Texas Governor Rick Perry's once-surging campaign is on thin ice, after flailing in three debates and suffering defeats in two key-state straw polls.
Once limited to the opinion page of the Wall Street Journal or The Weekly Standard, concerns over Perry's electability are now very much in the mainstream.
In a major upset for the Perry campaign, former Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain won the Florida Presidency 5 Straw Poll by a 22-point margin a race Perry heavily contested. Later Saturday, favorite son and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney blew away Perry in the Michigan Straw Poll by a surprising 34-point margin.
Many of his problems have been self-inflicted. Perry's debate performance has been inconsistent, at best and surprisingly Perry decided to engage his opponents, rather than focus his criticism on Obama.
The substance of his answers has also drawn criticism and parody for his incoherent and controversial responses on foreign policy and immigration, respectively.

I think he’ll hang in there a while and see what goes. Unless Palin decides to jump in and split the conservative votes between her and Cain giving Romney the nomination.
Has Perry run out of money yet? That’s what matters.
Just wondering, they always refer to Cain as “former Godfathers Pizza CEO”...When Odumbo was running did they refer to him as “former community organizer”? Just saying here like a CEO for a corporation is somehow not as qualified and somebody else?
>>Unless Palin decides to jump in and split the conservative votes between her and Cain giving Romney the nomination.<<
Prepare thineself for the retribution for sullying her Holy Name.
If Palin gets in, it will become utter havoc and Romney will take the nomination.
“Unless Palin decides to jump in..”
If Palin jumps in, Perry and Cain will jump out.. one way or the other.
We The People are going to nominate a Conservative Romney need not apply.
It’s unlikely that Palin would want to be the spoiler for Romney. Most likely she will endorse Cain who’s rapidly moving up in the polls as we speak.
Right, just like what happened in 2008. The ignorant general electorate has a much different outlook.
Sounds, to me, like the screaming media, democrats and some old foxes in the GOP are worried about Rick Perry. They want an rino to rule.
“Its unlikely that Palin would want to be the spoiler for Romney.”
The candidates who don’t score early victories tend to drop out, so the field will inevitably narrow down to two people.
This is not the time to choose the lesser of two evils.
“Just wondering, they always refer to Cain as former Godfathers Pizza CEO...When Odumbo was running did they refer to him as former community organizer? Just saying here like a CEO for a corporation is somehow not as qualified and somebody else?”
Of course, a subtle put-down at every opportunity. How about “former board chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank” or “former president of the National Restaurant Association”? Doesn’t have nearly the put-down potential, of course.
I don’t see how Palin can get behind anyone after that last debate. I like Cain, but he has said a lot of stupid stuff that isn’t going to cut it if he gets high enough in the polls for media scrutiny. I don’t disagree with his Islamophobia, but the media is going to have a field day with it and, if he gets into the top tier, it isn’t going to last a week.
Obama was a better candidate that will not be true this year. The nation as a whole will not elect anyone with an approval rating in the 30’s. In about 3 weeks Romney and Perry will be in the second tier wondering what hit them.
I like what Cain said on this video

Also see Herman Cains response to Mr. Freeman (who is a golfing buddy of 0bamas). Its about halfway thru the interviewaround the 2;30 mark.
I think Perry was only surging in the perrywinkles mind, then the dummy puke on stage three times, water boy and cheer leader status.

...according to Voteview.com, McCain's voting record in the 109th Congress was the third most conservative among senators. However, his voting record during the 107th Congress, from January 2001 through November 2002, placed him as the 6th most liberal Republican senator, according to the same analysis at voteview.com.
McCain's colleague, and also the 2004 Democratic Presidential nominee, John Kerry of Massachusetts, reportedly asked McCain to be his running mate. McCain accused the “Swift Boat” campaign against Kerry of being “dishonest and dishonorable.
Should McCain win in 2008, he would be the oldest person to assume the Presidency in history at initial ascension to office, being 72 years old and surpassing Ronald Reagan, who was 69 years old.
McCain's oft-cited strengths as a presidential candidate in 2008 include national name recognition, sponsorship of major lobbying and campaign finance reform initiatives, leadership in exposing the Abramhoff scandal, military service, competing in the 2000 presidential campaign (where he won the New Hampshire primary), extensive fund-raising abilities, strong advocacy for President Bush's re-election campaign in 2004, and nominee for Vice President.
McCain's second-quarter 2007 fundraising totals were poor, with intake falling from $13.6 million in the first quarter to $11.2 million in the second, and expenses continuing such that only $2 million cash was on hand. Both McCain supporters and political observers pointed to McCain's support for the immigration, very unpopular among the Republican base electorate, as a primary cause of his fundraising problems.
McCain delivered an April 23 speech on Energy policy at the CSIS at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center in Washington D.C. His speech connected energy independence with national security, climate change, and the environment. McCain proposed increasing ethanol imports, moving from exploration to production of plug-in electric vehicles, and better harnessing nuclear power much as Europe has managed to do.
John McCain was one of the 5 senators who had met with and received contributions from Charles Keating, also known as the Keating Five Scandal. None of the 5 Senators were convicted of any crime but McCain received a rebuke from the Ethics Committee for exercising poor judgment for intervening with the federal regulators on behalf of Keating.
McCain has acknowledged engaging in extramarital affairs upon returning from Vietnam. While he was in Vietnam, his wife Carol had been severely injured in a car accident. Due to the accident, she had become 4 inches shorter, gained weight, and had to use crutches to walk. Soon after his return in 1973, McCain began engaging in extramarital affairs. In 1979, he met and began an affair with 25-year-old Cindy Hensley. A year later, McCain sought a divorce from Carol and a month after that, he married Hensley.
In 1998, McCain was chastised for reportedly making an off-color joke at a Republican fundraiser about President Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, saying “Why is Chelsea so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.” McCain later apologized to President Clinton and Clinton accepted his apology.
During a campaign appearance in south Carolina on April 18 , McCain was asked a question about possible military action against Iran. He responded by singing the lyrics of a 1980 song by, Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran, which parodied the Beach Boys’ hit song Barbara Ann. When later confronted about the matter, McCain stated, “My response is lighten up, and get a life.” Asked whether the joke he made was insensitive, McCain retorted, “Insensitive to what? The Iranians?”
On May 18th, 2007 McCain cursed at a fellow Senator: “During a meeting Thursday on immigration legislation, McCain and Sen. Cornyn (R-Texas) got into a shouting match when Cornyn started voicing concerns about the number of judicial appeals that illegal immigrants could receive, according to multiple sources — both Democrats and Republicans — who heard firsthand accounts of the exchange from lawmakers who were in the room. ‘F- - k you! I know more about this than anyone else in the room.” The comments occurred after Cornyn told McCain, “Wait a second here. I've been sitting in here for all of these negotiations and you just parachute in here on the last day. You're out of line.” Academic commentator Paul Levinson pointed out that this outburst came after McCain voted to increase fines for indecency over the broadcast airwaves, for infractions which include using language which is not as strong as the words McCain used. McCain was a sponsor of the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2005, which raised FCC fines from $32,500 to $325,000.
McCain has been treated for recurrent skin cancer, including melanoma, in 1993, 2000, and 2002.
He has three biological children with his wife Cindy Meghan, John Sidney IV, and James; in addition, he and Cindy adopted a daughter, Bridget, from an orphanage run by Mother Teresa.
McCain supports gun control, supports a guest worker program for illegal immigrants, has a mixed record on environmental issues and affirmative action. Was opposed to President Bush's $350 billion in tax breaks over 11 years, which are also known as the Bush Tax cuts. McCain later switched on the issue by saying he favored the tax cuts. He has a strong pro-life voting record, a strong free trade voting record, wants private social security accounts, is against socialized health care, supports school vouchers, supports the death penalty, supports mandatory sentencing, and supports welfare reform. He would overturn Roe v Wade but keep provision for incest and rape. McCain advocates overthrowing ‘rogue’ governments to keep Americans safe and voted for CAFTA. He supports higher taxes on cigarettes and would negotiate for bulk Medicare drugs.
