I don't understand why the Perrybots don't get this???

That's the deal with "bots" of any variety -- they robotically, unthinkingly support their guy/gal no matter what.

...not put up a long unsupervised fence which will do nothing to actually stop illegal immigration.

Yeah, and we all know with certainty that a fence will do nothing because we've tried it already...

LAME!

You secure the border, nobody gets in. PERIOD. - THIS is what works.

Your answer actually supports Mr. Mojo's point.

not put up a long unsupervised fence which will do nothing to actually stop illegal immigration. He wants real people to guard the border, which is the only thing that works. What have any of the other candidates have done?

This is a pat answer from the open borders crowd and it makes me want to hurl. I'm a secondary level social studies teacher specializing in both history and government. There are tons of examples across history that demonstrate that such obstacles work.

Going way back look at the Great Wall of China. More recently, look at the Berlin Wall. When that was up and running it was instant international news when even one person made it across. Yes there were lethal consequences like mine fields and machine guns, but the basic barrier concept is completely sound and forms the foundation of the very simple root idea. Today, look at the fences that Israel has erected along it's border crossings and sensitive areas. They have cut down on terrorist penetrations by over 90%.

In not advocating this simple and in the long term, less expensive option, I think Perry has shown his true colors. His performance at the debate was deplorable on many many fronts but I didn't appreciate being called "heartless." If he wins the nomination, of course, I'll support him a thousand percent. But I think he has lost my vote in the primaries, unless his tune convincingly shifts on this issue.

You guys are hitting it out of the park. The debate finally exposed America the real Perry! Not some hero on a white horse. But a suave political hack who panders to the likes of La Raza while giving the middle finger to Legally Born American CITIZENS!!! Not some thug who crawled over from Juarez to El Paso!!!

Hell, I disliked Gingrich but out of that debate I liked in order 1)Herman Cain hands down! 2)Newt 3)I can't believe I'm saying this but... Ron Paul!!! 4)Santorum and even 5)Huntsman who sounded more conservative.

Bachmann had my support originally but came out like a deer in headlights and her statement on taxes made her sound like a complete buffoon.

“Yeah, and we all know with certainty that a fence will do nothing because we’ve tried it already...”

So let’s try every expensive useless approach first, before doing something intelligent, such as guard the border with troops.

Why make every employer an immigration agent, instead of securing the border to stop the flow?

He also understands that helping those who got dumped here MANY YEARS AGO by their parents "illegal" entry to get an education means....a working person.

So, either they work underground...OR...Deport them?? You can't send an 18 year old back if he's been here 18 years...it's absurd..

Rick Perry won the Wakulla Republican Club’s straw poll, held on its website on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

The votes were:

Rick Perry – 42.86%
Mitt Romney - 28.57 %
Herman Cain – 19.05%
Jon Huntsman – 9.52%

The remaining candidates – Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Gary Johnson, Ron Paul, and Rick Santorum received no votes.

Gordon McCleary, the Wakulla Republican Club’s President said, “It will be interesting to see how this vote matches up with Presidency 5. Wakulla mirrors the makeup of the Sunshine State so I believe the results are representative of Republicans as a whole.”

People keep beating up on Perry on border security, when in fact, as a governor of a state with a long border with Mexico, he is not only a strong advocate of a secure border, but he has done a lot to secure the border.

They don't CARE about what Perry's done. All they care about is the fact that he may very well win the GOP nomination and he's not Sarah Palin. They will lie, spread rumors and innuendo and repeat half truths endlessly...because he's not Sarah Palin. They don't care how much damage they may be doing to our eventual nominee or how that damage may strengthen obama. All they care about is the object of their obsessive desire...Sarah Palin!

“Rick Perry won the Wakulla Republican Club’s straw poll’

Thanks for posting it. Let’s hope most Republicans and conservatives have some sense and understand that Perry is a conservative, with an excellent record who can shine in comparison with Obama’s record. All the other Republican candidates are just all talk, no record — just like Obama in 2008.

At least these folks aren’t making their decision on how well a person debates...but on their actual record.

There can be no homeland security without border security, and there can be no higher priority than protecting our citizens

You do NOT protect your citizens when you actively make things cheaper for illegals to educate their illegally-present children in your midst. Texans may think it is ONLY Texans that bear the cost of making this compassionate decision, but Federal outlays for education in Pre-K, school breakfasts and lunches, additional funding for education that meets 'federal criteria', and so forth foists this on all the rest of us.

You do NOT protect your citizens when you allow assimilation of illegals into our collective society where they are free to move from state to state, once Texans have quasi-legitimated them.

On top of the blatantly illegal entry into this country, these people and their children bring enormous costs, out-of-the-norm crime, disease, and additional public services expenses in the midst of a recession and near-depression that has not gone away, despite government claims to the contrary.

This country is either SOVEREIGN, or it isn't and thereby relegated to third for fourth-world status. Make your mind up Texas. You trade your sovereignty for the votes of now-citizen Hispanics who have a mother-country connection to Mexico and the least desirable of their society despite the 'assimilation' they should have attained. Instead, we get La Raza and Reconquista.....

Your boy Perry is outta here in my book.

All of the actions in the article are more motion than results.

As a a great executive once said:

“Don’t tell me about all the money you spent and all the dust and smoke you churned up; tell me about the results you achieved.”

Of course as a Governor, what Perry can and cannot do to eliminate illegal entry are limited.

But as we have seen with George Bush’s waste of billions on his virtual fence, nothing is as nonporous as a solid fence of concrete, steel and wire. And that is what Perry has said he would not build as President.

So let’s keep Obama

No, no, sharp thinker.

There quite a few more GOP candidates who can whip Obama.

So let’s keep Obama — he is just so much better than Perry on all issues dear to conservatives, he deserves another four years.

False premise.

Those two are not the only choices by far.

I agree with everything you say Clairity but his attitude toward those of us that want to get this thing under control was somewhat disconcerting. He’s not backing down and that is disturbing to me and I’m a Perry supporter (at this point).
