will mean to those who have busted their butts to earn highly income taxed dollars and saved them to spend during their Golden Years?
A NINE PERCENT SPENDING POWER REDUCTION.
Will they vote for Cain? Hell, no.
Do you know what a National Sales Tax will mean to the almost 50% of all voters who currently pay no Income Tax?
A NINE PERCENT SPENDING POWER REDUCTION.
Will they vote for Cain? Hell, no.
Now that Cain is allegedly a "front runner", that will get noticed next debate.
Bachmann is already toast.
Perry is being toasted.
Cain will be toasted.
Whose left?
Smooth talking liberal Romney.
Remember this post in the Fall of 2012, BillyBoy.
You will be choking on your "yawn".
I am old enough to have voted for Reagan twice (and would again) and to have had Ronald Reagan as my Commander-in-Chief during eight years of military active duty.
By the benchmarks that Perry is being judged by today, Perry looks like Tom Tancredo compared to Reagan.
In case you are too young to remember, Reagan AMNESTIED 3 MILLION illegals.
All Perry has done is opine that children who were brought to the U.S. by their parents and grew up in Texas should not punished for the sins of their fathers. Reagan AMNESTIED the fathers.
Here is an OLD post that will assist the unlearned as to what President Reagan actually did.
Wow, thank you for that! I didn’t know that. I voted for him but it was my first election and wasn’t paying a lot of attention to politics.
Cindie
You are welcome. I think I am going to start planting this link on every thread (unless told by the powers that be NOT to) I read President Reagan 'gave' amnesty... blah blah blah.
From your link:
"The Reagan Amnesty wasnt for ALL Illegal Aliens, there were many requirements that had to be met for Illegals to be eligible. Among them were certain residency requirements, no felony convictions, less than three misdemeanor convictions, medical examinations, etc. .....
TRANSLATION:
If you were a mere punk ( "less than three misdemeanor convictions" ) and not a rapist or a murderer ( "no felony convictions" ) you were eligible for amnesty.
TRANSLATION OF THE TRANSLATTION:
About 95% of illegals were eligible for the Reagan Amnesty.
AND there was the understanding and expectation this was to be a ONE time occurrence. President Reagan's whole presidency had the 'focus' that 'soviet style' communism consumed the very heart and soul of an individual's spirit. AND he attempted to treat US as a 'family' of individuals that would learn history's life lesson. He had more faith in US as a nation than we obviously have deserved. I see nothing in Governor Perry that demonstrates he has a clue what President Reagan set in motion and attempted to TEACH US as a 'free people.
I knew nothing about Governor Perry until a month + ago, and I have yet to see anything about him from his youth to this very day that has any contrast or comparison to President Reagan. I do NOT care if he served in the military, I bought in that 'service' makes a hero with old lord McCain. Millions and millions of Americans have served and the overwhelming majority of them went to unassuming productive lives, never ever using their personal service as a stepping stone to make a political name for themselves.
I am NOT interested in becoming the 'host' for the world's less fortunate because their country of origin practices some form of the evil of communism. President Reagan was against the ideology of 'redistribution of wealth'. AND it is a redistribution of my wealth to be required by 'government' to pay for law breakers health care and education. It sure would be 'nice' for once to hear one of our sell out politicians tell these third world governments to let their peoples be free. Leaders are born not manufactured.
It’s not so much that as Newt and Cain actually had a message that they conveyed to the audience. They sold their platform and ideas. Which is what the audience was looking for.
All attacking does is highlight what problems the one attacked has. It does nothing to sell your ideas and platform.
Hate to break the news, but without a teleprompter, the TOTUS can’t speak worth a d@mn.
There’s a reason the TOTUS takes his teleprompter everywhere (probably even to the bathroom).
Actually, polls have been quoted by Perry supporters on a near weekly basis. So what’s with your “Perry radicals suddenly consider polls important....roll eyes” bit?
Perry needs to convert any debate question into something dealing with his strong points, aka: job growth, balance budgets, deregulation, revival of the 10th Amendment.
I am going to vote for the primary candidate that I believe will do the best in the following categories:
1. job growth
2. economic growth
3. getting the government out of my hair (ie: deregulation)
4. ending the deficit
5. cutting the size and scope of the Federal government (ie: getting rid of government agencies and oversight)
Right now, Perry looks good to me. Cain does too. Newt... maybe.
Romney, Bachmann, Santorum - no chance. As for Romney, no chance at all, period. I will leave the presidential vote empty come November if he’s our candidate.
I don’t see you supporting a candidate. Are you even going to vote in the primary?
Hey, when your Wife insist...whata ya do?
I never said I don’t like the results of the Poll; the results are, to my mind, meaningless because I’m aware of the fact that poll questions can be and are manipulated to produce a desired result. And yes, CNN hates Perry, but they hate the Tea Party crowd even more; Perry is a symptom, the Tea Party is the disease as far as their concerned and their goal is to use the symptom against the Republican party as a whole by assisting the Tea Party in promoting an unelectable candidate. They see Perry as a Ross Perot.
