“The Luntz sessions are pure propaganda, right down to the hand-selected audience with the correct point of view.”
I agree.
I think Cain was the winner tonight, but no one asked him about illegals working in his kitchens.
“More importantly, Perry knows that border security is a federal responsibility and not a state responsibility. You are missing that point entirely!”
You do realize don’t you, deep down in the bowels of your heart, that it’s all over for Perry? He won’t improve in further debates because he can’t. He can’t change his stance on immigration, so he will lose every time he debates on that issue. He can’t debate because he is lousy at it. He’s not quick on his feet. He stumbles, he loses his train of thought. He knows nothing about foreign policy. His answer to the one question about Pakistan in tonite’s debate was unintelligible. The guy is going nowhere. You better pick another candidate to back. Perry is toast.
LOL!
People seem to be under the impression that anyone can just file some papers and become an LPR. That is simply not the case. We have over 4 million people waiting overseas who have completed all the paperwork including background checks and physical exams and are not waiting for their turn to enter, some for years. It is true that 60% of all LPRs are issued in the US thru change of status. That said, illegal aliens have a much more difficult time doing that, especially those who came across the border versus visa overstays.
For those Dream Act students who cannot file for legal status, how can they get a job after they graduate?
We have an estimated 8 million illegal aliens working in the US. They are doing so illegally.
So to answer a question about local policy in local terms indicates an inability to address questions of national policy in national terms? That’s among the most ridiculous, feeble attempts at an argument I’ve ever heard.
“Newt would be ideal, but he cant win.”
I don’t know. I had completely written him off, based on his support for this global warming foolishness. But right now... I’m looking around for anyone who can stop Romney. He wins every one of these debates. He has real ideas on how to make the country better. He can sell conservatism, when he wants to. I don’t care about his personal life, but I do care about him hugging Nancy Pelosi and telling me my carbon footprint is too big.
You mean we want state sovereignty except for when we dont?
Presidents are crucial to the abortion question. They nominate the Scotus justices.
Of course, they have the bully pulpit, they can influence the submission of legislation, etc.
But there is no authority more important in this debate than the Scotus.
(Unless Congress some day decides to actually use its constitutional authority to tell justices what to do.)
At the end of the day Perry MUST either defend himself or get his message out though. He has been awful at that so far.
From watching the debates, all we know about Perry is he is a swindler (Merck), who loves illegals, hates young girls (Gardasil), and wants to kill Granny (Social Security).
The guy actually has a great story to tell about lowered taxes, reduced business regulation, pro 2A, pro life, job creation, etc...
He isn't telling it though, at least not effectively at all. The thing that frightens me the most is that it might be too late now, and we might have Willard vs. the Kenyan next fall.
Ugh. Shoot me now.
“Its too bad he stumbled so badly when he first announced his candidacy. It was like he was trying to kill his chances, wasnt it?”
I don’t think 3 wives and two or more affairs will help Newt any either. Just sayin.....

Pssst
*leans over and whispers*
I think it is his wife, Callista. This wouldn't be the first time his love of that woman has hurt him. ahem
UT is one of the more expensive schools. We have much less expensive colleges and community or junior colleges.
They can get some scholarships or school aide, if they qualify.
In the meantime, the Feds won’t allow Texas to even identify the families who are here, much less deport them, forcing us to educate, feed and give medical care at the schools.
There’s no free college education - the deal is instate tuition if they live here 3 years and graduate from a Texas High School and stay out of trouble with the law. (citizens only need to live here one year, and it doesn’t matter where they went to high school or graduated.)
So, if illegal families are being drawn to Texas, it’s for 3 years prior to college, they graduate and stay out of trouble with the law.
If Romney is the nominee, I am voting 3rd party or staying home also.

Don’t bother, you might as well just vote for Obama. It’s the sitters that gave us Obama because they couldn’t hold their nose and vote for McCain. Stop being silly, get that Marxist Kenyan out of the White house and whoever it takes to do it is fine with me. 4 more years of that POS there and you will be lucky to ever have the right to vote again. GET HIM OUT!
That was my impression from tonight too. It seems like she wants to be mom of the US.
>> He isnt aiming at the base.
>> I still thing he is shaping the debate
I could see that.
The irony is that Perry is voicing the same exact positions as he voiced previously, but folks are acting like this is the first time they’re hearing about it. WTF?
Santorum is taking the most Conservative positions, but he’s not leading in popularity. It’s Romney that’s being given the advantage over Perry. Pathetic!
I feel Cain is doing the best in this debate as he did in the last one. He’s my favorite.
The meeting I referred to was a few years ago.
The answer is to repeal all those Congressional mandates. They are killing local schools who are stuck with the bulk of the cost. They are unfunded mandates. It has to stop.
While I’m happy VA doesn’t allow in-state tuition (or even admission IIRC) to children of illegals, if that’s what the TX legislature voted for and what the folks there want, I really don’t care. If only 4 of the R-controlled TX state legislature voted against it, it’s gotta be pretty popular down there.
The Southwest has been living with the border issue a LOT longer than the rest of the country. It’s only been in the past couple of decades that the federal govt abdicated its duty to enforce the borders. Before that, and before the Congressionally mandated freebies, border crossing was far more manageable.
Hey has FR repealed the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy on being a Newt fan? For years I thought I was the only one who didn’t think he was a RINO turncoat. Not that I’ve been blind to his faults but I swear I was the only person I saw write a positive thing about him around here for the longest time.
Good to be out of the closet, isn’t it?
Hank
